I think it's a no brainer that Syracuse hires Felicia Legett-Jack. She's from here, she just had her jersey retired by the school, and she has done great things with Buffalo. Her first stint in a P5 at Indiana was a disaster, but recruiting will be much easier for her at Syracuse.

If they don't go that route, they should go after:
1. Meghan Duffy
2. Carla Berube
Legett-Jack might work out for you guys. Someone suggested her for RU and I was like - um, no. Not a culture fit.

Part of her issues at Indiana was a bit too much of a religious bent at a public school. It was written on at the time. Its always a "sticky wicket", but apparently she was a bit extreme. Another example was Debbie Patterson (sp?) who was at K State and got in some trouble giving players rosaries or crucifixes or something like that.

The question was what top coach could be lured to TAMU?
Most of them are pretty strongly tied to the school as an alum or being from the area, or what they’ve built so far. I don’t see them leaving — Geno Frese wesM dawn Walz Vic Mulkey Tara Moren bluder graves.

So who does that leave (in terms of existing established coaches) that might consider it?

(And yes they could hire an asst or lower tiered HC too)
A Texas person or someone from the South has to coach in Texas, it's just the way it is. I mean, if Gail couldn't make it in the state of Texas, not many without ties to the area will. That is the last state I would take a job in if I'm from the North(especially the NE).

I understand the logic as it's only natural to consider every possible option. I have a hard time seeing Arico considering it though.

I don't see how a move to TAMU would be the difference in her being able to win championships. Not saying it isn't possible. I just don't see it based on how she's talked about what she's built and wants to accomplish in Ann Arbor.

Looks like Whalen is getting a one year extension.

Really? I watched Minnesota a few times this year and came away with eh-eh feelings. Sara Scalia, one of the Minnesotan's she's convinced to stay, has a nice game. However, her point guard, Jasmine Powell, must transferred to Tennessee.

Maybe UMinn admin, figures they've got so much invested in her that Whelan can use the extra year in her recruiting pitches?

She's gotta keep more of the top Minnesota talent home. Maybe she can borrow that cafeteria pass from Geno to hang out at Hopkins High.;)

First time on the 2022 version of this thread, always one of my faves...perhaps due to the sheer prognositcation of it all and how quickly the results happen (compared to recruiting, for instance).
Some thoughts on people and programs thus far (on top of UVA, which a few of us have spent a lot of lines on...;));

- Megan Duffy, current head coach of Marquette.
I think her grad. student/senior class line-up is topping out after this year and she should explore getting out to the right place. To me, the right place could be UVA, which is the kind of program she's played/coached at under her mentors, MM (ND) and Kim-Barnes Arrico (UM). Reiss should be on that interiew list, but Ms. Williams would be wise to talk to Duffy.

- BTW, if Duffy does head to UVA (or anywhere), Carolyn Kieger should call Marquette ASAP and beg to come back. This move to Happy Valley has been anything but for her. Expected a step forward this year, but cha-cha'd backs a few steps. Not good.

- UVA: Take some time and interview a wide range of candidates with no preconceived ideas. Try Reiss, Shauna Green, Duffy.

- Shauna Green. Knows the midwest from coaching at Dayton (well) and also being at Loras (Iowa) and Northwestern for a year. So, Illinois could work, for sure. Think she's ready for the move up, whether here or UVA. Heck, could even see her at Syracuse...

- Syracuse. Felicia Legett-Jack should be a required interview. However, if that doesn't work out, why not talk to Reiss (who worked there) or Shauna Green?

- Kim Barnes Arrico. She's so Jersey-Long Island, which actually works well for Michigan, but I can't see her at Texas A&M no matter how much money is thrown at her. However, if Rutgers does open up....she might want to "come home" to Jersey and she'd clean up recruiting the Jersey shore. (Remember, Katelynn Flaherty was from there....)

- Texas A&M. Agree with the idea that the person would benefit from having some Texas tie-ins, given how the state is a recruiting gold mine.
But Texas A&M likes to hire big, so maybe they'll flash a lot of cash. Or, maybe they'll copy cat a competitor. How about Vickie Johnson, current coach of the Dallas Wings who was also with the San Antonior Stars? She's from Louisiana Tech and is working with a really young team in the Wings? Supposed to have a firm, calming presence.

An Illinois Insider has thrown out the prospect of GCU's Molly Miller. Seems Josh Whitman's wife, Hope, was a basketball teammate of Miller's at Drury and remains good friends with her.

You do realize that up until the great California migration to Texas that for 30 years most of the transplants came from the NE. That is what fueled the rise of tech jobs in Austin, Dallas, and Houston.

UMass coach may be a contender for some of these jobs — first NCAA berth in eons.

Probably a 12 or 13 seed but woulda been funny if they ended up in Storrs.

Tory Verdi. Done a bang-up job in Amherst, after doing much the same at Eastern Michigan. He spent time as an assistant at Nebraska.

Minutemen are led in scoring by Forward Sam Breen, who played at North Catholic High in western Pa. Interestingly, she initially committed to Dayton but decommitted to attend Penn State. That didn't work out so well, so she headed north. So who did she help beat in the finals? Dayton. Another one of those circles....;)

She's got a strong recruiting class coming in (3 top 60 players) and she's a favorite daughter. She definitely was getting her full 5 years. The extension is surely just for recruiting reasons -- you cant recruit if your contract ends before the kids would hit campus. If things dont reverse course next year, then she could be out.

They have the 10th best recruiting class (according to espn) -- highest in the BiG. Next best in conference is Iowa at #20.

Thx. Figured as much. Hope this latest round because she just had a third player hit the portal. Granted, two of the three weren't playing a lot, and probably figured they weren't going to. Stay tuned.

She needs to recruit some talented size, all of this springs class is 2 guards and a wing.

Whalen does have a great recruiting class coming in and if there's enough improvement I could see her getting another one-year extension. No matter how good freshmen are they're still freshmen(with some notable exceptions) so can't expect an immediate turnaround. Having said that, up till now she hasn't shown anything that would lead me to believe she is capable of turning that program around even with better talent.

OK State and Littell "mutually part ways." Wasn't he COY in the B12 last year? Losing Asberry to transfer and Mack to graduation was tough.

IUPUI just won a ticket to the NCAA's as Horizon League champs, led by Coach Austin Parkinson and star Macee Williams, who reeled off three straight double-doubles.

Parkinson's accomplishments in 12 seasons with the Jaguars are impressive. He's won 224 games since taking over in 2010, most in program history, and has led the Jaguars to a winning record in nine of the last 10 years.

Parkinson is a Purdue alum and former hoopster. I thought he might've been considered for the Purdue WBB HC job, but former Boilermaker All-American Katie Gearlds first got the "coach in waiting" designation, then took over full time upon Sharon Versyp's "retirement."

Parkinson's Jaguars won 24 games this year -- including an away 74-73 win at Iowa in December -- and this squad is largely comprised of grad students and redshirt seniors. In other words, it might be time to "get out while on top."

Given that he's located in Indianapolis, heart of B1G country, Parkinson could be a candidate for the Illinois HC job. On the other hand, maybe he and the family like living in Indy and that's good enough, thank you. ;) Stay tuned.

From the Austin newspaper:

2. Goodbye to Texas A&M. Texas’ Vic Schaefer cleared up one rumor that never quite went away: He’s not going to Texas A&M to replace Gary Blair, his former boss. “No, I’m not going to A&M,” Schaefer told me Tuesday. "The answer is I have a great job at the University of Texas, and I’m invested in the program at the University of Texas. I don’t plan on going anywhere.” Nor should he. The Aggies haven’t reached out to Schaefer, who is clearly a top-10 coach in women’s basketball, and how could they? If they could land him, sure, but they couldn’t take the embarrassment of offering him the job only to get rejected.
