No, it's still just one game.

I totally get the reasoning, but to the people we're trying to convince, it's not... it's one game if it happened once in a while. when you have a consistent trend of getting blown out (not beaten, BLOWN TF OUT) by p4 and even G5 competition, you're saying something fundamental about yourself, greater than that particular game itself. This was happening before NIL and the new stuff of today. This is why the P4 gates remain shut for our athletic department.

for the record, i am not happy about this nor am i trying to argue for the sake of ego/"winning" - but it's true that you are what your record shows, and what final scores show.

In an age where P4 presidents/ADs will use any data against our candidacy, days like this past weekend are giving them exactly what they want, to keep us out of the party. so, it's not one game. it's another nail in the coffin. I wouldn't say we're dead yet, thank heavens for basketball/Hurley. But we're putting more nails in it with these end scores.

This season is clearly a measuring stick for this staff IMO. Coach Mora has his players and has brought in a bunch of new guys to fill holes. He also has his guy at OC who is supposed to take the talent and start producing. Didn't expect it to turn completely around in game one, but expected better than what we got. We'll probably know where we are headed by the third game. But at no time did the offense look like it had an actual idea of what it wanted to do or how to accomplish it. That ridiculous rb toss back to the QB sealed the deal for me. This OC lacks game management experience. I had serious reservations about a guy learning on the job. Seems that's what we have here.

It's amazing how many people want to burn everything down to the ground based upon one game in which we were overmatched. Totally agree, why not be a little patient and see how the season unfolds. There will be plenty of time to get the pitchforks and torches out if things go poorly.

Same thing happened to hoops in the AAC. They didn’t recruit while there. They got into big east, they recruited.

UConn is going to do well in its non power conference portion of schedule. The chasm between these power teams and the g5 are huge. The gap is accelerating.

The team isn’t going g to be able to compete until they are on a level playing. Field.

It really looked like UConn was playing a team from higher division.

Least experienced BIG 10 team is going a bit far... They were ACC for 60 years before even switching leagues.

Im talking about LEAST experienced playing roster. Not as a program. The roster is 95th according to Phil Steele in experienced players.

Uh yeah. The coaches ARE potentially the problem. Since Edsall round 1.

Not exactly coaches that built anything after or were ascending with experience. Lets go through them.

-Pasqualoni was about 10 years too late. Well into his 60's, he was out of coaching essentially for 7 years after running the "Cuse into the ground. The Burton family hated the hiring so much they pulled all there $$. Looks like they were correct in that assessment of PP. Hes bounced around not landing in one place more than a year or so ever since and is now in the UFL.

-Bob Diaco was a decent hire and was making waves in college football world but had not been a DC more than 3 years and had VERY little experience and this was his first HC job. He has flamed out and bounced around everywhere and is now no longer tasked as a DC anymore anywhere. LB coach which is a major step down and only because he has a relationship with Brian Kelly at LSU-saw him on TV yesterday getting his @ss chewed out.

- Randy Round 2 was much like PP. A coach that had flamed out and made his $$ and was essentially no longer fully invested. I appreciate what Randy round 1 did for the football program and I will always say his job was one of the best I've seen in college from where he took them to where he ended up. I wish he had never left, but he did. But you could see Randy round 2 didn't have the fire that Randy round 1 had almost from the get go. He had made his $$ and was now 60 and over. Seemed like a desperate hire to spark something that was long gone with a coach thinking more about retiring than rebuilding a program again.

-Which brings us to present day Mora. Same kind of thing, older coach, flamed out elsewhere (at a bigger school) and now trying his hand at rebuilding a program at over age 60s+ which is when most are winding down/retiring. Again not saying he cant be the answer but so far its not looking so hot. I hope I'm wrong.

So essentially we seem to be hiring guys who may be past there prime and moving toward retirement age or guys who are so green they have never been an HC before. Where's the Dan Hurley type guys for the football program? thankfully i am not at the coke-line stage of uconn football fandom yet LOL

I think Bob chesney was that guy, maybe still can be that guy... He beat us with Holy cross in 2021, and I liked him ever since. agreed not just Chesney, who I agree, I like and fits this demographic -but there's quite a few guys out there just like this even at the FCS level that can be damn good D1 coaches. Id rather take my shot with those types in that demographic than someone with one foot out of the game. Yes if hes good we may consistently lose that type of guy to bigger schools....but there should be a list of guys FBS and FCS level that we are honed in on at all times. Not sure why UConn has not done this of the past 15 years.

Merrimack coach is in his first year. Air Force had been #1 or#2 in rushing for the last 5 years according to a graphic in their game. They really gave Air Force fits. Will be interesting to see what they do versus UConn. UConns biggest problem has been in not finding a top level QB. Chesney had Sluka at Holy Cross and they were good for 4 years and he got a bigger job. Mora is all in on Evers and it will determine how long he is at UConn. We still had a talented roster when Bobby Redpants took over. It has been a trainwreck since as Edsall wanted to play freshman when he took over and it was a disaster. I am really tired of being embarrassed on the field. We have the 3rd easiest schedule in FBS. Time to win some ballgames.

I like Jim Mora, thought he was a good hire for a school/history/program like UConn. But one thing is starting to seem clear to me, the players don't seem to get better. I know everyone likes to point to the recruiting and obviously at UConn we are not getting the cream of the crop. But at some point coaches should be getting players better-right? This was clear to me last year when after a good first year (6-7-good in UConn terms, lol) we had one of the 15 most experienced teams coming back last year in the entire NCAA and we go 3-9? That to me speaks to coaching. The longer the players are in your system the worse they seem to get despite playing time and experience which does and should matter in NCAA football. Now year 3 against one of the least experienced B10 teams we lose 50-7 and don't even compete?

I mean, I didn't expect a UConn win on the road against a B10 team but to not compete and show that we are going backwards each year is obviously concerning. Starting to think Mora doesn't have a plan and cant develop players.

Now as time has gone by, we are one of 2 independents and I suspect things are getting tougher as coach of UConn.

but I cannot argue or take issue with any part of your post. If this year continues like last year, then whatever system is in place is not serving us very well.

I think people get on UConn fans for being this over demanding bunch but I don't really see it that way. We just want to team that competes.

Let’s get real. The coaching is at this point by any measure related to outcome and production, poor. I get bringing in a bunch of new guys doesn’t help, but so are a lot of other squads. There is nothing uniquely different at UConn than any other place, and many respects better than most. Excellent facilities, great school, very good market, nice campus, flagship, better funded than mid-tiers. There is no good excuse. None.

The uniquely different aspect is UConn’s amazing ability to hire old names and not upcoming talent.
If BB took same approach, we’d have Lappas, Lavin, and maybe Crean as ex coaches.
I want to like Mora. Came in with right attitude, said the right things, and brought some credibility.
I think this year will say a lot about progress.
Road opener against BIG opponent is tall order. But we seem to say that about all our opponents. At some point, when teams keep having banner days against you, maybe it’s not that they are so good.
Not going to rush judgment after one game, but it’s sooooooo hard not to feel like we’ve seen this before.
Get a solid win against Merrimack, get the kids feeling like progress is being made, and get some positive vibes flowing.
