UConn played UCF last March in the NCAA tourney. Nothing happened, UConn fans didn’t complain. There were even posts complimentary of Coach Abe

Nan, having only watched UCF games vs UConn, I accept your assessment that UCF did nothing out of the ordinary in most games. But as you indicate, the UCF games vs UConn were different. Those games often turned into high fouling battles, not unlike the OBE games with Rutgers.

It’s a time honored strategy of an inferior team to try to pull off the upset by bringing the better team down to their level. It never worked for UCF vs UConn. As for Coach Abe’s new gig at UGA, we’ll see how it goes.

Rutgers games with CViv always rough. Add in Georgetown, Syracuse now also SC, DePaul both have centers throwing elbows.

I was referring to the fact that Coach Abe and almost her entire team refused to shake hands with Seton Hall after losing to them in a Thanksgiving tournament.

Good win for NC State. Fell in a hole early but really solved the puzzle with solid defense and rebounding.

At the buzzer, the blonde hair guard from UGA was still trying to steal the ball from Rivers and they were locked in a stare down face to face... maybe some jawing going on. Coach Wes started yelling at Rivers to get back over to the State sidelines. Earlier Brown-Turner objected after Warren fouled her and got their arms entangled. The Band from UGA was yelling to give BT a Tech. That was pretty much the only objectionable things I saw. Granted I mainly just saw the second half.

Being physical is not playing dirty. Long time Big East fans know what a rough and tumble league it was with Rutgers, Louisville, ND, and, yes, UConn. It was nearly a literal rock fight every night. Coach Abe would have fit right in

The rule states it is illegal to put your hand in the face of another player shooter or not. A technical should be called. Page 83 of the officiating case book.

Lol, no it's not. That's referring to smacking someone in the face or purposefully antagonizing an opponent. Putting your hands in a shooters line of vision is not illegal. They'd call 50 technical fouls a game if that was illegal. Give me a break. Context matters here and you ain't seeing it. I've been a ref and read that entire stupid rulebook end to end.

Do you want me to timestamp every single time someone closes out with a hand in the shooters sight line?

I just feel like you two posters are dancing around without getting to the essence. I can see your correct point that you cannot intentionally block someone's vision. I'm not sure I've ever seen anyone do it, though.

Conversely, I see players stick their hands up in front of the players they are guarding all of the time, generally on a shot to hopefully prevent a shot by obstructing the ball's path. Again, while their hand is technically in some cases in the player's face, they are obviously not trying (specifically) to block the player's sight.

So I think you both have points.

And coaches displaying a lack of sportsmanship. Is this a trend or an aberration? And if it is a trend, what might be the underlying cause - heightened competition, higher expectations for WCBB programs, more money/more competition for coaching jobs equaling more stress? Something else?

Good questions. Been wondering the same myself. At the moment, no clue. I'm hoping this is an aberration.

Freshman Moriah Jefferson put her hand in front of Skylar Diggins while Diggins was dribbling and was called for a foul. I remember Doris Burke laughing at the play, “no, Moriah Jefferson, that’s not allowed!”.

Doesn’t it seem everyone is cranky these days? There have been some verbal fistfights on the Boneyard that seem out of character.
