I don't ask for much, but PLEASE let this happen.
UConn played UCF last March in the NCAA tourney. Nothing happened, UConn fans didn’t complain. There were even posts complimentary of Coach Abe
Rutgers games with CViv always rough. Add in Georgetown, Syracuse now also SC, DePaul both have centers throwing elbows.Nan, having only watched UCF games vs UConn, I accept your assessment that UCF did nothing out of the ordinary in most games. But as you indicate, the UCF games vs UConn were different. Those games often turned into high fouling battles, not unlike the OBE games with Rutgers.
It’s a time honored strategy of an inferior team to try to pull off the upset by bringing the better team down to their level. It never worked for UCF vs UConn. As for Coach Abe’s new gig at UGA, we’ll see how it goes.
Was there some roughness for sure.A reminder to UConn fans that a Coach Abe-led UCF played UConn in Gampel 7 months ago without any problems
And NC State still looking for its first win ever over Georgia. This is the 10th meeting between the two programs; Georgia has won the previous 9, including last year's OT thriller. For those interested, Coach Abe's team is playing tonight at 8PM on the SEC Network against #8 NC State.
I am planning to watch this one. I'll be keeping some additional stat categories for:And NC State still looking for its first win ever over Georgia. This is the 10th meeting between the two programs; Georgia has won the previous 9, including last year's OT thriller.
Coach Moore elbow-bumped the Iowa staff last week...so he will probably do the same thing tonight.I am planning to watch this one. I'll be keeping some additional stat categories for:
cheap shots
unnecessary roughness
kicks to players on floor
handshake refusals
I was referring to the fact that Coach Abe and almost her entire team refused to shake hands with Seton Hall after losing to them in a Thanksgiving tournament.Coach Moore elbow-bumped the Iowa staff last week...so he will probably do the same thing tonight.

I watched the whole game and that was basically it. Side note: the light seems to have come on for Rivers over these past two games. I'm happy for her!At the buzzer, the blonde hair guard from UGA was still trying to steal the ball from Rivers and they were locked in a stare down face to face... maybe some jawing going on. Coach Wes started yelling at Rivers to get back over to the State sidelines. Earlier Brown-Turner objected after Warren fouled her and got their arms entangled. The Band from UGA was yelling to give BT a Tech. That was pretty much the only objectionable things I saw. Granted I mainly just saw the second half.
The rule states it is illegal to put your hand in the face of another player shooter or not. A technical should be called. Page 83 of the officiating case book. It's basketball 101 to put your hand in a shooters face. That's not dirty.

I've been a ref and it's in the case book. Just because 99% of the time it's incidental and ref's don't call it doesn't mean it's not illegal. smacking someone isn't a technical, it's a personal. Maybe your association rules didn't have it or perhaps you reffed more than 6 years ago before the rule was changed. Here I'll quote it.Lol, no it's not. That's referring to smacking someone in the face or purposefully antagonizing an opponent. Putting your hands in a shooters line of vision is not illegal. They'd call 50 technical fouls a game if that was illegal. Give me a break. Context matters here and you ain't seeing it. I've been a ref and read that entire stupid rulebook end to end.
Do you want me to timestamp every single time someone closes out with a hand in the shooters sight line?
I just feel like you two posters are dancing around without getting to the essence. I can see your correct point that you cannot intentionally block someone's vision. I'm not sure I've ever seen anyone do it, though.I've been a ref and it's in the case book. Face guarding occurs when a defensive player blocks or disrupts the vision of the offensive player, whether that player has possession of the ball or not. At any level of basketball, the rule book generally calls for a face guarding violation to be called in each of the following situations:
- If a defender places their hand in front of the eyes of an opposing player in the act of shooting a jump shot rather than defending the ball
- If a defender is guarding an opposing player that does not have possession or control of the ball, blocking the offensive player’s vision to prevent him from receiving a pass from their teammate is a violation
Good questions. Been wondering the same myself. At the moment, no clue. I'm hoping this is an aberration. Not specific to coach Abe, but, early in this season we seem to have more fights/multiple expulsions from games than I can remember over a full season of WCBB. And coaches displaying a lack of sportsmanship. Is this a trend or an aberration? And if it is a trend, what might be the underlying cause - heightened competition, higher expectations for WCBB programs, more money/more competition for coaching jobs equaling more stress? Something else?
Freshman Moriah Jefferson put her hand in front of Skylar Diggins while Diggins was dribbling and was called for a foul. I remember Doris Burke laughing at the play, “no, Moriah Jefferson, that’s not allowed!”.I just feel like you two posters are dancing around without getting to the essence. Doesn’t it seem everyone is cranky these days? There have been some verbal fistfights on the Boneyard that seem out of character. Not specific to coach Abe, but, early in this season we seem to have more fights/multiple expulsions from games than I can remember over a full season of WCBB.
