I seems to me that Kia drives expecting contact and when she doesn't get it, she misses the layup. Anyone else notice that?

Yes, absolutely- I have noticed that for some time. Hate to say it, but I think she lacks the agility/athleticism to be a consistent force on driving the lane and converting her layups. Otherwise I really like her game.

She's experimenting with that move. A little obsessed with it right now, but will learn how to use it, get better at it, and eventually it will just be part of her toolbox. Then there will be "Version A" for international competition and "Version B" for NCAA competition. Still growing.

What did Butler have, about 14 minutes?

Can we now dispense with Natalie's too slow, she's the last one up the court, she'll only get clean up, should be mop up, minutes. She's big, strong, an excellent passer, a soft touch on her jumper and she's aggressive. Oh, by the way, maybe not having to wear that splint had something to do with her playing better. Way to Natalie. We're going to need you down the road!

Sometimes we forget what a spectacle UConn Women's Basketball is. As those of us lucky enough to live in the area and attend home games know, there is a real nice video presentation played on the scoreboard before the introduction of UConn players. It show clips from the 10 championships and video of each of the players on this year's team. It's dramatic, with fast cuts, a deep voiceover and captivating music. It is nicely done. During the video tonight, we looked over at the UCF bench and the coaches appeared to be mesmerized by it. They just stared and enjoyed. It was pretty cool and humorous. The spectacle that is UConn Women's basketball transcends the line at center court.

Rhonda Rompoli, SMU's coach, said their first trip to Gampel the first time they played UConn was similar to that. She said her players spent part of the time just looking around at all the banners, basically star struck.

Anyone notice Lou played really good defense tonight. Don't think even Geno could find something to complain about. That was as impressive as her passing/assists

I'm liking that "hi-lo" thing Lou and Stewie got working. With Lou on the perimeter, teams have got to respect her ability to shoot 3's, which opens up Stewie on the block 1 on 1.
If they can perfect that, it will give opponents one more thing to worry about, and try to defend. It was very successful tonight.

Spectacle, yes of course. Reminds me of the Globetrotters; I never got tired of watching them.

All true. But I was at the Temple game and my favorite moment was actually at the end. UConn was up by maybe 50 with maybe 90 seconds to play. There was a time out. The Temple team was standing around, looking at the crowd and taking it all in. Geno had his players around him, drawing up plays and pointing out mistakes. Other teams are mesmerized; UConn is all business. (Until after it's over, when Huskies get goofy with their home crowd.)

This has been a season long problem, that I wrongly predicted would be corrected by now. The problem is getting worse because those bunnies that Kia is missing is contributing to a relatively low FG% of 41%. Even more disturbing Kia FG in conference play has dipped to 35%. I'm really surprised someone on the staff has not yanked Kia's chain about this yet.

Yes she did play good defense battled for a few tough contested rebounds also. But she is a freshmen and this is Geno we are talking about he'll find something. My guess would be her shooting 3 of 11.

I think we need her now and I like the way she is playing. Her mid-range game and passing have been supreme! She also has many subtle things mastered that are probably among the hardest defensive things to teach a big post player. Establish position early, don't foul, make yourself tall & make them shoot over you.

I'm out here in So. Calif. (I was born here, this is home) BUT................if I lived in the Hartford area, I would be a season ticket holder. I would not miss a game. I would travel with them as much as I could. Unfortunately, the logistics make that wish almost impossible.

Just another stellar offensive game by Nurse. Just keeps laying brick after brick. I don't get it. Misses from 3, misses layups, gets out of control dribbling too far under the hoop and then throws up some garbage and tries to take out a few defenders, BUT continues to start and play minute after minute.
