Don’t overthink think this. Sanogo WANTED very much to be the best player he could be and worked harder than anyone to become that player. Reed? Without knowing him, I don’t think he has the motor needed.

I disagree with alot of this. He works hard, just makes really bad fouls, which is on him. He's a beast on the boards. In his defense we do not run any post plays for him like we did Sanogo, and rarely try to find him when he posts up. Kalk is different as Sanogo could get his shot over Kalk while Reed is a more power player who will body you to get room for a shot. That doesn't work with Kalk or 7 foot shot blockers.

If we just let him post up and got him the ball most teams need to double, then he has to make the right pass. Not sure Hurley trusts him to do so.

Tarris has had 3 or more fouls in each of the last 9 games despite averaging just over 18 minutes a game in that span. For reference, that is more fouls than Samson in less minutes, despite Samson racking up 8 fouls in his last 19 minutes of basketball.

As a big guy, if you want post touches, a lot of the time you have to earn them. Firstly, by proving you can stay on the floor.

Tarris has 2 years of some of the worst high major coaching in the country and 75% of a season of Dan Hurley coaching coming off the bench

Sanogo had 3 years of Dan Hurley coaching, almost exclusively as a starter and 2/3 of it as the featured part of the offense

Tarris will never be as good as Sanogo was because Sanogo had a 2 year head start. But I’d expect Tarris Reed to be HUGE for us next year

I don’t think it’s the engine per se, more a lack of basketball IQ which isn’t ideal with the sets we run. Heck Danny all but said it in that behind the scenes look before the season saying Tarris is in La La Land half the time even during the team softball game.
Yes I have said on here that hes our best player if he can figure some things out, but I’ve noticed he’s been making even more mistakes lately. It’s definitely BBIQ. But I give him and Aidan time. I think they will be better and more sure of themselves next year. They both can be key pieces next year, this year it will be unpredictable with the both of them

Thanks Yard, thread was to be titled "The Five", don't know where it went.

The consensus from reading all your reponses is that Reed needs time, of which he has another 1.25 years.

The bottom line is that we need him now(or very soon). Hope he can engage and level up!

On to "The Hall".

Sanigo had the best footwork around. That was coaching and work but it was also physical ability to do it.

Offseason(doesn't help now), Tarris can drilled to death. Footwork drills with and without the ball, with and without a defender. Work until he falls down. He'll be the best he can be.

Give him time. You can't expect a guy to transfer in and pick up the nuances of a new offense especially when there have been several charges in the rotation, some due to injury.

I think next year will be when he blossoms.

I think @temery got a cease-and-desist letter from Fox News and changed the thread title

Who remembers our complaints during Sanogo's soph year?

-Never passes
-Stop fading away
-Assess before you dribble
-Arms never straight up
- WHY WONT HE DUNK THE BALL!?!?

Also, let's remember how much the 2023 team grew up between the end of January and beginning of April.

Expecting Reed to be Sanogo is just silly....but expecting Reed to be in top form in early February is also silly.
He was let down at his old school. We all see the potential(and the few great games), but it's going to take some time for the consistency to mold.
Reed came here because he wanted Hurley to push him hard. If Hurley can't get it out of him, no coach will...

What I can’t figure is why the Chicago bulls won’t give Sanogo a shot. They have nine guards on their roster after the Lavine trade AND they stink. Maybe, hopefully, after the all star game. I don’t care what any perceived limitations people have about Adama I just want to see him get a chance. I can’t actually see him because the Bulls and Blackhawks are not on tv locally.

Those are all reasonable and thoughtful points.

We are getting past the reasonable thoughtful part of the season.

Expecting Liam to score 38 points and carry us to a win in Omaha is just silly. Right??
