With the preface that I am
constantly wrong, on the basis of watching his highlight reels and a little game tape, I was extremely impressed with -- and had extremely high hopes for -- Spencer. Spencer's stats at Rutgers also backed up the eye test. Not going to say I expected him to be as amazing as he turned out to be, but you surround a great player with other great players and that's what can happen.
6/6/23:
I want him more than I wanted Timberlake.
6/9/23:
As terrific as Hawkins was, I think Spencer and our freshmen can probably fill his shoes.
8/7/23:
Spencer is going to be amazing. He was great on Rutgets when teams could focus on him. Imagine how good he'll be on a team where everybody can pass and score.
8/7/23:
Again with the caveat that it was against a 5th-going-on-4th French division team, Spencer's body control and BBIQ were very impressive. There was a semi-fast break where Cam, rather than lunging himself toward the basket and into a moving a defender, which may have drawn a foul but just as likely would have resulted in a miss or turnover, instead took a dribble left out of the paint, spun around and took an easy 4-footer. Smart and effective.
11/6/23:
Although I haven't actually watched Spencer play like I have the returnees, I have pretty high hopes for him. He may not be as good as Newton as a creator but I view him as a better all-around player. Shooting, defense, ball protection.
(Might have been a little strong there.)
11/21/23:
I'm often wrong in talent evaluation, but to me the difference between his highlight reel from Towson and Cam's from Rutgers were like night & day. I had no idea why KU and UConn were duking it out for Timberlake and was extremely happy when we got Cam instead.
He's a better passer than I imagined. Clingan and him would have some FUN Here’s a player comparison that maybe some might see idk. He reminds me a little bit of a shorter, stockier Nadav Henefeld. The athleticism level isn’t high, but he anticipates very well defensively and gets in passing...

I love Jackson and he's also one of my favorites but it feels like the board has overrated him some after the championship. He is a leader, a great connector and a do all the little things player. His energy and athletic plays were remarkable at times but the talk has become a bit over the...

I think this is a funny thing to say. None of our starting 5 is a freak athlete by any means, about average by high-major standards. Our team last year was more athletic. Many teams had more pure athleticism over the past 3 decades. The hallmark of the 23-24 team is an exceptionally high skill...

Think it’s been asked but not sure if it has in a poll. I asked myself the question and think it can probably be anyone. I think Castle is least likely because he’s not a huge 3pt threat and it’s already been mentioned that he’s going to be a facilitator. I’d say my gut is saying it’s a toss up...

Texas would’ve been a whole other issue with Shendrick but then again we would’ve as well with Castle. Lots to be happy about but watching that Longhorn team and thinking eventually Disu and Shendrick may be healthy they will be heard from in March April. It’s always tough to project what...
