2026 Recruiting: Caden Pierce (Transfer) potential interest

I know we sit on the talent and hidden "potential" here, waiting for it, but I'm seeing it less and less. I think we're holding on. He'll be a solid bench piece in his Uconn career here, is my call.
Oh, I agree... That was my original point when someone posted that bringing in Pierce wouldn't make sense since we'll have Stew at the 4. I don't think we'll ever see the potential and talent totally click. But, he's a very useful player off the bench and has been much less of a defensive liability this year to my eye.

I'll give Painter a lot more credit getting "lucky" with Edey (recruited/developed) than I would Hurley backing into Spencer. Can anyone say Nick Timberlake? Give Painter his due. They are both excellent coaches. I'm sure Hurley would tell you the same.

Like it or not this is a fair reply. It takes luck no matter but to find luck you have to be a real good coach in the world of college hoops these days.

Matt Painter is a top 6-7 coach no matter where you want to throw him in there. These aren’t huge recruiting names when they get to Purdue either, he does real good things with players. He’s had as good or better success than Scheyer with a lot less rankings walking through his doors.

That people should be more charitable to Painter on this board. He’s a great coach, he’s winning consistently at a non traditional basketball power, saying he’s great isn’t a threat to Hurleys superiority.

It’s also a broader point about how we judge success. Championships are the most important metric by which we judge success, but is it the only metric we should use? Do we agree that Painter is a great coach, despite the rocky tournament results?
He absolutely a great coach.

My point got lost. My original objection was comparing his trajectory at Purdue to Hurleys at UConn was a bad comparison. I was never passing judgement on his ability as a coach.

I just objected to the fact that he was somehow unlucky. He’s coached incredible talents. That other coaches wish they could’ve had. He’s had great teams underachieve. I don’t see that as unlucky. He just hasnt gotten it done yet.

Doesn’t mean he isn’t great.

Stew made a nice drive to the basket against Illinois got challenged as he got to the rim, and rather than ram it through and break the guys hand wrist or forearm he opts for a dipsy doodle reverse layup which he missed. He should be an absolute beast and doesn’t seem to see himself that way.. Needs to go to Kevin Freeman Donny Marshall Lyman DePriest school.
Completely agree. He can make a 3, but he's not consistent and he's become too 3 point oriented. He needs to put that NBA body to the test and start driving, creating contact and finishing strong. Enough with the dipsydoo crap.

OV is the first step. Illinois dude with strong Mid-Western roots. Purdue will be a strong competitor for his services .Looks like he's a great Program fit. Maybe he has a dinner at Cap Grille in his future?

Getting Mullins away from Purdue and IU seems like a miracle in hindsight. He’s gonna torture those fans all year and hopefully March in particular

Likely 2026 Mr Basketball Indiana Luke Ertel to Purdue.

Uconn the right fit for Mullins if he is indeed one and done. Hurley has a great record getting his players to the next level.

It doesn’t feel like that in him. I see the moments/spurts with Jaylin (like everybody else). Those are salivating - he does things that very few guys can do. But…at some point, when moments stay as moments and never become consistent…after 2+ years…that feels like who he is. I am NOT remotely qualified to assess his game. But he seems to lack a nasty (basketball) attitude to accompany his physical gifts. I’d love to be wrong. And I’m thrilled he’s one of our guys. But, the jury is coming back into the courtroom….

Hate to say it, what you see is what you get. However if the 3 Junior Class Musketeers can continue to make small incremental improvements in their game, big contribution!!

He's a little bit smaller than AK, a little bit more athletic. Ends up about the same where his best position is 4, and he can guard some 3s but not the quicker/quick twitch ones.
Is he long like AK? I keep hearing AK has a 7'6" wingspan but that really doesn't sound (or look) right.

AK has a 6'11 wingspan. Dauster keeps saying 7' foot something wingspan, but he's wrong lol.

I don't think Pierce has a very long wingspan, but he's bouncier than AK.

Yea Dauster has said he has a 7'3" wingspan multiple times on Fof68. AK participated in the 2024 combine, all his measurements are verifiable if he took 5 secs to look it up.

I’ve also heard Rob say Solo is 6 foot. I don’t think he’s 6’4” as listed but Ball is taller than what RD claims.

Been saying this for 2yrs after meeting him …he’s 6’2
In real life. But with sneakers he's 6'3.5" and rounded up to 6'4". Just like Newton is 6'3.25" in real life but 6'4.75" in sneakers and he was listed at 6'5".

Yeah, i think you could pretty much say every basketball player is listed 1.5-2 inches shorter than their listed height. I think it's all relative.

Yeah, Dauster I think is thinking of samson johnson - easily confusable of course

Except DC. He was listed at 7’2 and he measures 7’ 1.75 barefoot
