BYU Post Game Thread

Doesn’t fit his narrative. UConn is only good if BYU rolled over.

People always forget that there are 2 teams out there that affect the outcome of a game. BYU and Kevin Young played and coached a smart gutsy second half. It’s not a knock on UConn that BYU doesn’t suck lmao.

No it’s not lame. Who cares that we were up 13 when that starter went down? We only won by 2 points as they came back at the end. So when someone says we’re pretty good, how is that when we blow a big lead and they’re missing 2 starters? We are a decent team, not a great team at this point.
I think its more like UConn thought the game was over, let up on defense and BYU made some shots and gained confidence and then they couldn’t miss. Meanwhile UConn was sloppy on offensive end. Uconn looked like the better team by far to me and I don’t think the score reflects what happened. It was almost another Seton Hall scenario.

Malachi Smith gives me anxiety.
Yeah, he looks like he is playing too fast and trying to do too much. He needs to slow down. He clearly has talent but hasnt really shown it much. I'm glad Demary is really progressing well at least. We don’t want to be like last year’s team without a starting PG.

How do you find negatives about a gutty win against a top ten team? This place sucks so hard sometimes. We didn’t blow a 20 pt lead, a really good team made a run to make it close like we would have in the same situation.
I think its because we went from being euphoric we a re crushing BYU, to OMG we might blow this, and its natural for people emotionally invested to feel that way. Had we been behind and had some crazy comeback people’s mind set would have been different.

Hurley and Dybansta spoke for about 1 minutes after the game. Karaban and Dybansta did as well. Maybe the BYU coach is just a dick or he had to piss really bad.
That’s about a minute more than Coach Young had with Dan Hurley!

The announcer said it looked like it was his tailbone. He did appear a bit hobbled the rest of the way, but credit to Tarris for gutting it out. You could see there was no way he was leaving that game. Hopefully he'll be fine for Wednesday night.
Pain management. He’s going in Wednesday!!!! Let’s get it!!

He isn’t good. He has a broken shot and pounds the ball into the ground. Defensively he gets bullied when not 30 ft from the basket.

We are stupid deep at pt guard though. Millander is an austrie clone and the euro dude is really no joke either. I actually felt smith was not great but did his part. Big upgrade from last year.

I have seen him play for Dayton and I would hardly say he isn't good. He just has to learn to play smarter with the ball and pick and choose when he should shoot the ball or take it to the rack. I think he will be a fine back-up PG once the year goes on and definitely better than what we had last year.

Would love to be proved wrong obviously. Not impressive to start.

Yeah having Karaban playing 39 minutes is not going to work all season. We need to have Stewart play better on offense to back him up.
He won't have to once Mullins is in the fold. Obviously Jaylin needs to start doing more. I thought Ross did a lot of good things.

He IS good. Just didn't have his best game tonight. Other guys stepped up which, of course, is a strength of this team.

Yeah but Stwart can get minutes at the PF position compared to Ross who is just too small to play that position.

For some people to say they are not happy with a win against the number 7 team in the country is down right stupid. You can say you're disappointed with the performance down the stretch but to say you're not happy that we won what kind of fan are you?
It's like these people have never heard the saying "Basketball is a game of runs," they must be new to the sport or something. If you can't enjoy this win, maybe you need to pick up a new hobby.

I agree. There is a combination of things that made the game closer than it was
AJD starting playing better around the 13 minute mark. BYU started pressing which caused a few UConn turnovers. Saunders made some tough shots. He is hard to defend since he shots well with either hand. Smith missed a few shots. Baker hit some shots.

I don’t blame any Hurley forced slowdown on the final eight minutes or so. Two top 10 teams going at it.
