"old guy" agrees with RST. I know my opinion holds no water on this site, but I will post this thought anyway. Would it not be a huge boost to the program if 30,000 showed up for the Temple game. I would go myself if able, but I love the school, and the wonderful "thrill of victories" the women and men's basketball program has brought to the state. Baseball and hockey and other programs as well. So, I believe a large crowd and a victory over Temple would help turn the corner for the FB program. So, if you have tickets I urge you to go. If you have been considering going to a game make it this one. Be well, and old guy hopes you enjoy the game...
 
Second rout live for me at the Rent this year but this ine was way more impressive. Maybe the Duke game is the best indicator of where this team really is, and that would not be a bad thing. Fagnano is clearly a more decisive and better passer than Evers and not a terrible runner, iI hope Evers is ok and maybe he just needs more snaps, not really having played in over 2 years, but Fagnano has to be the guy now. I wasn’t one of those who wanted no part of him this year, but he has been a clear abswer so far beyond what I thought.

But it was the defense that blew me away. They looked great. When was tge last time a UConn D stopped a team from gaining a yard on 3 straight downs and was so generally dominant. Hope that is a sign of more to come. .

As great as it’s going now, this is going to be a long haul process barring a soft landing in the??? We are looking at a timetable that probably extends post Mora and maybe Hurley. DB has a Rolodex of names as does Mora for openings as they happen. Make a plan and work the plan, tweak the plan and keep moving. Simplistic yes, but the only constant is change.

I knew our D was different this year against Duke, when we turned the ball over a midfield and forced them to punt with a 3 and out. 3 and outs all game, giving our offense a chance to win the game.

It’s been nearly a decade since I’ve seen a UConn defense do that….


The Maryland game - while a blow out - and Duke - a loss - you could tell something was different down in the trenches where game are won and lost.

This year is going to be different.

I think attendance is nearing a tipping point. At some point the state will wake up and say, "Hey, UConn is good again!! Let's go!! That was fun back in the oughts!!!"

This team doesn’t NEED a QB who can do things with his legs. We actually have great running backs and great linemen. We also have some really good WRs, Bell is probably the best we have ever had.

We don’t need a running QB with those weapons and it’s more dangerous for the other team to have to account for a passing game (Nick Evers cannot pass well. Not up for debate) than a slight mobile QB who gets concussed every other game.

Everyone's opinion on this site holds water. Some water is more polluted than others but it's all good. And I agree, although Temple isn't very good, it would be a huge win anyway. Make it 4!!!

Temple is a team that always played us tough but we still beat them during the 2000s, then they bullied us most of the time in the AAC years when we were horrible, so beating them next week would be another solid win for us. This season's schedule is ready made for a bowl berth. Taking care of business at home for all these home games is not only important but also makes a statement that UConn Football is on its way back.
 
All Blue Uniforms. I really like this combination the best.
The difference over the past three home wins. They had the white military helmets vs FAU and white pants vs Merrimack.
I say go all blue again against Temple.

The running game is better with a qb that can run…it puts more stress on the defense. But…I agree…if Evers fumbles or gets injured every other play…he isn’t helping the team.

As I have said before….I am surprised he has spent 2 years on P4 teams..with P4 facilities and P4 coaching…and he plays and looks like a true freshman. I do think this stretch of so so teams at home will help him get the reps he needs to get better…but he needs to stay on the field.

Oddly enough…NE starting and JF finishing probably is giving the opposing DC fits.

I don't think it is cut and dry.

So if many think Fagnano is better due to vertical game I think it is an argument that has merit.

I like the ceiling of Evers as a maturing passer and runner is higher. But, no denying the bigger arm is a weapon.

I will say, Fagnano hasn't played in a stress situation. Ignore merrimack. He has had garbage time in games and Saturday was first game where he had to perform. He was impressive.

We’ll see. They out up 500 yards with evers. There impressive.

I just think fagnano is erratic. Not inaccurate, but runs hot and cold. But if there is a question about evers health, that leads me to fagnano.

P4 coaching isn't better than any other coaching.
 
It's different sports and different circumstances but Mora's run is shaping up like Hurley's.

Hurley's first two years, he missed the NCAA tournament. Had a losing record in year 1.

Then once UCONN joined the Big East, he made the tournament two years in a row but lost in the first round both times. Whispers started. I understand the football program's dynamics are vastly different but on a relative basis I think there are some parallels.

You know the rest. Sometimes you have to experiment before you find the right formula, and in this case it just might have been a little extra NIL funding, which I have no problem with that because literally every other FBS and FCS institution is doing the same damn thing.

I did not find Herman's comments offensive in the least. In fact, he did a lot of what Mora did after the '23 season when he gave the infamous 'Donors need to step up before we can be competitive' speech. Herman is no dummy; the guy was HC at UT for awhile and presumably knows the difference between a program that has robust alumni and institutional support and one that does not. It's a tough task moving that rock up the hill as we all know and sometimes you have to use dynamite to break the boulder into manageable pieces.....or something.

You would have to figure that if the Boneyard does have royalty, some version of a Bastard Prince would be kicking around somewhere.

Kind of a SANOGO/Clingan , Clingan/Johnson rotation. Not a huge FB guy, is rotating QB’s a taboo thing to do?

It is in the NFL. It's pretty common in college. Not rotating per se but giving a series here and there to a second QB. Florida won a National Championship doing it.

Seems like with a healthy Evers might be good to try it. The difference with Fagnano is noticeable. Different game. Would keep D guessing and adjusting, especially as Evers develops his passing game

Inflated against merrimack. Against Maryland and Buffalo are his other extended times.

Here is where we are.

19-35 (54%), 360 yards and 4 TDs with one pick.

Not bad. They can win with that. But it is not as good as bottom line numbers.

Evers had missed a game and left every game early except loss to duke. So durability an issue.

I think things like this sort themselves out. How many times has UConn had zero options at qb? Seems they got 2. Enjoy.
