I said this in the chat during the game: Skyler Bell could very well be the best offensive player UConn has had since Donald Brown. This breakaway ability into space & afterburner speed is stuff that usually happens against us when we play P4-level teams. What a weapon to have on offense.

Most of us are from CT. We aren't exactly a grateful population lol.

Yeah, but what is that number? 1.5 million?

Now, what is the difference between our combined conference contracts and the Big12 or ACC? 25 million?
Can't use the TV money until revenue sharing passes. NIL is externally funded and coaches are absolutely forced to at least consider keeping their transfers happy. Players will spread the word if promises are broken.

I know. Read further in the thread. You're late...

He did get a couple series against Merrimack, what stood out in the brief appearance:
  • He was far more accurate in his passing than any other QB that day
  • He was very poised in the pocket
  • He needs to add weight. It was striking how thin he looked compared to everyone else on the field
The kid is the goods.
Did we watch the same game?

He threw 4 passes, completed 2, one for 9 yards, one for 1 yard (when we needed 4). He had a 4th and 3 at Merrimack's 27 and whiffed.

Four wins of next seven would NOT be great. Would I have taken 7-5 coming off the Maryland loss? Absolutely. But from where we are today, I will be disappointed if we don’t get to at least 8-4, and I do not think that is the ceiling.
Ahhhhh, that's the Bizlaw that we know and love.

I know Benedict is loved on this board. I get it - basketball program is unreal. He is not a football AD which to me is crazy since he came over from a huge football school.
that should tell you something, shouldn't it.

It's nice to see 2 blowouts in a row and UConn be on the favorable side of both of them. If UConn had beaten Duke, a game I thought they should have won, they would be 4-1 and they would get more positive press.

This team's identity is clearly being a run team as their OLine is very good at run blocking and their 3 RBs are excellent at breaking tackles, especially arm tackles, and juking defenders. Hopefully Evers does not have a concussion and he is okay. With Fagnano, the opposing D cannot sell out as much to stop the running game as he is a more proficient passer. What does this mean? His passing might be a better multiplying factor for the running game than Evers' running ability. Plus Fagnano maximizes the skillset of Skyler Bell who is an absolute stud. UConn had more passing yards than rushing yards on offense.

As for the defense they are doing the fundamentals much better. That is they are knowing their assignment and learning the defensive scheme much better which means they are playing with more confidence and their tackling is soooo much better now.

I don't know if UConn can beat Maryland, but if they played now, I don't think the score would be 50-7 in Maryland's favor. Maryland is arguably the toughest opponent UConn will play all year. Playing them in the first game was not ideal as UConn had many new players and a new scheme including a QB who hadn't played a single game of D1 football. Playing Maryland in the first game was the equivalent of Mario in Super Mario Bros facing Bowser in Level 1.

Transitive wins over notre dame, Texas a&m and Florida!
And a Nostical win over Duke!

Id be curious to see what the run/pass split is when Evers is in and When JF is in. Because it feels like we have a lot more confidence throwing the ball with JF
I think part of that is also that 1.) Joe doesn't run like Nick, so a different play calling strategy is needed and 2.) Our starting quarterback is out indefinitely at the moment until we hear what happened, so lets not put our #2 in a spot to be injured so that we're now relying on third string.

I'm pretty neutral between Joey Meatballs and NE and it was encouraging to see that JF could come in and the offense kept trucking. But it seems like the consensus on the board has been that while NE and JF were competing for the starting role, that there is a gap between those two and McDonald and Welliver. So, need to keep Fagnano healthy. Kinda looked like that on the options where Fagnano pulled the ball and kept it. He ran a bit and then looked for a spot to get on the ground and move on to the next play.

Absolutely.

The 3-3-5 looks a heck of a lot different under Brock than it did under Crockett, right? Great stuff...
In fairness to Crocker, UConn did not have the personnel to run a 3-3-5 as the roster was still full of Diaco recruits. Brock had the luxury of the portal plus multiple years of roster rebuilding by Mora. Still, I like Brock and his energy.

Good to see! While yesterday was no problem, as the students didn't show, Dale might not have been able to get in the student section the previous 2 games when the student section was full. At both of those games, my son & nephew were denied entry into the student section as the tennis ball ushers were actually doing their job & checking tickets to ensure that only students were sitting in that area.

Fagnano got two starts. He looked much better than in relief. The fact that he was a little erratic on injury duty isn’t necessarily surprising. Adrenaline and all.

If Evers is out next week and Joe is first team all week I expect him to be less erratic.
After he settled in he was much more effective.

Honestly what makes you think Benedict understands this?
Not to be disrespectful, but DB wasn't born yesterday. He got the right guys for MBB and FB, why would he not understand the pay for performance thing? FB revenues are still down, but you gotta think that is in the process of change as they win more games. Yesterday was perfect for football. Coulda been a bit brighter, but it was very comfortable. We were disappointed to see the Rent only a third full. But that should change.
