http://espn.go.com/college-sports/s...nd-terrapins-regents-vote-big-ten-move-monday

"If the two schools join the Big Ten, it would reopen what many thought was a stable time in the conference realignment process. The Big Ten joins the SEC as a legitimate 14-team superconference, while the ACC drops to 13 football members and likely will pursue another all-sports member to get back to 14. Connecticut would emerge as the most likely candidate to fill Maryland's spot in the ACC."

The ACC teams already had a big problem when they dropped to an 8 game schedule. There was and still is a lot of scrambling to fill it. I expect a very quick announcement.

Also, the response to Maryland leaving the ACC has for all intents and purposes been quite muted once the head scratching stopped. It is ironic that the two most financially challenged schools are going to the richest conference.

If Maryland does indeed leave the ACC then the conference needs to go get a FOOTBALL school as a replacement. #notlookingatyouuconn

The ACC will still grab UConn and FSU won't care as they will be leaving for the Big-12

There are no football schools to grab. I don't understand why some people can't see that. Maybe they still think they could steal a school from the B12. Weird.

What about a scenario where FSU and Louisville go 2 B12, would ACC feel compelled to go back to 14 or stay @ 12?

Some ugly scenarios are possible.

I posted this scenario in another thread. It's a very likely possibility and one that the ACC can live with since they know that any BE school would always be available if they needed them and they can sit tight and share the money better with only 12 teams. The question would be what the TV contract says, if anything, regarding number of schools, etc....

He's not saying UMd is a football school. He's saying if they leave the ACC should target a"football" school.

Yes, that's why we need ND to step up quickly and recommend UC in a sense, the more time that passes the more risk.

You're delusional if you think Notre Dame cares if UConn lives or dies.

They have no interest.

Beyond what Fishy said, if ND can claim that they threw us a life raft they would make us pay them through the nose for the favor for about two decades.

Umm, to regain league stability in a sense.

Of course not genius, but they don't want to see it picked apart piece by piece.

No clue, I was just interpreting someone's tweet. If I had to guess, FSU would vote for Louisville over UConn.

You know what's funny is that if this was two years ago, it would be UConn looking like a football + and Louisville as a football -.

How quickly things can change.

Speculation from these mental giants is that ND will have to make a choice, join for fb and prevent MD from leaving, with UConn as an acceptable #14.

Assuming MD is gone, UConn's future will be determined by what ESPN tells Swofford UConn will mean for the TV contract. My guess is that ESPN will tell them to take us, blowing up the Big EAst once and for all and making the ACC hoops rights, which they already own, much, much more valuable.

Umm, no all knowing. If ND even hints at fulltime status why would ACC add a team? Or if ND states they want to quickly replace MD to maintain stability and the #s.

I mean, what is your prediction? All you ever do is criticize and never offer jack. Easy way to go through life!

There is a lot wrong in very few words.

Recent history would suggest that Notre Dame has no problem watching a conference be dismantled in front of them - and that was when they were "down". Throughout realignment, the Big East was always "them" to Notre Dame - I assure you that the ACC is held in similar regard.

The strength of the ACC is not Notre Dame's concern - they'll still be good enough for their 'all sports' and the football conference just has to exist.

ND is so far above the fray that it's annoying - we're all fish in a bowl to them.

Dead on Fishy. Also, ND may prefer to see the carcass they are feasting on picked apart by other vultures. This makes it far more difficult for that conference to stand up to them.

UConn to the ACC would preserve their women's hoop rivalry.
