He looks ridiculously young, especially when you compare him to a guy like Castle, who looked like a grown up man for his age both physically and facially. I see a two year kid, which to me further emphasizes coming to a program that will develop.

My phone sends me the daily (most days more than one) hype pieces about Scheyer and "his crew" and their recruiting targets.
There's lots of NIL money at some of these schools and growing angst at the others so this is a pretty formidable group against which we're competing.

While all of that was true, the counterpoint is that UK’s first choice for their coaching opening was Hurley. For a reason.
Yeah…and would be an NBA coach for one of the most prestigious franchises in the league today had he not turned it down.
Who LeBron wanted to coach him and develop his son. Which speaks volumes about what the best player in the past 25 years thinks about Hurley’s ability to develop NBA talent.
As we all know recruiting is wacky with lots of angles. None of us know what Mullins is thinking. Maybe he wants to get away from home. Maybe he doesn't like playing with Moreno. Maybe he doesn't like Mark Pope. As with most recruitments it's really hard to figure out what a kid is thinking. I agree it's a long shot just with how many schools are involved but none of us know what Mullins is thinking.
Maybe UK lands Jasper Johnson first and that turns him off. Hurley recruits with intention, and it has to feel good when you’re a recruit and you are being targeted for fit, not just playing the field.
Coach him? Nobody coaches LeBron. Yes, he probably wanted Dan Hurley to develop his son.
Be his head coach? I think that’s splitting hairs. The point here is that he wanted Hurley to be on the bench and trusted him with his son. Everything else is noise. LeBron, the Lakers, and KU all wanted Hurley. Recruits should too if they’re wise.

The article is wrong, he attempted over 7s per game, but made 3.5 a game at 47%.Here’s a nice write up on Mullins’ summer play. He made an impressive 6+ 3’s per game but what’s nice to read about is Finkelstein’s scouting report on the defensive end.
He knocked down 47% of his attempts from three in 3SSB play, even on high volume, making 6+ threes per game.
The other area of the game in which Mullins is a true standout is on the defensive end. He's quick laterally, very active with his hands (1.4 steals per game), and competitive with a scrappy mentality. He's also not afraid to stick his nose into traffic and pull-out some rebounds, on both ends of the floor (3.6 rebounds per game).
The bottom line is that when you have an elite shooter, capable of getting hot at any point, who is also a standout defender, with positional size, solid athleticism, and a competitive mentality….you have an elite national prospect.

Good points. I think in general our fanbase currently is ridiculous in thinking these recruits either come to Uconn or they must be nil hungry
I certainly don’t think they all are - but there are a few things, when they play out, where you’re pretty damn sure NIL is the driver.
Will we ever know why they decide what they decide?
