moreno recruiting for kentucky seems significant but pretty weird, since mullins isn't from kentucky and when they were talking about playing together it was in indiana. not sure how much of that is home state appeal or friendship ball.

On his UConn visit:
“I loved the visit,” he said. “Coach (Danny) Hurley, he made a statement with me. He said I’ll be there for 10 months if I go there. Player development is definitely a big part and he told me how he’d use me. The campus is beautiful, the coaching staff is great, the players are great, the facilities are great. I had a great time.”

On timing:
“I’m definitely doing it before the season,” Mullins said of his decision. “I don’t have a date yet. It’s between my last visit (Kentucky, the weekend of Oct. 26) and Nov. 26. In that time range. Trying to do it then.”

On upcoming visits:
Mullins has upcoming official visits planned to Michigan (weekend of Sept. 7), North Carolina (Sept. 14), Indiana (Sept. 21), Duke (Oct. 5), Tennessee (Oct. 19) and Kentucky (Oct. 26). He will not take visits to Alabama, Kansas and Purdue — the other three teams had listed in his top-10.
Some heavy hitters, but glad for no Purdue (in state), Kansas, or Alabama. We got the first impression, so hopefully we stick in his mind.

That Kentucky/Indiana land mass is hoops country. I read somewhere more driveway hoops per capita and largest HS gymnasiums. They love their hoops. Indiana may be home state but UK is a close neighbor and a big brand, and if your good buddy is heading that way I’m sure it’s appealing. It has to be really hard for any kid to right now to pick Woodson. He’s on his last legs and had to go complete portal this year.

Interesting he knocked off some name brands off the visit list. Most have IU and UK as leaders given geography, but with the great visit, who knows. If he’s a “serious” kid, he comes this way.

the other angle to this is hurley adapting his messaging to the NIL landscape, offering the prospect of accelerated development to reach NBA to counterbalance more money from football schools.

Based on Braylon's comments about the OV. Sounds like Danny swung for the fences and hit it out of the park for the visit .IIRC- Mom/Dad/AAU Coach were on it as well so I would hope they share a similar opinion. Step#1
Also have to think that him landing a kid like McNeeley, who has similar game/profile, helps.

Mullins burst on the scene this spring after battling injury during his high school season. His great shot mechanics and preparation make him a quick shooter. He has a speedy release because of his footwork, and his range is deep and concise. Mullins is a movement shooter who understands how important it is to first get open. He's a tough-minded worker ready to make either the next shot or the big shot.

He looks ridiculously young, especially when you compare him to a guy like Castle, who looked like a grown up man for his age both physically and facially. I see a two year kid, which to me further emphasizes coming to a program that will develop.

You've said this a couple times now. I agree he looks young, but I don't see his body as any less developed than plenty of likely 5*s. He's definitely bigger than Thomas

mark pope is pretty good at offense but meh at everything else. UConn will also do 5 out offense quite a bit this year and prob do it better.

Lots of Brigham Young guys making a splash in the next level so I agree! Lol

Would love a Zionn or Matrim wink on this kid soon, love his game!

I thought a hire like Pope would’ve had to prove himself for a year or 2 before getting top flight guys. Did UK bump their Nil or is it still the UK brand getting the kids?

Particularly over the two time defending champs whose coach was UK’s…ahem…first choice?

Pope may not have made any noise in the tourney but his teams at BYU generally over performed per the personnel. He also plays a very friendly spread offense that allows all kids to shoot threes.

They’ll have a wide open roster after this year and can practically guarantee playing time.

It’s still UK, they have the fan base and NIL. He comes off a passionate high energy guy. It doesn’t surprise me he is making some early traction.
