obviously it really depends on what kind of players you get. but in this NIL era it's difficult to get more than 1, 2 is prob the cap.
I don’t think I’d want more than 2 who firmly want to be one and dones in a single class. 1-2 seems like the right number.

He just scheduled a Duke visit on top of the 7 other visits he has lined up.

It's during their midnight madness thing. 2 of our most high profile recruits last cycle chose Duke over us when they visited during that night (Flagg and Ngongba). Hopefully he gets tired of visits before then.
Ngongba was probably influenced more by Flagg than midnight madness. I hope Mullins makes it to the Duke visit so that he can go and hold that creepy ass baby and figure out Duke just isn’t it.

Ngongba really confuses me. I have no idea why he went to Duke. He has a better frosh playing in front of him, albeit one and done likely. His cousin chose UConn. UConn has a recent track record of developing bigs, Scheyer does not. If anything they botched Filipowski. This just feels like one of those choices where a kid is emotionally wed to the star brand, because makes little sense otherwise. Chasing Flagg, who will be around for only a year, makes no sense at all.

Maybe he's really good friends with Harris?

Ngongba is going to be good but 2 years of Reed is better imo.

Depending on how this recruiting cycle goes...and how Ngongba's year at Duke goes, I could see him being a transfer target for us in the spring.

Will Singare develop to be a more than suitable replacement for Samson? I’m thinking yes. Will Ngongba be that much better than Singare? I wonder. Will Tarris blowup and be draftable? I’ll betcha he will.

All good questions. Singare definitely auditioning this year to be a key rotation piece next year.

I’m optimistic about Reed…but I’d be shocked if he developed into a draftable player after this year. Adama wasn’t even drafted after his Junior year…and best case scenario I see for Reed is sophomore year Adama (would be amazing if he was that good).

Pretty hard to know. He came in raw and didn't get a chance last year (for good reason). He could be on the SJ plan, or the Richie Springs plan. Hoping for the latter, of course.

reed should try to dunk more and just generally finish stronger at the rim. he likes to do these floaters and scoops after he gets past the defender with agility. their main focus with him seems to be in this direction. just raising his at-rim fg% to a level that his physical talents dictate should be a big step up in value.

agreed. it sounds like staff is targeting one of ament/bundalo/reibe/cenac this cycle. along with stew/abraham/reed/singare that would give us a 5 man frontcourt rotation. but if stew goes pro we'll be in the market for a transfer big as well.

Are you going off his UM tape? Hopefully we can throw that out the window as my sense is the staff is going to try and correct all that. One thing Hurley has said with him as being “too talented” is that he tries to do too many things, needs to simplify. I’m sure stuff like that is part of the process.

the tape and his numbers. he shot 59% at the rim which is decent but not elite amongst bigs. with his level of athleticism he can manage more.

On his UConn visit:
“I loved the visit,” he said. “Coach (Danny) Hurley, he made a statement with me. He said I’ll be there for 10 months if I go there. Player development is definitely a big part and he told me how he’d use me. The campus is beautiful, the coaching staff is great, the players are great, the facilities are great. I had a great time.”

On timing:
“I’m definitely doing it before the season,” Mullins said of his decision. “I don’t have a date yet. It’s between my last visit (Kentucky, the weekend of Oct. 26) and Nov. 26. In that time range. Trying to do it then.”

On upcoming visits:
Mullins has upcoming official visits planned to Michigan (weekend of Sept. 7), North Carolina (Sept. 14), Indiana (Sept. 21), Duke (Oct. 5), Tennessee (Oct. 19) and Kentucky (Oct. 26). He will not take visits to Alabama, Kansas and Purdue — the other three teams had listed in his top-10.

The one and done talk with Mullins surprises me. He may very well be that, but certainly doesn’t seem like a guarantee.

Is it possible that Duke simply offered him more money?
