Bouknight gets the boot

The refs warned him a number of times in the first half for going on the court of talking trash to Xavier players. They wanted him moved from the courtside seats and asked the woman from UConn to do that at one point in the first half.

Him getting the boot was coming. It wasn’t surprising and is a bad look for him.

Life has rules. If the ref told him to leave the building, and he didn't, the ref had it in his power to walk off the court and give UConn a forfeit loss. That would have been hilarious, right?
I could be wrong but I imagine prior to taking that drastic a measure, the ref would have notified Hurley that if they don't get Bouknight out of the building he would stop the game and UConn would forfeit.

I was at the game. It appeared in the first half that Bouknight got right up in an X players ear as he was waiting to inbound the ball. I was surprised it didn't happen at that point.

I'm gonna chalk it up to a 20 year old guy doing something mindless but it was not a good look.

Do we know Ref said to leave the building? I think he just wanted him out of courtside seat.

I honestly doubt the Ref cared he went to student section....it's all overblown.
I certainly don't. And if the ref just said to leave courtside, then his going to the student section was fine, but hardly the act of defiant heroism that some posters here see.

I imagine I'm not the only one here who has done soMe immature things at 21... and I'm not a millionaire who's had star treatment most of his life.

.-.
Unless you're the hornets GM, interesting promise to make. I've evaluated employees for two decades. If at a firm party an employee kept ignoring demands from a bartender until he was told to leave, I guaranty you the people who make decisions would remember it.
If Bouk goes out and averages 20 ppg for Charlotte the gm will not be thinking about a VERY minor incident that happened at a college game in the middle of February. They just won’t. Marcus Smart swung on a fan in college, you think Boston cared about that when they extended his contract? Hell no. Why? Because he was producing. Bouk kept getting too close to the court, so they ref said he couldn’t sit courtside. He then asked security and school staff could he go into the student section. And they obliged. You’re over thinking this.

The ref did not tell him to leave the building.
How do you know that?
I promise the hornets gm doesn’t care
Does the GM care 2 weeks after an incident with his head coach and 2 years after a suspension at UConn? Perhaps, especially if it looks like a pattern.

Bouk's not doing himself any favors with these incidents. You have to realize that.

Good God. I didn't say anything like that. I said it would be remembered and will effect people's judgment on Bouk's judgment. Did I say his career was thus over? Did I say that if he played like Michael Jordan his contract wouldn't be renewed?

But if he plays like Kevin Ollie, will things like this keep him from an 11 year NBA career? Damn right. GM's want the 14th and 15th players on the roster to be patient adults.

Because it would.m have been against NCAA rules for UConn not to comply and the ref could’ve called it a forfeit. The school would not risk a forfeit. Unless we think they’re idiots.

And my point is I don’t think anyone cares the way some of you do. The refs were chuckling when he went into the student section.

.-.
The ref wouldn't have had a job by 3pm if he did that. Get a grip man. I think Bouk deserved to be booted but this is a stretch

I fully agree with you. But does a fan, ex-player or not, have the right to take any risk of interfering with the players getting to play a game? No, of course not.

You do realize that refs don't relocate spectators, don't you ? Clearly, he was being thrown out. Take a step back and breathe and I'm sure you will realize that.

he was being removed from the sideline. The ref didn’t care if he left the building or not. I literally watched them chuckle when he went into the students section. They didn’t care where he went. If they did do you honestly believe the school would be showing him interact with the students on the Jumbotron? Are we that naive?

Do you want to be "right" or do you want to get along for your own benefit? If the senior partner tells the associate to pick him up on the way to the airport for a meeting, the junior can say "not my job man." But is it going to help him in the long run to have been right?

This was not a bus driver telling Rosa Parks to sit at the back. Bouk had no right wandering onto the court. He invited a power trip from the ref, and would have helped himself by just letting it go. Ask yourself this --- do you really think the Hornets GM won't think the incident was at all relevant to evaluating Bouk as an employee?
Rosa Parks? Geezus man, calm down and maybe take a break.

It was a fun entertaining moment at a sporting event. A minor transgression made into a positive via trip to student section, the student interactions and gesture is the part that will live on. Otherwise I’ve got some secret works of wisdom, Let it Be.

..and for the pattern of behavior people... I'lf nothing else, it makes you feel bad for the kid.. he could use better support

When I first saw that Bouk was at the game I thought it was great that he came back to Storrs during the NBA break.

The kid has behavioral issues beyond the realization of 99.9% of the people on the BY. That's as far as I go up that lane.
This is a bad look for Bouk - to have the refs come over to Dan Hurley and ask him to motion to Bouknight to leave the arena and then the kid runs up and tries to hide in the student section. Nothing wrong with Bouk. He didn't yell back at the ref or throw a tantrum. Put his hands up said ok ok, and then left. Not true at all, he wouldn't leave that's why the ref asked Dan Hurley to motion for him to leave. Some day you may find out why Bouk does some of the things he thinks to be normal.
If you watched him during the 1st half he was standing on the court and giving the refs crap and talking trash. The refs twice, that I saw, asked him to move back and sit.
If Dan Hurley didn't give him an earful after the game then he is wrong. Of course AD David Benedict is sitting in the proximity of Bouknight and says/does nothing to him.

Two student athletes at the game and two different behaviors - CV was/is always a class act

Epic move by a former student, lifetime Husky. I would've done the same. Wow

Maybe you don't know that ;)

UConn got an important win and held on to the lead when it looked like things were going completely wrong. That is a HUGE statement for the program this season. Hopefully the good mojo will continue on Tuesday - would love to see them beat Nova
The Karen’s on here are unbelievable.

Warren Buffet has a saying “lose money for the firm and I’ll be understanding, lose reputation for the firm and I’ll be ruthless” paraphrasing but its pretty close - reputation matters for a brand or a person.

Reputation and perceptions matter that’s just the way it is

The ref did not tell him to leave the building.
Naive much. When an official throws a fan out of the game that means you leave the arena and you are usually escorted out of the arena by security.

Bouk was 1000% in the wrong here. He was warned numerous times but felt he was above everyone, including the game, and kept pretty much walking onto the court. I have sat court side over 40 times at UConn games and numerous times at nba games thanks to professional athlete connections and only once in my entire life was I or did I ever see a person court side warned to either remain in their seat for safety of the players and refs. After that warning it didn’t happen again. Bouk was warned at a minimum 3 times that’s complete disregard, disrespect and immaturity to a level that is unacceptable of someone of his age, status and public image. He then created another spectacle by disregarding being thrown out and going into the student section

It’s time to grow up and stop acting privileged. He should learn this lesson sooner rather than later so he doesn’t cost himself hundreds of millions. I’m sure Hurley and UConn are or have spoken with him

Kemba, Bazz, AJ, Hasheem, Dyson, Wiggins, Chuck, and plethora of other ex players who I’ve attended games with would have never acted in such a way. CV who was there didn’t act in that manner either. This is a Bouknight problem

All of that is fine. I won’t tell you how you should think. But then why wasn’t he escorted out? Because the ref didn’t throw him out of the arena. It’s really simple. He didn’t leave because he wasn’t told he had to. He actually got permission to go in the student section from security and the school

To many fans no, not too big a deal. For Bouknight, he should be 100% embarrassed. He plays for an NBA team down there on tobacco road where UCONN doesn't have the best of reputations. If he isn't embarrassed for getting tossed from a UCONN home game then he has a lot of maturing to do and he is in danger of really screwing up his rep. It reflects poorly on UCONN and on him. He chose to leave (too) early and an NBA player should be above these antics.

Thread is so weird between the weirdo opinions and that fact that some poster is a pansy and has blocked me from viewing their content, and everyone is responding to him.

This is zapruder film crazy from some of you.

Who cares whether he left the building or joined the student section. Methinks you’re missing the point here about Bouk’s behavior today.

Someone with his stature as a player at UConn should not have been swearing at opposing players. The fact he is 21 could give him a break but he needs to just root for his team there and it could have been a much better return for him. Quite frankly, any fan swearing at opposing players from those seats should and would have been tossed out of the building so Bouk being allowed to stay was a decent compromise but it never should have come to that. It was great to see Christain Vital. That kid backed down from no one on the court and improved every year.
