Actually there is some wisdom in your statement.. Context/Game Situation.. Is it really that important to gain possession with your #1 player going to the ground for a loose ball in that situation.. Wouldn't DH have given him a "pass" for not doing that??

Easy to be an arm- chair QB.. His value to the team is greater than that possession.. I understand he was trying to do the right thing..

Let's get him back and healthy.. I appreciate his effort on that play..
Disagree. Your star sets the tone for the team. You absolutely want him hustling and scrapping for loose balls.

Really depends on the surgery that was done. If it’s a UCL tear (which I think is most likely based on the mechanism of injury) there is a newer technique using an internal brace that may speed return, but in many cases it’s season ending. But it really depends on what was injured and what surgery was needed.
Would it be likely that the team wanted to wait a week and see how the injury progressed and if it'd heal on its own (more short term) before deciding on a more long-term approach of surgery? That would seem to explain why the decision wasn't made until today.
Agreed on too little info to speculate.

Highly doubt its UCL. No way time line would be reportedly 2-4 weeks. My guess is loose fragment or OCD of capitulum.

If it’s a loose body then waiting to see if it mechanically engaged and limits range of motion would make sense to me.

But once again—we really have limited info and should respect his privacy.

That 1994-95 team needs a shout out. Ray Allen, Doron Sheffer, KO, B Fair and Donny Marshall leading the way to a gut-wrenching loss to UCLA in the end. That team was loaded and poised.

That team may have been the best offensive team we ever had. That team had 4 future NBA players (Allen, Donny, Ollie, Knight) and Scheffer could have played in the NBA but he was going to make more money in Europe. When you look at their stats, remember that teams did not shoot as well in the 90's. Fair and Allen's 3 point shooting numbers are insane for the era.

Few questions here. If it’s a complete tear he becomes almost undraftable and will likely return right? What’re we looking at like 9 months of rehab after reconstruction? How much does the fact that it’s the non shooting elbow even matter here?
It’s his left elbow. He will still be drafted high.

Does Bouk now pull a RIP Hamilton, return for his junior year and win a championship?

I'd like to hope so.
I'm expecting him not to return. This injury would seem to make his decision easier, especially if it won't impact his performance. I see this is a 'wake-up' call.

Just pointing out the risk/reward thingee.

That was not the best UConn team ever. 04, 99

The 2009 team before Dyson went down was playing flawlessly. There was beautiful ball movement, easy shots, great D. It wasn’t a typical Calhoun team that struggled and gutted out games, it was easy. I misspoke in saying it was the best team we’ve had, but it was definitely the prettiest basketball we’ve ever played.

Is there anyone other than Goodman who’s saying it will only be 2-4 weeks? Our beat writers are sticking by the indefinite label, staff still seems to be dodgy on the issue. I don’t have any inside knowledge but 2-4 weeks seems to be extremely optimistic, no?

Based on DHs history of truth on injuries I'm only guessing but I think we saw Bouks last game as a Husky a couple of weeks ago. The surgery being necessary to assure the kid is going to be at his best for the future is enough for me it's not going to be 2-4 weeks there's no shot. If it was it would be the back end at best and at that point we may be on the outside of the bubble so why even attempt to be out there like Waddel was against Ohio St?

Our beat writers don’t know anything. They get very little access. Guys online who don’t even live in CT know more than them. When it comes to recruiting, our beat writers know even less. It seems they actually get most of their info from the boneyard.

Indefinite: lasting for an unknown or unstated length of time.
"they may face indefinite detention"
synonyms:
unknown · indeterminate · unspecified · unlimited ·
[more]
  • not clearly expressed or defined; vague.
    "their status remains indefinite"
    synonyms:
    vague · ill-defined · unclear · loose ·
    [more]
There is a reason they are sticking to the term indefinite. Like us, and most everyone else, no one knows at this point until we hear from a doctor or likely James himself.
I don’t know why we always come across as if we are owed anything. I would rather the other team have to guess like we are which can help in game planning.

Having only 3 active guards for the foreseeable future is scary. Have to believe coach has at least thought about working Andrew into the rotation. At least in a very limited role.

Well you can't ever be wrong saying he's out indefinitely.

Goodman got that info from Uconn staff.
You're right, but the confusion is, was it before or after Hurley knew about the surgery. In my opinion, it I put my detective hat on and put all the pieces of the puzzle together, DH suggested that he would miss some time but that it wouldn't be much, then he told us about the specialist, and then we found out about the surgery. I don't see any way that the specialist looks at Bouk's elbow and says, " We need surgery right now!" UNLESS it's an extremely minor procedure. It's not like this was an emergency surgery where he was rushed to the hospital for a major surgery.

So, to recap, my conclusion is that Hurley definitely knew about the surgery and that it was planned going into the specialist visit, OR the specialist determined that after looking at the MRI results that day, that it would be best if he went in quick and cleaned it up, which would constitute a minor surgery.

So, 2-4 weeks checks out. Just my opinion putting all the pieces together that we know of.

That Creighton loss continues to be a b****
Like I said at the time, that game could easily be the difference between making the Tournament a not, between making a "we're back" statement and not. We can't take anything for granted, as we're seeing here.

This is a crappy season for it to be one's last. Rest up. Come back next year. Hang a banner. Put a #2 on the Huskies of Honor.

I am always reminded of Kenyon Martin and Cincy in 2000. That is bad luck.
Yeah I remember that- cincy was a 1seed -Kmart got hurt - i think they got knocked out in the second round -the committee still gave them a 1 seed for body of work even though he was out for the year. Tuff break. That was the worst one I can think of that comes to mind

I agree with everything in this take. It wasn’t like it was emergency surgery, otherwise no way would you see bouk on the sidelines Monday- the only question I have is if hurley knew about the surgery a couple days prior , why was Bouk a gametime decision late afternoon Monday going into the Depaul game? Gamesmanship by Hurley? Now if you’re telling me bouks elbow was still feeling a little frisky Tuesday morning and they went in to see a specialist and the specialist said “we got to go in there and clean some things up” and Hurley didn’t know about it -that’s a different story. Now if we can just get some solid play from our guards it’s possible we can go 3-1 during this 4 game set -I still think he comes back for Seton Hall February 6- plus a little Covid pause wouldn’t hurt either-( so funny, when We are psyched for games we get Covid cancellations now we wouldn’t mind a couple postponements but watch us play our full schedule straight through) unbelievable how our luck has been the past five years.

The biggest loss here isn't Bouk's career (he's going 1st round whenever he goes) or even one season's Tournament outcome in a bizarre year.

It's the same thing that's been a struggle for half a decade: relevance.

It's much easier to sell recruits and the media on a "UConn's back" narrative when we're 15-2, ranked #12, and battling for a Big East title.

We've shown great toughness against mediocre BE opponents, but realistically we're going to end up middle of the pack in conference and out of the Top 25. Hurley's recruiting has been great in spite of that, but there's only so long he can sell the "trajectory" of the program. Injuries or not, we need a year of being ranked and relevant wire to wire to keep the momentum, and it's looking much harder to do that now.

in looking at huskies who have played in the nba, Chuck Aleksinas won a championship at Kentucky and then transferred to UConn during his sophomore year. not looking to derail the thread, but what happened there.

That’s why that creighton loss is going to stick with me for a long long time -I still can’t believe we lost that game- we win that game we are clearly probably ranked right around 10 in the country , undefeated in the Big East and could afford a few losses as while bouks out. I know it was like three weeks ago but that loss was a killer as far as taking us to the complete next level nationally. Now we pretty much have to win 5-6 games in a row without bouk to move up 10 spots in the rankings. you know how the polls go, so hard to break in , but once you establish yourself year in and year out, it’s pretty hard to fall out(Unless you have a full collapse like the dookies LOL)
