How about we try to look at the situation through Ray's eyes rather than the prism of Celtic fanhood.
You're a 37-year old player who realizes he only has a couple, maybe three decent years left in the league.
You came to a team through a trade, played your heart out even when hurt, took the role of the third wheel although you'd always been "the man" for the good of the team, helped the team win a championship and yet still got the bulk of the blame when things didn't go well. Lost game 7 to the Lakers in 2010? If only he hadn't shot so poorly, if only this, if only that. The all-universe KG got 3 rebounds in that game. 3! Maybe an extra rebound or two swings the game the Celts' way. But no, can't blame KG -- he's a warrior. Pierce shot 5/15 in the game. Maybe if he had a shot a better percentage the Celts would have won. But no, can't blame Pierce -- he's the captain. Must be Ray's fault.
Now fast forward a couple of years. You've been dangled in trade talks for three straight years. You've actually been told you were traded, only to have the trade rescinded. You've been replaced in the starting lineup by the next great Celtic hope, who turned out not to be quite the be-all everyone thought. You've had to put up with a teammate that you can't stand who just happens to be the starting point guard. The team could have told him during the year that they wanted him back, but didn't because it all hinged on whether KG came back or not. When midnight struck on free agency day, the first call they made was to Jason Terry, who by the way plays the same position as you. And to top it all, the team only got real interested in bringing you back once the Heat made their intentions known.
Tell me again why you'd want to spend the last couple of years in the league putting up with that crap? Oh that's right -- "loyalty". Because, you know, when the team gets rid of a player, it's business, but when a player leaves, it's being a traitor.
Fanboy garbage. No one cares that Ray decided to leave. So I don't know why you're acting as if people do. Best of luck in Miami. It's the huffing and puffing about how disrespected he was that gets old. The Celts offered him more money. He was on the trading block, sure, but the Celtics had a deal for Josh Smith all but done this season that would have resulted in Pierce getting traded and how much whining and complaining about how disrespected Pierce was has there been? Exactly zero. And Pierce has suffered through exponentially more garbage in his tenure in Boston than Ray ever had to.
It's perfectly fine that Ray wants to chase a ring with Miami, good luck to him. But this "disrespect" thing is a joke. This board sounds like a bunch of soccer moms whose kid got benched when they talk about Ray. It's embarrassing and completely out of step with reality. I'm half expecting a post where someone floats the idea of getting rid of Lebron so Ray can get more shots.
