Most of the reason Karl never got out was because of melo..........and now Galinari was hurt or they would have won the 1st one..........Melo is a good scorer but not a good teammate........he's been something like 28 for his last 85 or something.........and look at the assists he's racking up.........overrated and the Knicks may be able to beat the Pacers but even that may be trouble!! Go Pacers
I disagree. Maybe Melo contributed to it, but Karl is probably the main reason those teams struggled in the playoffs.
Did you watch the Nuggets/Warriors series this year? His team did everything fundamentally wrong defensively in the game. The Nuggets kept doing basically all the wrong things that kept giving open shots to the Warriors. Andre Miller guarding Curry, going small ball against Bogut and Landry (starting Chandler at the 5), switching defensive assignments constantly, having both McGee and Koufos on the floor at the same time...
Chandler playing out of position at the 5 really hurt their team understanding where they needed to be. In previous instances, Karl would have McGee on Carl Landry and Miller guarding Barnes. In others, it's Miller on Klay with Iggy on Barnes. In this picture, Chandler jumps the high pick with Lawson to try and trap Curry near halfcourt, expecting help from McGee, but because McGee thinks he's still checking Landry, he doesn't even have time to look and see if Chandler's hedging on the trap, expecting him to be guarding Bogut. While this is definitely a failure of awareness by McGee to rotate over (surprise) it's very hard to give him too much blame when Karl is just throwing out these insane defensive assignments.
Edit: Also to add to the point, it was so bad that when Andre Miller was asked what happened in their series, he merely said "We got outcoached."
Edit2: Corey Brewer and Andre Miller combined to shoot 0-9 from three in game 6. They were 0-6 in game 5. 4-9 in game 4. 2-4 in game 3. 5-14 in game 2. 3-5 in game 1. Brewer is a career 30% 3 point shooter and Andre Miller is a career 21% 3 point shooter. 14-47 for the series, 29.7%.
This is absolute garbage and the only reason it happened is because George Karl was letting them shoot.
