I hate for UConn to lose either of these coaches, but these jobs, IMO FWIW, are better jobs for Kimani and Luke to take seeing how they have never been head coaches running a college basketball program.
I want Kimani to take over as headcoach when Dan hits 60 and retires, but I don't think he'll stick around that long.

Being the top assistant on a great program may be a better gig than third string QB in the NFL (where you make a couple mil per year and don't get CTE).

And NC State fans and administration want to think of themselves as this elite program up there with Duke and UNC, but they are clearly a distant 3rd fiddle to those 2 schools.

If UNC keeps Hubert then there’s a chance to move into the 2 a lot. He’s awful!

In time Hurley leaves, Luke takes over. He has plenty of experience in MCBB and most importantly the brains to do the job. Can he recruit? He’s young and relates well.

That's not the job I think he should take. For his first head coaching gig, he should take a job at a mid major which has advantages in their conference and win for a couple of years. NC State is a middle of the pack job in the ACC.
I disagree.

I get the program has been inconsistent, but NC State would be an incredible first landing spot for any first-time head coach.

I mean quality of job these days boils down to what your NIL budget is

He needs to prove he’ll be successful on his own first.

Do you really think Bobby coming off a P4 coaching gig is going to join Danny’s staff? Would seem like an all time unusual move and a distraction more than a value add.

Luke going where his bosses brother just got punted seems equally odd.

They coached together at Wagner, so of course it could happen again. Bobby would be a great add to the staff.

Wagner 10 years ago is not UConn and where either of their career is today.

Separately, why can’t Bobby make a mark coaching?

ehhhhh....
state plays third fiddle to duke and UNC....and their fans believe they should be a lot better than they can reasonably expect to be....as their past 5 coaches have shown.

No big name is going to go out of their way to be the one to bring state back to glory, and they are certainly not bringing in money like the other schools in the area.

It's a tough place to be in.

Luke hasn’t head coached before - what is the goal, a blue blood? For what he’d be a credible candidate for, there is more to like than not.

I don't know, ask Tom Moore, Dave Leitao and literally the thousands of other coaches who couldn't do it. Just goes to show how hard it is and how lucky we are to have Dan Hurley.

Well, I guess my point is you have a brother who can do it, a father who can do it, you were an AA. What’s missing?

Same reason why LaMelo and Lonzo are signing huge NBA contracts and LiAngelo is starting a mediocre rap career. Not everyone in the same family has the same talents

Unless Luke takes the Chris Dailey path and understands that sometimes being a great asst in a program is more valuable and/or preferred than being the #1.
He not in it bc he needs the money so this could work.

I’d like Luke to go win elsewhere before becoming our head coach. Kimani seems ready right now, but he has a little baggage that’s held him back. Frankly, I’d be happy as hell if I were either of them. They have great jobs in an awesome environment. I wouldn’t be in any rush to leave.

He was gonna get fired last year if they didn’t make the crazy run. Saved himself a year, has been bad outside of last year.
It was their first final four in 40 years. Seems like that should have bought him more time than 1 year.
Regarding this job I think it all comes down to how much NIL they have to spend and if the next coach thinks they are able to jump in and successfully leverage that money. The expectation will probably be to spend money and achieve quick results.
On the flip side at a mid major you have no NIL and you would be judged on recruiting and building up players. You should have more time to prove yourself.
If he starts you at a mid major and has success he can then jump to power conference and bring his top players with him.

If either of these assistants leave I think there is a good chance some players may follow. I wouldn’t blame or judge anyone for that.

A big if but if we lose one or both of Luke or Kimani I wonder if Bobby Hurley joins the staff if he’s out at ASU. A lot of ifs, I know
Kinda hope not, because Dan Hurley seems to be a good space emotionally, now that he’s out of his father's and brother's shadows. I wouldn’t want to risk messing with that.

The more I look at Dan Hurley the more I really do wonder if he’s going ever suited for the NBA. Look at this year for instance and all the hoopla he’s generated. NBA coaches generally hide in the woodwork, and he is center stage. I don’t sense he’ll ever opt out for another college gig. I tend to find him long at UConn, personally, but will be interesting to see if an NBA gig makes sense for him. If so would have to be Philly/NY, or maybe SA.
No, barring a major mellowing process in the next couple years (which seems unlikely), I think most people would agree that he’s 100% not suited for the NBA. I think the larger question is always going to be whether he “knows” himself well enough to understand that, as brilliant as he is as a coach, he’s just not temperamentally suited for the constant coaching and media challenges of an 82+ game season, year after year.

Agree. Assuming both VCU and George Mason have openings due to their HCs taking P4 jobs, either would be great places for Luke to land.
You’d rather he get VCU or George Mason than NC State? Seriously? NC State may not have the brand of Carolina or Duke but they are certainly a major program. 30 NCAA appearances, 4 Final Fours, 2 National Championships. A program that is more successful in its history than every Big East team except UConn and Villanova. Plays in a P4 conference. Why do you hate Luke Murray?
