Agree. Assuming both VCU and George Mason have openings due to their HCs taking P4 jobs, either would be great places for Luke to land.
I hate for UConn to lose either of these coaches, but these jobs, IMO FWIW, are better jobs for Kimani and Luke to take seeing how they have never been head coaches running a college basketball program.

I thought nc state wants will wade.
That was Randolph Childress' guess on the Field of 68 Podcast. He stated, and I think it's good educated guess by him, that NC State fired Kevin Keats because they already have an agreement with someone else in the background and they might take a while to make the announcement of the new head coach.

A big if but if we lose one or both of Luke or Kimani I wonder if Bobby Hurley joins the staff if he’s out at ASU. A lot of ifs, I know

NC State would be a great landing place for Luke and I think he'd be a smart hire. I doubt that expectations would be for immediate deep runs and he'd have some time to build a roster. His offense will attract players.

I thought the same thing last year, so maybe I'm wrong again, but I think we should enjoy these last few weeks of Kimani and Luke

hope not. seems kind of redundant with Dan. I’d rather get a younger assistant on the come up, with a fresh perspective.

Wade is the favorite. The article simply listed a few other options. Murray doesn't appear to be a close second. There are some decent names in their including coaches with NCSt ties.

Why would you want that?

I'd put better odds at Luke taking over Arizona St. after they can Bobby than Bobby joining UConn.

Unless Luke takes the Chris Dailey path and understands that sometimes being a great asst in a program is more valuable and/or preferred than being the #1.
I actually see this as a possibility. For the whole staff. But ncsu just had a news conference with the outgoing coach saying you’d think going to the F4 and winning the acc tournament would give you the pick if the litter even locally but without a strong NIL it means nothing. This job is not too attractive as of this morning.

lol relax it’s just a hypothetical, never said I want to happen. Would assume Dan would want it though and his opinion is the most important obviously

Some wild assumptions going on here - Bobby Hurley joining Dan's staff???? One of our assistants taking over for Bobby at AZST????

This place is hysterical.

Luke & Kimani are bound to leave soon - all the best to them when they do. I'm just not sure why they would leave for a NIL-less mid major when they likely could have done that last year. My guess is both are waiting out for a P4 job somewhere, and given the supply/demand out there and constant carousel with the old guard moving out in the NIL era, they'll be in demand. Miami just grabbed a Duke assistant, and what does that dude have over our guys? Learning how to recruit under John Scheyer?

NCSt seems like a great opportunity, although the rev share piece is concerning - I would take any one of these ACC programs that are struggling right now, but have NIL/brand appeal, as an ideal landing spot.

Bill Murray's son Luke? We all know who Luke is. Lol.

Would hate to lose him but that's a pretty big gig for a first time head college basketball coach.
That was the article title copied & pasted. He may have more than one son. I didn't read the article. I just read the headline and got sad.

lol. Let me clarify - I think the odds of Bobby joining UConn's coaching staff are so ridiculously low, I'd give better odds on Luke going to AZ St. Not saying it'll happen nor in any way predicting it. I said it simply to note that I think there is zero chance Bobby joins our staff.

Just WoofWoof boosting his brand. As Charles Grodin once said of Miss Piggy, he's "sensational," perhaps compulsively so.

That’s a not a great gig - yeah it’s power five,
but can you win consistently there or manage expectations?

Keatts was 151-113, but subpar in conference 69-84, with some odd in conference losses, but many of the L’s came to ranked teams. Keatts is no coaching savant and the rumors were he was done last year until that F4 run, but State is not a great first head coaching gig in the new era of CBB because of mid-pack NIL, ACC payout structure, fan expectations, etc.

But hell I know nothing.

That's not the job I think he should take. For his first head coaching gig, he should take a job at a mid major which has advantages in their conference and win for a couple of years. NC State is a middle of the pack job in the ACC.

Hard disagree... The Mid-Major job is not what it once was. If you have any decent players they will be pilfered by a power team and I'd imagine it would extremely difficult to build any sort of continuity. I know the ACC sucks right now, but NC State has a decent history, can still sell Tobacco Road, and I imagine they have NIL to spare. I think Luke is a great coaching mind and would be able to make the Wolfpack a viable team.

Do you really think Bobby coming off a P4 coaching gig is going to join Danny’s staff? Would seem like an all time unusual move and a distraction more than a value add.

Luke going where his bosses brother just got punted seems equally odd.

I didn't bring it up, Trumbull did. I find the idea ridiculous. Thus my ensuing comments.

And NC State fans and administration want to think of themselves as this elite program up there with Duke and UNC, but they are clearly a distant 3rd fiddle to those 2 schools.
Bingo - I live in Raleigh, and they will always be an afterthought to Duke and UNC. Their fans are also a bit delusional too - personally, I don't think this is the best first gig for Luke

Just like Hurley "forced" AJax and Clingan out of the door, he would do the same for his assistants given the right opportunity.

Now, given that Hurley's stay here is going to be shorter than we would like and that the UConn assistant job is a pretty nice gig, it is imaginable that the "can't pass" offer will not arise before Hurley is trying to place one of them as a successor.

The more I look at Dan Hurley the more I really do wonder if he’s going ever suited for the NBA. Look at this year for instance and all the hoopla he’s generated. NBA coaches generally hide in the woodwork, and he is center stage. I don’t sense he’ll ever opt out for another college gig. I tend to find him long at UConn, personally, but will be interesting to see if an NBA gig makes sense for him. If so would have to be Philly/NY, or maybe SA.
