As bad as we looked in Maui - all the press we got - and the drop in rankings..

Kansas looks worse! Getting manhandled by the unranked Bluejays.

Just go to show you any team can get into funk.
3 games in a row on a neutral court, including vs a terrible Colorado team, vs a true road game is a pretty big difference.

Well, tourney’s can sort of take a life of their own - good or bad. I see them as a “blip” Quick turnarounds after games, little to no time to make adjustments…

I don’t take as much stock in what happened in Maui as much as some here and the pollsters apparently. Coaches poll - we’re out of top 25. Last night showed they made an error in last week’s voting.

Last night, Kansas looked as bad as we did in Maui which had plenty of time to prep for Creighton. It just shows you that any team, no matter how good, can fall apart at the seam.

The big question is how do you respond, and I like what I saw last night.

One trend that is emerging in the Big 12/Big East challenge is that there is some serious home cooking from the refs. Xavier is getting hammered by the officials tonight. There is no way they are winning with the way this game is getting called.

Xavier does pass the eye test though. I like their guards and Freemantle seems fine. Not a great team, but solid.

Xavier could have taken it, but they shat on themselves with 2 consecutive live ball turnovers that resulted in a layup and dunk for TCU. Xavier also fouled a 3 point shooter. It was part of a 9-3 scoring run for TCU to end the game (3 by Xavier was meaningless at the buzzer as they were down 7).

Game was decided in the first half. It is silly that Udeh only had 1 foul. There were a lot of 50/50 calls going TCU’s way. The fact that the home team is 7-0 in the Big East/Big 12 thing is also silly.

After a promising 4-1 start in challenge it looks like an overall 5-6 is the best we can hope for now. No shade against anyone, it’s better than I thought going in. Marquette drawing Iowa St on the road was brutal. No one in our league is winning that game there right now. Would’ve loved sacrificing Seton Hall or Georgetown to that one, because Marquette could handle pretty much anyone else home or away. Need St Johns to give us the 5th win.

As Nelson pointed out this is a home floor battle.

I have a feeling St. John’s wins and we steal one of the other three (honestly, possibly Seton Hall). The Hall tends to play to the level of their competition (see both VCU and Monmouth).

X last night was the game I think that tips the balance in one direction or the other. Good game. Wish they could've pulled it out. The road is the road though.

I don't disagree on Seton Hall. They defend like crazy and its at home. I just dont know where they are getting the points from in this matchup. OK St is nothing great though. It is winnable for the Hall but man they are tough to gauge. They do seem to play "up" to opponents.

I wish I could have hope in Georgetown, but I really have none. Not at West Virginia, but go ahead Cooley, prove me wrong.

Am I crazy or do others also think that Depaul is gonna be ok this year? I am predicting they get to be a bubble team and finish in the 4-6 range in the big east

Im rooting for them. Not against us but otherwise I hope they run wild. Define OK. 4-6 Range is probably a tall order. But they will win some games. A lot more. If they can stay out of the bottom 2 I would call that a smashing success considering where they are coming from.

They will probably finish bottom 3 and be regular DePaul bad. People forget DePaul would routinely go 9-2 OOC and then 3-17 in the league which was chef’s kiss because they didn’t kill the league numbers.

Yup. They are sneaky having a great season that Austin Peay loss is strange
For those of us old enough to remember, Austin Peay helped launch Pitino's career.

In the 1987 tournament they upset highly seeded Illinois in the first round and played PC in the second round. As the AP player was about to shoot free throws when up two points with about five or six seconds left Pitino called a TO and told the ref he wanted a timeout immediately upon the rebound. The free throw missed and as soon as the ball hit a PV player's hands the whistle blew (there was a bit of a struggle for possession afterwards but as the ref jumped the gun, PC's with no time coming off the clock. They tied the game at the buzzer, won in OT and ended up in the final four (one of the very few major accomplishments for that little program).

While unlikely a sign of the times. B12 collaborating with Private Equity, things like this show how creative the landscape can get with economics driving.
