Big East OOC thread '25/'26

So far, unclear too much can be derived from a 17 point win over Morgan State nor a 10 point win against Maryland which appeared fairly rubbish.
They are rubbish - didn't have to watch long to see that. New coach comes in, they basically have to slap together a frankenstein roster year one. Same thing will apply to Nova.

Everyone slaps a roster together every season. Welcome to the free agent era.

Big East not off to a great start, although a little early for hand-ringing. Shaka needs to learn it is the modern era, Providence, Villanova and St. John’s lost close to equivalent P5 programs.

The good news is that so far the Big East appears to be on the right side of a big talent gap with the non-majors. I believe BCU is the only P5 program to lose to a non-P5, which is pretty entertaining in its own right. Go back even 3 years, and the crazy upsets would be adding up by this point. We will see if this lasts, but there have not even been that many near misses.

Not sure if mid majors have a chance anymore given they are the minor league system for the majors. It’s the equivalent of the big league teams playing their triple A affiliates. Mid majors are soon to be dead.

Will this be the case for all programs in the future that are not in a P3 conference?

Bama and the Johnnies fun game to watch. Bama has playmakers as do the Johnnies. People made big shots no doubt. Ejifor tried to do too much down the stretch, he still somehow gets away with murder with his bull in a china shop play can’t stand to see it. But the Johnnies have some very tough matchups for our guys on the defensive end. It’s out of control due to the lack of a real PG but they’re solid and strong. Foul trouble if we don’t guard hard. That’s a good matchup coming up down the road.

A loss is bad
Did you see who Nova and Butler beat? Queens University? Where is that? IU Indy at least I’ve heard of. There is really nothing to be excited about other than games against other P5 schools.

6 mid majors in top 60 KP. The usual suspects. Zags, SDSU, Memphis, Boise State, StM, Utah St.

Stop ball early in transition and pack the paint looks to be the gameplan for St Johns right now.

They only found success on one on one drives and running in transition.

They know their halfcourt offense isn't good so they will run every chance they get.

We don’t pack the paint Dan Hurley makes people guard, in the face so our help D will be important and I don’t have a feel yet for this team in that area. They can succeed in one on one because they have touch matchup's in guys like Mitchell, Jackson and others. They will spread the court for sure good news is they don’t share it well so they just chuck and go after it. We foul a lot so our Huskies will need to get better on that end for sure but I think we can. Ball is huge needs to get better or they will go right at him and potentially Alex as well. No matter PG or not they will once again be a tough matchup for our Huskies. By then we should have a better idea of who we are.

Yup they will definitely plan on attacking Ball and Karaban most likely. Hopkins will be a handful in that matchup.

It's a game we may want to put more size on the court for otherwise they may take us to the rim all game. If we can stop the drives and the break its an easier win for sure.
