They weren’t though. Unless I’m remembering wrong. The league continues to struggle as a whole in the OOC. Half of the league can’t continue to be miserable. While no one in the top half outside of UConn can reel off big time wins. The last non UConn team that had a truly impressive OOC was Marquette from a couple seasons ago. SJ turned it on in conference.

Big East played the Big 10 straight up the past few years and the Big 12 has a few game lead on the Big East in their challenge the past few years.

You're wrong about nobody else in the top half of the Big East reeling off big time wins. Both Creighton and Marquette beat Purdue last season. Creighton beat #1 Kansas last season. Marquette beat #1 Kansas the year before.

The Big East will get some wins this year OOC. I think Georgetown, Seton Hall, and Butler will be pleasant surprises.

DePaul (again) and Xavier stink.

Touchè. I’ll concede that. But to play devils advocate Kansas wasn’t actually good. And yes Marquette a couple seasons ago pulled their weight.

Relative. If we are counting on Seton Hall and Butler to keep the conference strong, we are in trouble. Neither are any good, maybe not bad as they were thought to be which was bottom 3-4.

It feels like a sinking ship to be honest, momentum of bad grows YoY. The BE has the look of a slightly better WCC with Zags/StM. You just have to follow recruiting to see where the tides have shifted. From a brand standpoint, top kids want big colorful brands/schools, not small urban Catholics.

BE lost a lot of residual marquee talent over the last couple years that it did not restock on, the Kalks & Dixon's of the world, the Marquette players like Kolek & Jones. It has legitimately has no NBA talent other than Uconn & StJ.

Guess SJU’s D isn’t as good this year
The entire Bama game is on Youtube. Would like to hear others comments on it. I think St John's guard play was very much lacking against Bama and I think our guards and depth will also be a big problem for them. The speed of our guards would be a good weapon against them. Run their bigs into the ground. We need to toughen up on rebounding and would need to use Karoma more against a team like St John's. Reibe will especially need to toughen up. Big East is still the Big East and very physical. SJ are very strong on the boards. I think the game is worth watching and especially the performance in MSG vs their home bandbox. Last thought is the reminder by an announcer I heard that SJ with Pitino will definitely get better as they get closer to the end of the season. That's for sure.

Worried this is a 2-bid league.
Yeah it’s possible but I think Gtown is good enough and maybe someone like Butler can sneak in
Weak conference this year and it’s a bummer.

Wow Creighton got steamrolled. Did anyone watch? Looks like no Kalkbrenner is a problem, Gonzaga’s bigs (Ike and Huff) led the way

Good luck to them with no Kalk and a bunch of slow guys. I know Owen Freeman was talked up transferring out of Iowa, but he's not even close to what Kalk provided them on the defensive side of the floor. He did nothing last night btw, 2 pts and a couple rebounds. Kalk & Ashworth leaving might be why McDermott named his successor :).

Creighton played poorly but that doesn’t mean they will stink this year. To me, the jury is very much still out on everyone but Xavier and DePaul who are both terrible.

Butler? LOL. Don’t put too much stock in Georgetown‘s win over Maryland until you see where Maryland ends up in the Big Ten.

Some talk out there that Pitino is 50/50 to coach next year.
Damn he brought some juice to the BE. If that’s the case UConn is going to be the only tentpole. Not counting on Willard or Cooley to resuscitate Nova and Gtown anymore

Question is if Repole will still bankroll the Johnnies. If so, they'll get someone else good now that the team is rolling. Repole + MSG + big east revenue sharing will be attractive to somebody.

You'd have to think - StJ going on a nice run in March will help if that is the case. If they just turn out to be an expensive team that beats up on the dregs of the BE, that won't be overly inspiring.

I wouldn't know where they start their search, but you'd have to think it's a Northeast guy. Not sure who is first on that list. There will be a massive juice drop off not matter who it is.

DePaul has 21,210 students, slighly less than Syracuse.
Georgetown has 20,023 students, more than Stanford.
St. John's has 19,691 students, more than Boston College and Miami.
Marquette has 11,550 students, more than SMU.

Now show me comparisons against the SEC & B10. Not sure what this exercise is demonstrating.

Xavier blown out by Iowa. PC and DePaul losing to Colorado and NW.

Would UConn over BYU be the second win against a P4 for the BE?

Kim English's coaching career is hanging by a thread. Providence appears to have written some pretty big checks to put this roster together, and this could be PC's second failed attempt to pick up a quality win this early in the season. Not sure he gets another season if he blows this one.

Depaul is playing scared.

PC is really bad defensively, one man show on offense.
