Big East November '25 Thread

Depaul has to grab the rebound. That was a stupid tip by Depaul right back to the Northwestern player.

Nothing pisses me off more at the end of watching a close, well played game like Depaul/Northwestern than seeing the final play a contested, 40 foot, hero ball, 3 attempt. Most middle school coaches have a 3 seconds left play. Depaul just dribbled to midcourt and hoped for a miracle.

Kim English's coaching career is hanging by a thread. Providence appears to have written some pretty big checks to put this roster together, and this could be PC's second failed attempt to pick up a quality win this early in the season. Not sure he gets another season if he blows this one.

Depaul is playing scared.
I don't know about his coaching career, but his Providence coaching career, yeah it is hanging by a thread. English has to make the NCAAT, at least, even if they lose in the first round that will be enough to convince the AD Napalillo (spelling) to keep him for another year.

Just checked their schedule, they now have 6 home games in a row with Wisconsin being the only tough opponent. They need to get to 7-3 from the current 2-2, probably doable.

I’m gonna say that and one of the wins needs to be at least one of Wisconsin or Florida (hoping they draw them). A UW loss and TCU win probably doesn’t move the needle.

Didn’t realize they are in a tournament. Florida would put up 150 on them.

I still don't get the hype over him. He's been about .500 his entire career.

14-16 and 20-13 for 34 and 29 at GMU
21-14 (with Cooleys team) and 12-20 for 33 and 34 at PC

Then 2-2 this year for a 69-65 record. I get he's super young at 37 but he's not been anything beyond mid in four years as a coach.

PC has basically already punched their ticket out of an at large with how bad the BE has fared. This early BE showing has been the worse we’ve seen.

I watched the entire Providence game and was so unimpressed. It looked like a lot of one on one mixed with incredible antipathy for defense. Unlike some, I want Providence and the entire Big East to be good but as of today, that isn’t the case for either.

Maybe I’m being pessimistic but I think PC has to run the table for the rest of OOC and break off an upset or two in the BE to have a hope for an at large bid. 8-2 going into BE play means their ceiling is probably right around the bubble. And that’s if things go well

This was actually Colorado’s largest margin of victory this year (9). Their other two wins are Montana St (6) and Eastern Washington (5 in OT). This loss will age very poorly. Not sure how good VT is or will be

Not many opportunities for upsets when UConn and SJU might be the only quad 1 wins in the conference. We’ll see how Creighton responds after the blowout to the zags.

Revenue sharing is supposed to help the BE teams in particular isn’t it (don’t have to share with football etc etc). Need that to get up and running

You have to wonder what the main driver is here - we are looking at a historically bad BE this year after two sub par years (sans UConn NC). 3 bids to only two teams in round of 32 isn’t great. You only have to follow the recruiting trail to see where it starts. Then we have one of our signature coaches refusing to use the portal, another one announcing his successor.

Hopefully Mora ties off a great FB season, our two hoops program make a run and it opens up one of the ACC or B12s eyes. Right now it feels like we are on the top of the mast of a sinking ship.

It would almost be funny if it weren’t so annoying. Shaka doesn’t recruit transfers and Pitino doesn’t recruit frosh Altho he appears to make exceptions. Shaka just being willfully stubborn there’s no other explanation. Glad I’m not a Marquette fan.

I was thinking about that also. We read all these articles saying the Big East men's basketball teams had more to spend than the P4 conference teams that had football. So how does that impact winning? This is the first year and it wasn't passed until a few months ago so maybe it will take a little longer to impact winning. We'll see how the next few years go.

Maybe - but we also know a kid like Toure chose Arkansas over PC for less money. I don’t think it’s all about the money. It should start with a new commissioner.

I’ve been saying for a bit now the league was trending towards looking more like the Atlantic 10.

Money helps but I agree it isn't everything. Maybe the Big East coaches need to start buying Bentleys. 😂

We’ll be a top 5 program for as long as Hurley is here even if it does turn into the A10 but Worried he’ll retire before we can get that golden ticket to a P4.

Yeah we haven't had a full rev share only offseason yet. Also what these articles missed is that the big east has the potential to outspend, but in most cases the teams don't actually have the cash to do so. And 1 of the teams that does is only spending in house on mediocre players.

KJ Lewis took over for Gtown against Clemson with 17 in the second half. big win for the BE hopefully Clemson ends up being the 4th best team in the ACC.

Idk why cooley doesn’t start iwuchukwu over the giant stiff from the Middle East

Georgetown is 4-0 with two wins over power conference teams, they play good defense and look like a tournament team. People actually showed up to watch the game in DC, things are looking up for the Hoyas.

Yeah last few years (particularly the two title years when Georgetown was extra dreadful), the UConn games down here have been like 70/30 UConn fans. I bet Georgetown gets a little better of a home presence this season.

Thankfully the Hoyas aren't the dumpster fire they've been in recent years. We've run out of extinguishers for the Big East.
