Big East January '26 Thread - Take Two

That game was spectacular for its absurdity. The foul call for Gold could have just as easily been a travel on him, then he only hits 1 of 2, and then Providence inbounds the ball and immediately calls a timeout, burning a second and not being able to move the ball up. They didn't have a plan for what to do with the ball if Gold missed the free throw?

I saw Friars up 4 in regulation with not much time and went to CFP pregame. My mistake.

What have you seen from English over the past two plus seasons that would give you a reason to believe they would have a plan?

Rough evening for Corey Floyd Jr

Turned the ball over at the end of regulation that led to the game tying FTs. Then turned it over and committed the foul at the end of OT to give Marquette the game winning FT

Marquette wins! 38 for Nigel James, WOW

As of right now, Nova and St. John's are both wearing home jerseys Round 1, and Seton Hall is 50/50 for that privilege. The Johnnies are no slouches. They have need to gel but once they do I believe they are a top 15-20 team. I am not expecting to sweep them.

ESPN analytics, for whatever that’s worth, has us with less than a 50% chance of beating them at MSG (as of today). That’s the only game on our schedule like that. Should be a hot one.

There's very few if any UConn transfers away I will root against, but I sure do enjoy when Corey Floyd Jr plays bad

I get that. The people around him said some truly awful things about the coach and program (right before they went back to back, which will always be funny to me), but I feel like Corey has suffered enough for his choice. He could have stayed, actually developed into a role player, and been part of championships. His loss.

A lot of Providence fans really thought they did something when they got him to leave UConn for them. Now, they’re kind of sick of his play,

Gold has sucked for years now and yet Shaka believed he was a starting 5. Wild is eval.
I said this in February 2023 after Gold had a good game against us: “Definitely a fluke game for Gold, but Marquette fans should be intrigued that they could have a stretch 5 on their hands for 4 years”

Little did I know that 3 years later, he would be the same exact player. Sad situation

A stretch 5 that doesn’t rebound well or shoot it all that well is a tough start. When is the last time Shaka has had a true center?

I am not sure how you define true center, but the last time he had a good player in the paint was Oso Iguadharo. He was a very good player and high IQ player. Unfortunately, in his last season there he didn't have one good game in the 2024 NCAAT.

A true center can command space in the paint and rebound.

UConn (1)
Villanova (6)
St. Johns (6)
Seton Hall (10) (last 4 byes)
Looks about right for now. StJ will probably move up, Nova sits put and SHU toys with the bubble. Not sure I see another team getting in.
