Sad. Cooley wasn't the guy. In this day an age, need someone who knows how to execute, not a traveling salesman. Cooley is a fine coach as it comes to culture building and motivating, but in this world it's about knowing how to build a roster with pinpoint accuracy, leveraging the portal and managing NIL/Ops. More science than art these days.

Big question is how far gone is that fanbase, will they return with a winner, quickly?

It could be from any night and every night of a Georgetown game. It's really sad to see what that Georgetown Basketball program has become. I still remember Hoya Paranoia from the 1980s and then the mid 1990s with Allen Iversen. They were the quintessential popular iconoclastic team in those decades. John Thompson 3rd did a solid job during his time in the 2000s and early 2010s with a Final Four, but since then it has been crickets and apathy.

I thought Cooley would be the guy, but like I said in the post above he really has disappointed and underwhelmed.

St. John's is the template. Small alumni base but huge metro area and if you can produce high level basketball the fans will return

St. John's has 200,000 alumni and 60 percent of them live within an hour of the campus.
Georgetown has 240,000 alumni and 10 percent of them live within an hour of the campus.

StJ has a very unique advantage in Mike Repole. They also got a very shiney HOF coach circumstantially on the back end. I don't know if this is the template, as very hard to reproduce. Is Pitino Jr the coach in waiting?

That's good info. But my point is that when StJ sells out MSG, it's not all alums. Many are hoop fans that want to see high level ball. Similar dynamic could exist in the DC metro, no?

Eh, such a diff vibe. MSG is a mecca. I can buy this. MSG is also so easy to get to for so many.

He won the NIT and made the dance multiple times at Minnesota. Had a winning record at FIU for the first time in 15 years his lone season there, on top of his success at New Mexico. For sure his last name is probably his best asset, just not his only one.

Yeah they did something UConn hasn't done: sweep Creighton. Holtzmann is turning that program around and DePaul is no longer the doormat for the rest of the Big East teams to wipe their feet on. I said this in January, DePaul will not play beyond the Big East Tournament, but they are not going to be a pushover if you see them on the schedule-they will be a pain in the ass.

Brandon Maclin was carving up Creighton. Riebe will be very good for UConn and will make his way to the NBA, but I would love NJ Benson on this UConn team. He plays above the rim and leads the nation in dunks.

They do - it all starts with the H2H with PC. They lose that, then they loses the season series (swept), and PC would only have to tie them with 8 wins. They'll win tie breaker at 8-12. Creighton can easily lose at Butler. Then PC just needs to win one of the last two.

I've been delighted by how he's done.

I'm not thrilled by how my reaction reflects poorly on me, but I'm not going to hide from my initial negative feelings about him running out on Providence, and those feelings have changed only to the extent that I now I enjoy his poor performance. His comments toward UConn fans and Hurley rub me the wrong way. They seem consistently smarmy, unless I'm allowed to say dickish.

After the way we torched Nova away I don’t have a lot of confidence they will give St. John’s much trouble after last night’s beating. Pitino will have them frantic.
