That was a VERY long time ago. Things do change. But UConn becoming dominant was more like a paradigm shift. Those don’t happen often.
Yeah, that's not happening again anytime soon for sure. It took an almost impossible series of events and people for it to happen. A special coach, at the perfect time, in the perfect conference for the school.

Agreed. We were and are very lucky as a fan base. We hit the lottery with Calhoun/Geno x The Big East. Thanks to you guys we hit the lotto again by being invited back. Thank You. Now F PC haha

Blah blah blah.

Providence is a team that we don’t really care about beating as much as we care about losing too. It’s still embarrassing to most of the fan base when we lose to PC. I wouldn’t say it’s a rivalry. It is what it is.
right...

He's probably too young to realize that UConn used to be an afterthought for many schools in the BE. Like Cuse, Georgetown, and SJU. Now look around. The point is, things change.
Back when you were in your 30's...;)

When he took over it was pure crap. Lowest of the low. 2 players tried, convicted, and sentenced for felony assault on a fellow student, for kicks apparently. Terrible grades, No fundraising, worst facilities, and a small season ticket base. Oh and the team sucked as well. Frankly, they were a complete laughingstock. The man, with help from the AD and the President of the school, flipped every single thing I mentioned completely around. Now 2,000 out of 4,000 total students have season tickets (the max amount). Fundraising at record levels every year, kids are all graduating, his players are fine young men, facilities as good as anywhere, and finally the team is competitive and the program and coach are respected nationally. If UConn fans don't care about playing PC, then I think it's their loss because it's more fun when we are all good.

That is what he has done for the program.
When has PC been good? In the last 24 years PC has won exactly 1 NCAA tournament game (by one point) over a #9 seed and then got waxed by UNC. they won one BET, again when it was the watered down version of today (Except no Uconn even). Two first round NBA draft picks in 24 years, neither was ever more than a back of the rotation guy for a couple years. Its the epitome of a mid-major program.

Does CBSSN have a streaming service. I have Directv Stream and don’t see it listed

yes it's truly a sad state of affairs for cuse, bc, pitt, and louisville these days.... PC would crush all of them.
Now but if we were all in the same conference again, PC would struggle. The reason that BC, Pitt, and Syracuse have struggled is because they are playing in a southern league which results in a diminished ability to recruit. It is the same reason we struggled in the American in both football and basketball and why Temple is struggling as well.

Wednesday 1/26/22
Creighton @ Butler, 6:30, FS1 - Aaron Goldsmith, Donny Marshall
Line: Creighton -4.5/126

17 Providence @ 21 Xavier, 6:30, CBS SN - Tom McCarthy, Bob Wenzel, A.J. Ross
Line: Xavier -8.5/139

22 Marquette @ Seton Hall, 8:30, FS1 - Dave Sims, Bill Raftery
Line: Seton Hall -5/146

I'm tempted to bet on Providence plus the points, but think I'm gonna pass. Marquette getting 5 at Seton Hall on the other hand...

I will I think. Providence may not win, but they'll keep it close.

Be careful, word is possibly no Horchler or Reeves again, tonight.
Just checked some of the on/off stats and the team without either one is fine, but without both is a catastrophe. -19 net rating over 40 possessions, compared to +17 with at least 1 (+22 with both). And this is garbage time filtered out.

A lot of it was Marquette game, but also some Fairfield, St Johns, and Georgetown.

For me, this line assumes a healthy Bryce Aiken. Is he cleared to play (after concussion)?

It's also a payback game for the Hall at home.

He is listed as Questionable for tonight, so we'll see. Certainly going to be a big factor.

Watching PC/Xavier and just saw something i have never seen before. Xavier drives to hoop and PC defender jumps in to draw the charge. One ref calls charge the other calls block. They talk it over and they gave a foul to both players.
