Big win for Xavier. With 14 wins and their OOC, they need 5 more for a tourney bid.
Not a big win. They barely beat DePaul despite the fact that their best player, Javon Freeman-Liberty not playing.

However, on the other side of the argument, this is the most talented balanced DePaul team in quite some time:

  • JFL is their clear lead guard
  • David Jones is a very good #2 option at the wing
  • Brandon Johnson is their #3 scoring option who also does all the dirty work and has the ability to play the 5 when they want to go small.
  • Jalen Terry is their young, four-start point guard who was originally recruited by Stubblefield. Despite getting starter minutes, he has the ability to play alongside JFL, so he's not always counted on to be their on-ball guard.
  • They have defensively minded 1/2 punch at the post between Anei/Ongenda.

Marquette win is looking very good. Playing Villanova right down to the wire. Nice win Marquette. WOW!
Only gave up 5 foul shots to Villanova (only took 2 themselves, can't say have seen stats like that). We need to keep Villanova off foul line also. Marquette missed 30 shots and only had 2 offensive rebounds and still won, got to love 45% from 3's.

There's been some weird game times this year. It's moved to 8:30 now but Marquette/Seton Hall was originally scheduled for 4 PM on a Wednesday and as far as I can tell that wasn't a makeup game

Creighton @ Butler got moved from FS2 to FS1. MU at SH after that at 8:30, followed bt SDST at Utah State. That was not the plan by FS1 to show in what is in the tweet by Alan. I think they thought a live USMNT soccer match was going on that date when scheduled in fall.

Georgetown playing feisty, trailing the Friars 37-34 at the half.

.-.
This is one of those games that the coach probably wishes he could spread the wealth a little in terms of shooting. Creighton is wasting a 56% night from 3 on St. Johns. Creighton is probably going to be right on the bubble in March, and that home loss to ASU is going to look like a big fat zit in the middle of its forehead to the Selection Committee.
One bad loss doesn’t kill you, they have some quality wins as well. On pace to make the tournament.

Saturday

Seton Hall at St. John's, 12pm, FS1 -Dave Sims, Jim Spanarkel
Line: Seton Hall -3

11 Villanova at Georgetown, 12pm, FOX - Brandon Gaudin, Jim Jackson
Line: Villanova -14.5

DePaul at Creighton, 5:30pm, CBSSN - Jason Horowitz, Chris Walker
Line: Creighton -8

Seton Hall without Aiken today vs the Johnnies (whom they play again on Monday). Pirates could fall to 2-6 in conference play.

Beating SJ at home and they get them Mon in Jersey

Not a Big East team but there’s no where better to comment. What is up with Bobby’s ASU team? They’re horrible.

Sunday 1/23
Butler @ 21 Providence, 12:00, FS1 - John Fanta, Vin Parise
Line: Providence -9

Xavier @ Marquette, 2:00, FS1 - Matt Schumacker, Nick Bahe
Line: Xavier -1.5

Hmm red-hot Marquette getting points at home? Kinda like that.

Rooting for Butler today, but I don't think I can bet on them. Gonna tune in though.

Butler takes Providence down to the wire at The Dunk...Friars get the win 69-62.

Providence has had a hard time shaking Butler all game.
I watched most of the game. It’s clear as day that we are a superior squad, especially offensively, if we are healthy and playing our A game. I’m looking forward to UConn exacting some revenge at the Dunk.

.-.
They just showed Providence upcoming schedule and they are going to be 10-2. After Xavier and Marquette, which they will probably split, the next three are easy, but they will have some tough games after that. UConn needs to take care of business in next three games before Villanovan.

Game hasn't been rescheduled yet.

We are not a great offensive team, so we are not superior to Providence. Do I think we are better, Yes

They are missing AJ Reeves right now, which definitely hurts their offense.

PC has only played 4 true road games so far, some of those canceled Covid games will catch up to them I suspect.

.-.
When are we getting that rescheduled PC game?
Looks unlikely. Big East isn't allowing teams to play three games in a week two weeks in a row. As a result I dont think there is a date that works. Odd that they haven't announced it won't be made up though.
