Big Bubble Night Discussion

Bubble or related games to keep an eye on tonight...
  • Oh St @ Mich St - want Mich St to lose, win puts them closer to in
  • OR @ Stanford - loss hurts Stanford big time but neither a lock
  • USC @ Colorado - want USC to keep winning
  • Boise @ SD St - place twice in next few days, if they split both stay in but lose both and one could be out
Also would add Northwestern @ Minnesota. A loss for Minnesota and they are done.

Gabe Kalscheur is out and Liam Robbins is playing with a severely sprained ankle (if he plays at all). I obviously don't want these guys hurt, but this definitely helps Northwestern's odds.

UConn, one of the most successful programs in college basketball history, has only made it to the second weekend when it was lower than a 3 seed THREE times:

1991 - UConn was an 11 seed, went to Sweet 16
2003 - UConn was a 5 seed, went to Sweet 16
2014 - UConn was a 7 seed, won National Championship.

Beating a few mediocre teams and losing in the Big East semis will get UConn an 8 or 9 seed. That means a second round exit. If UConn wants to give itself as good a chance of success as possible, it should figure out a way to get itself a better seed that does not involve a win over Villanova.

I think this team is good enough for a second weekend run if it gets the right draw. But maybe UConn fans are happy with just making the tournament now.
Hey genius, what if the coaches think an extra game, with all of the obvious negatives, also increases our chance of getting to the 8/9 line? Will you stop your stupid strawman act, then?
mind blow wow GIF

If we play the 89 game, then will probably be in a bracket with the lowest 1 seed.

who would that be ?

You think fewer games are better. I heard you the first time. Why do teams ever play non-conference games?

We need to win the next three. If we do that who cares about the other garbage.
Probably true, I agree.

However some of us enjoy keeping track of Bubble team games nightly in case we don't.

Wrong thread...this is about Bubble games nightly to keep an eye on.

You want the "need more ooc games" thread.

Normally, I love predicting the tournament field, but this season is such a SWAG that there is no point. I expect this to be the most arbitrary and infuriating field ever picked. I just hope that Fox Sports pulls for UConn with the Selection Committee, because I suspect that ESPN, Fox and CBS will have a lot more say in which teams go and where they are seeded than NET or W/L records.

Not as big a deal as bubble teams winning, but USC down 13 at the half to Colorado

They were underdogs tonight on the road anyways. The margin isn't great, but it happens.

Oregon up 3 on Stanford with 3 minutes left. This one would be big for us. ESPNU if you got it.

I can see Boise or SDSU making it to the 2nd weekend if they end up on the 7/10 line.

MSU hangs on with some favorable calls. They're back on the bubble after winning 3 straight against Indiana, Illinois, and Ohio State. Still work to do

But we got the two big losses we needed. Both of Lunardi's bubble teams playing tonight lost at home (Stanford, Minnesota).

Also got a Boise loss.

So for now looks like Minn & Stanford out.
Stanford still has a USC game so not dead.
Mich St alive with 4 regular season games left including Michigan twice.

Why is there such a discrepancy?

Edit: Between Palm and Lunardi.

Because, like @nelsonmuntz said earlier, this tournament is a WAG. So many uneven profiles. Very few OOC games. Is the B1G historically good, like the numbers say (probably not). Did the AAC become a 1-bid league overnight, legitimately (no). Etc Etc.
