BIG 12 25-26

The Nebraska win over Washington I think sealed the deal. (Talk about mixed emotions)
Did it? Because they're still well under 0.500 in the conference (and can't get there) and are still 1-10 in Q1 games (which isn't good).

What I meant was Nebraska is currently in given their victory over Washington and the Sun Devils are out given their victory over Houston.

I do have my fingers crossed that someone in the committee will have some sense of perspective and look holistically at the Sun Devils. I also understand the vast limitations of Charlie Creme and the futility of looking at bracketology tea leaves before the conference tournaments.

What's that said and listening to the noise out there at this point it would appear is Nebraska is in an ASU is out. It is certainly my hope that Nebraska gets to stay in as a Husker fan but it is my dream that the Sun Devils dance with Molly this year

This is the frustration that ACC and Big 12 teams face. Can anyone say, with certainty, that Arizona State, Oklahoma State, Colorado, and Utah or Clemson, Virginia Tech, Syracuse, and UVA are noticeably worse than Illinois, Oregon, Washington, and Nebraska? No, they can't say that. If they say that they can, they're lying. We have metrics that people refuse to use because either they don't fully understand them, don't know how the committee will interpret them, or want to push a narrative.

Also, the sensationalism generated around a single "big win" has to stop. I still remember when Mississippi State beat LSU (the defending champs) and everyone and their mamas thought that they'd sealed their tournament fate (that they were in no matter what). They made the WBIT, largely because they slumped hard after that one data point. Colorado's win over Texas Tech on Saturday was nice, but now we see a Q2 loss to a reeling Utah team. So they're still on the bubble because they negated a nice Q2 win over TT with that mess against Utah. The Clemson (Duke) and Virginia (@ Louisville) wins are the talk of the town right now, but they won't mean much if those teams don't win out (and I would be surprised if Clemson wins out because they're making their California trip, and only four teams in two seasons have swept the California teams in California: UNC last year and Duke, Louisville, and Virginia Tech this year).
Really appreciate this analysis. I largely agree.- Colorado is so similar to ASU it's scary. Both are defense first teams that at times struggle and lack three-point efficiency.

As we saw last night when defense falters the Buffs are ordinary. Also In fairness Utah really came prepared. I was wondering how that game would turn out after the unbelievable 4th quarter in their previous game against BYU when those two teams broke the B12 record for most points combined in a single quarter as Utah scored 33 and BYU 30 as BYU wins to strike fear into the heart of all Sun Devil fans.

In 8 hours we tip at Desert Financial Arena on an emotional senior night with a BYU team that obviously can light it up. I know Molly Miller will have the team prepared and the Devils want revenge for the early season loss up in Provo.

I didn't sleep very well last night as I was running all these scenarios through my head but one thing is very clear.... Tonight is a must win for the Devils.

I also totally concur with you about the impact of a big win down the stretch. One would hope that the committee would take a look holistically and while considering statistics and the q1 issue I think there are other countervailing or important elements that may not be quantified that really should be considered.

From my perspective (obviously biased) the committee should reward a huge turnaround particularly in this day and age of a transfer portal in nil.

I have to smile I think it was this time last year when someone on the board questioned whether I was a real ASU fan ... They speculated I just enjoyed dunking on the nice coach from Delaware 2021 COY in her conference. This year has been an unbelievable ride a great shining blessing. I certainly hope that it will end with a dance and I mean in the Big show.

Nebraska just snapped a six-game losing streak in February. They're "in" because people are overreacting to a one-point win over a Washington team that is okay. I can't imagine that a team being five games UNDER 0.500 and coming off a 6-game losing streak (with at least four of those games being blowouts) will have its entire fortunes decided by a one-point win over a team that most bubble teams could beat. Stanford beat Washington and isn't likely to go dancing this season because they took a pounding in the ACC (the conference that everyone likes to dump on).

The Big 12 is beyond predicting. In TCU I trust, except when I don't. Arizona losing is the only relative constant.
Having gone through this dark Valley of despair for 3 years I feel your pain.

Oklahoma St. beat Iowa St. on the road. That figures. Maybe Iowa St. isn't back on track w/ Brown's return after all.

.-.
More fun in the Big12 tonight with Jekyll/Hyde teams as good OSU shows up at Iowa State - now healthy but still inconsistent.

Good BYU making an appearance also in the first half.

This league does deliver entertainment.

And Kansas continues their late season surge, knocks of Texas Tech, who is stumbling a bit.

...and now pesky Kansas back from the dead, knocking off stumbling Texas Tech.

The whole league might just finish 9-9, requiring many coin flips for tourney seeding. 😁

@azfan while you were busy talking smack about Colorado and Utah, you forgot to worry about BYU. Somehow might be some karma involved here, I'm not quite sure how that works.

They aren't and she is not close to 100% and won't be this season even though she is back playing 20-25 minutes/game.

BYU came back from the dead with 3 straight wins to close the regular season--over Utah, Arizona St. and Colorado. I think they want in on all this bubble talk. 2 of the wins were on the road.

9-9 in this seasons weak league shouldn't get you in. And that includes my Cyclones if they lose today. Only NET is saving the Cyclones and maybe some name recognition from Audi Crooks. I keep running afoul of my league homers that want to talk about the league having so much parity as an excuse for losing games we are favored in. It's mediocrity in a league with a few Top 25 teams, no Top 10 teams and one hosting team. I don't think more than six teams from the league should be picked, the other can go to the WBIT.

Most of the games the Cyclones have lost in league play are games they were favored in. Sure the Brown injury exposed how fragile the balance on the Crooks lead team was but they are again favored today on the road.

Oopsie, wrong thread! Darn conferences w/ Big in the name and a number that does not accurately reflect the number of teams who are members.
Sooner or later it had to happen to me. 🤣🤣🤣. Who's with me in creating a petition to get one of these dang BIG conferences to change their name? 🤪

Meanwhile, in Big 12 stuff (although I loved the Big Ten post here showing some love for my local Gopher gals!), here's the Big 12 bracket.

Cyclones ended up with a not so tough looking draw. Will be interesting to see how Addy Brown reacts to playing back-to-back games. Articles on how much it takes her to get ready on gameday make me a little skeptical on how her lowerbody/back/whatever** issue will be.

** They have shared almost no information on what her injury is. Fan speculation is lower back, maybe disc.

1) WooHoo! My erroneous post made someone's day. I'll take it. 😉

2) Back injuries are not fun or easy to manage in this sport. Here's hoping things are going well and continue to for Brown.

3) Regarding the tournament itself, I thought I read that the BIG12 will be using a new court, similar to the interactive court FIBA introduced a few years ago. Has anyone else seen details on it?

Ooh, the Big 12 Tourney gives us another helping of heated rivalries Arizona vs. Arizona St. and BYU vs. Utah!

edit--oops, I'm assuming BYU can beat Houston

BYU blazing hot and my worst nightmare ASU plays the kitties for the third time with a 4:30 tip.

Very very challenging to win three consecutive games against your in-state rival. I know the kitties are going to be fired up and I'm wondering how ASU will respond to the heartbreaking gut wrenching loss to BYU.

I'm leaving extra early to get to Vegas so I can watch the game which will end an hour before the UNLV - Boise State contest which is consequential for the Lady Rebs

Sooooo....Pity the Kitty. The Devils hold on for the three sweep.

Tough game......54-51.

Kitty Francous picked up her second flagrant on her 5th PF early in the 5rh and was gently removed from the playing area. She had 7 TO to go with her 7 fouls.

Odds the Devils take out Crooks and company......close to the odds Kim Mulkey schedules B10 and B12 in preseason.

Guessing ASU is headed to Wbit...wonder if they will host first round?

Very happy for the season that both the Kitties had and what a remarkable turnaround Molly created.

I know our resident AZ fan does not like U of A but the vibe is so much more positive than under the prior regime. Her arrogance will not be missed.

As an on-the-spot observer, I think the current coach is much more arrogant than Adia was (at least in her public face). Don't get me wrong - Adia needed to go, but any arrogance was behind the scenes, in insisting on her way without changing with the times. But Becky has insisted on "her way" as well.

I am excited to see what Becky can do with better material. It was so disappointing following a mid-major team pretending to be a Power 4 team this year. I have been watching women's basketball for 30 years, actually followed a team in person that went to 2 final fours, etc - I know what I am watching. Hopefully Becky can do it.

Fans at the opening games have been posting about a lot of players slipping on the gimmicky LED glass floor. Seems to run counter to the claims it is less slippery.

Yeah, pretty disappointing loss for tech. Crème had them as a 5 seed in his latest bracketology. Theoretically could have hosted if they had won this tourney. Obviously that won’t be happening now.

I gotta think they had zero shot at hosting even if they had won the tournament. Fans are enamored with the conference tournaments and all but the committee, not so much. Going by polls they would be the last 5 but NET would make them the last 7. Creme's being too generous. They should be a 6 or 7.
