BIG 12 25-26

…It is playing out like most of us thought #1 SEC has the top teams…
Playing out like some of us thought. Coach Yo’s big game record vs Big Ten’s artificially gamed NET ratings were a movable object vs resistible force showdown somebody had to win, but otherwise about what I suspected of the big ten.

First round of portal transfers has hit Iowa State, four bench players leaving (so far). Roster for next year currently sits at six seniors, a sophomore who never got off the bench and an incoming unranked freshman. Speculation is maybe more defections coming. Regardless of who is added for next season it looks like a completely empty cupboard for 2027. Coach is expected to retire after next season, he'll be 70.

With Addy Brown packing her bags Fennelly is down to six next year seniors, a gal that will probably go back to Belgium and one incoming non-rated freshman. And not sure the melt-down is done, pretty sure it is not.

Edit: Update for EU gal, Freya Jensen, she's entered the portal.

If there are any Texas Tech "experts" out there, please DM me. Have a Q on past years transfers

Okay, maybe like only a dozen Big 12 fans here but does anyone have an explanation why OSU Cowgirls are having a portal exodus of players? An #8 seed was probably disappointing but their overall season was decent.

.-.
Cyclone program Death Watch score: Down to three returning players and only one HS recruit signed.

The ISU AD's statement. A long winded way of saying Fennelly is staying and they have money they're apparently willing to spend, in my opinion.

I think a more likely explanation of his sad defense of the program is that they asked Fennelly to retire (it would have been athletic director malpractice to not ask him to retire) and he told them no unless they promote his son (assistant coach) to head coach. They aren't going to do that so they have to ride out his contract through the end of next season.

For whatever reason cited for Fennelly being back it doesn't change the fact there will be little money invested in WBB for next season. Between retaining and obtaining talent for MBB, and rebuilding after Coach Campbell left for Penn State and took all of the best football players with him, there is no money for WBB beyond a modest stipend. Next year is likely a bottom four finish for Cyclones in the Big 12. They aren't going to pump money into a one year team that will finish in the bottom 1/4 of the conference. It's going to be complete crapfest next season.

"Rest assured, half the rest of our conference is imploding at least as quickly as we are" is maybe not the message he intended to send with this, but it's definitely the one I heard...

Yeah, the fact he included that as part of his statement made me chuckle. "But they're doing it too" is how it came across to me.

That may be the case, but that's not how it came across to me when I listened to it.

Put a pin in this one. Let's see if it's accurate:

Since I'm an ND fan and Notre Dame is mentioned in the article, I wonder that while evaluating Crooks Coach Ivey-who is an all-in effort defensive coach first and foremost - would not like seeing Crooks lack of hustle at times. Defensively, she doesn't seem to be a prototypical defend the rim big.

Secondly, it seems Crooks is a force simply by throwing her the ball on the block, but she better have great hands off of bounce passes, because that's what ND needs from a big, due to HH's ability to penetrate and dish. HH scores a ton of ND's points in half court offense scoring layps, or dishing. So, a big needs to be quick enough to get out of HH's way, and get into position to receive a bounce pass and score.

Wow.

Iowa? They have an All-Big Ten returning as a junior next year.

Oklahoma? Maybe, it's not like Jenny emphasizes defense, she wants to out score people but her current star, Chavez, excels in the open court not in half court slow sets to feed a ball hungry post. .

The rest seems like the guy is just riffing names out. And some of his descriptors of her play lead me to believe he has never actually watched her play in a game, maybe he saw a highlight reel of two.
