My only advice for Bar is that if you're going to get a pie with multiple toppings, get a medium size instead of large because it can be a bit too moist in the middle... Great toppings and always consistently excellent. Enjoy!!!

My wife works in New Haven and they go to Bar quite often for pizza. She, like others, recommends the potato first and then the cheese.

Really good – on par with Sally's & Roseland, a step behind Pepe's & Modern. The mashed potato & bacon was a very good rec, and I'm grateful to everyone who steered me in that direction.

Next time I come up I'm hitting Zuppardi's.

Agree on Modern and Pepe's being the best. Modern can be a bit soupy in the middle sometimes but it doesn't matter, the taste is incredible. That's my favorite pizza place of all time. I don't get why Sally's seems to get a lot more love than Pepe's. Every pie I've ever had from New Haven Pepe's in my life has been excellent and they expanded the right way, IMO. I can't say the same for Sally's.

Zuppardi's is excellent but a bit different. Never had Bar which is weird. Roseland is excellent but haven't had it in many years.

It's kind of lame. And fwiw, I like John's of Bleeker a little better than any of the NH places...

Serious pizza fans already know about New Haven and people that aren't serious aren't going to be sold by this marketing campaign.

Probably not? But you don't think if the message gets out there to the casual fans it won't create interest? Wondering what the fuss is all about?

I just had my first Country Cow BEC and hash browns in 6 months and man did it hit the spot after a 5:30am wake up for a 7am youth hockey game at the Sacred Heart rink.
 
I'm looking forward to Colony Grill opening up in Glastonbury at Somerset Square. It may not be for everyone but there are times that bar pizza just hits the spot. It is my go to spot in Stamford when I'm driving home from NY, easy on and easy off. Hopefully it does better than when they opened in Avon.

I tried the Avon one when it opened, it was just okay flavor-wise and the place seemed like it was yearning to just be a sports bar rather than a restaurant. I don't think it's a model that can be copied and place in other locations.

There are nine of them. Five are within a half hour of the original which makes sense. Avon is no longer listed on their website.

The others are two in DC burbs and two in the Tampa Bay area.

My issue with Colony expanding is that you simply cannot duplicate the atmosphere of the original. It was a cop bar with cheap unique pizza and beer served in juice glasses by colorful characters. It catered to softball teams, day drinkers, working stiffs, and was also a necessary stop for any mayor on St. Patrick's Day. And the "No Stags Allowed" sign over the entrance to the dining room. The newer locations are simply bars.

That is what pizza looks like in Italy, and while it continues to move closer to what we make here, their pizza is still a bit behind.
