OT: Best Pizza in CT

Has anyone been to Mango's in Mystic? It's 15 on the State's pizza trail list. I have to be up in Stonington this weekend and looking for some decent pizza. I scrolled through the thread here, and seemed like people aren't too impressed with Mystic Pizza or the other area offerings.
I can say that Mystic Pizza is pricy and pretty average. No idea about Mango. I can say there's a place in Westerly, RI that makes a killer shrimp pizza, its called the Pizza Place.

Hey guys, I'll be in CT for about a week to start November. My gf will be visiting the USA for the first time and of course she needs to try New Haven pizza. I haven't had pizza from New Haven in years myself so not sure what the current state of pizza is in the city. I have one shot to wow her with NH pizza and I've heard mixed reviews about how Sally's currently is. Is Pepes still my best bet? Modern? I'd like to pick a place that's also been around for a long time.

Mystic Pizza is awful. It's a tourist trap. Mango's blows Mystic Pizza out of the water.

Honestly you can't go wrong with Sally's, Pepe's or Modern. They all are essentially the same recipe and the ovens are similar as well. Pepe's was first, then came Modern a year later and about 4 or 5 years after Pepe's started then one of the relatives of Pepe's broke away and did their own business called Sally's. I think even the yeast is related. Anyone who says Pepe's or Sally's is terrible is just promoting their own agenda. I personally enjoy Modern the most but they are all so very similar. You can even go to West Haven and hit up Little Rendezvous. Those are the big 4. All are incredible.

Tell @Fishy that.

I had Pepe's at Mohegan Sun on Monday. Only NH pizza I've had in a decade or more. It was quite good this time. I know it can be rather variable, but this time it lived up to the name.

Pepe's is great, but sometimes it's very overrated. Same goes for Sally's.

I did as well. Only complaint was it wasn't as done as a standard Pepe's (understandable considering the line). I tried explaining in advance the char to a few people with us who never had New Haven pizza so they wouldn't think thepie was burnt. The finished products had absolutely no char on them.

The pizza was still very good (and likely a better way to ease newbies into NH apizza) but it wasn't the full Pepe's.

Oddly mine was maybe a hair overdone. You could play ping pong with a slice. Last time I had Pepe's at Mohegan (long ago) it was undercooked.

That's the problem. Sometimes it's overdone, then other times it's undercooked. Unless it's perfect.

Little Rendezvous is in Meriden - not West Haven. Zuppardi’s is in West Haven (which may fall into the “big 4 category).

You can’t do wrong with either of the Modern, Sally, Pepe trifecta but first time in US, I’d go for Sally’s or Pepe’s for the Wooster Street vibe. You can wander down the street and grab dessert (to-go) from Libby’s Italian Pastry ( w/ espresso, cappuccino and gelato) as a topper.
