We need to omit all beers that have berries ,apples lemonade or are made to taste like a Christmas cookie. These are only there to make girls drink and they should not e associated with football

I agree some of it can be pretty disgusting, the lemon summer shandy "beers" especially come to mind, and I nearly gagged on some watermelon IPA I tried once. But there are a lot of fruity wheat beers that are quite tasty where the fruit flavor doesn't overpower but compliments the beer. Long Trail Blackberry Wheat is one of my favorites, and I have always enjoyed Sam Adams Cherry Wheat (and black and tan made with this and Guinness is excellent. Magic Hat #9, while not a wheat beer, has a subtle apricot flavor which is surprisingly good. Even plain wheat beer like Blue Moon, Shock Top, and Hoegarden all have distinct citrus notes. When at the beach, on the golf course, or at a game, I would much rather drink one of these wheat beers (fruity or not) than crappy domestic light beer. It also helps now that a lot of these beers are now available in cans which makes them a lot easier to bring to outdoor activities. If drinking domestic, I prefer Yuengling which I pick up anytime I drive through NY since its not distributed in CT. All that said, some of my favorite beers have been my homemade ones, an oatmeal stout and red ale I have made were excellent if I do say so myself.

Two new good Connecticut beers to try from Stony Creek Beer Company in Branford:
203 and 860 IPA
203 Lager

My brother-in-law started the beer company last year. My tailgate will obviously have both of these all season. Check them out.

Available likely in a package store near you.

A friend of mine's family has a place in Stony Creek, NY. First time we saw Stony Creek 860 IPA at the store we were super excited.

Pumpkinhead is kick ass just had it
We toured the brewery years ago and came home ready to try the Pumpkinhead. Was refreshing until I tried the competition. Not so good anymore. I don't go for the Pumpkins much anymore but Dogfish Head Punkin Ale is great.

I drank Curous Traveler Summer Shandy's all summer and was very satiated. Now going back to my tried and true Modelo Especials.

Don't waste any energy worrying about what anyone else is drinking. Too many good choice for what you do enjoy.

Me? I'm not a big IPA guy and the older I get the less I enjoy stouts. I'm more of an ale, pilsner and wietbier kind of person. But I enjoy reading what others enjoy.

Fat Tire, a beer that anyone who's drank a few on the west coast knows about, is showing up more along the east coast. A friend said they opened up another brewery in the Carolinas.

I've had a few and enjoy them. I don't go out of my way to find it (although my sister in law does). Interesting that it's only available in liquor stores or in bar/restaurants in the 22 ounce bottle. None on tap and no 6 or 12 packs yet.

Balance and approachability are the beer’s hallmarks. This auburn brew sports a bright white head that fades kind of quickly but leaves nice lacing behind in the glass. Scents are bready and sweet; honey-glazed biscuit, wet grain, caramel and a hint of herbal hops. Speaking of, the Willamette, Goldings and Target hops all do their job here, keeping the beer’s sweet and earthy notes up front with minimal bitterness, allowing the malt to be the centerpiece. It finishes light and crisp while the 5.2 percent alcohol by volume maintains a session quality.

Chin- Fat Tire is most definitely available in 6 packs at a number of grocery stores (Food Lion, Harris Teeter) within 5 miles of Surf City North Carolina. I was able to sample Fat Tire Amber Ale, Ranger IPA, and Shift Pale Lager (in a can) over the course of our 1 week stay on Topsail Island. My buddy and I tried to sample as many local and exotic beers as we could in our short stay ... and I think we did pretty well!

One beer I especially took a liking to was Bell's Brewery Two Hearted Ale out of Comstock Michigan ... not sure if it was mentioned in any of the previous posts.

Oh yeah ... the Capitol Ale House in Richmond Virginia has an ice strip built into the top of the bar to keep your beverage cool ... can't say I've ever seen that before!

I was also on Topsail for a week this summer. Our 20th summer in a row spending a week there. First year was back in 1993. The island has gone under crazy changes every year since the early 2000's.

The mention of no 6-packs was in reference to the Florida panhandle where the article was written.

I have reading comprehension problems when I read your posts! I thought you were stating no 6 packs anywhere on the east coast.

I've only been 4 years in a row now ... last three in surf city. The kids like the ability to walk to get lunch, ice cream, and beach gear. The adults like the ability to walk to the bars, restaurants, and liquor stores. The webcam at surfchex.com is about 100 yards from where we stayed. I like just about everything about Topsail except waiting for the swing bridge at the top of the hour...

A Kosher Beer? Who Knew?

http://www.pnj.com/article/20130821/ENTERTAINMENT05/308210001/Beer-garden-Drink-life-Rejewvenator

Enter Schmaltz Brewing Co. They created a beverage that pays homage to many things at once; religious monks who made much of ancient history’s beer and the myriad ingredients referenced in the world’s religious writings. Throw in a dose of Jerry Seinfeld humor and a lot of chutzpah, and you have the He’Brew Rejewvenator.
An ultra-malty hybrid of Belgian dubbel and German dopplebock — interestingly enough, both words meaning “double” — Rejewvenator is dosed with dates and figs to bring a natural earthiness and sweetness to enhance the sugars already found in the grain. This is a pretty copper-red brew with a bubbly, tall head that takes its time receding. The list of flavors and scents this beer possesses rivals the size of Abraham’s lineage and all whom he begat; toffee, fresh bread, dried fruit, cinnamon, cocoa, caramel, biscuit, nuts, raisins and the already-mentioned figs and dates.
This incredibly abundant beverage is equal parts manna and Promised Land. L’Chaim!

He'Brew has an anniversary ale that each year adds one more hop and malt variety, and I think another point of alcohol.

It's........strong now. I think they're up to 16 or 17.

After a few decades of microbrew snobbery, I've reformed and whittled my default beer choices as follows.

Draught: Guinness Stout
Bottle: Molson Canadian
Can: PBR
Light: Sam Adams Light

If they are not available the contingency protocol is as follows:

1. Whatever is offered to me for free.
2. Whichever is closest.

Love a lot of the microbrews, anything made by Three Floyd's is a favorite but when it comes down to it nothing gets better than a great Guinness pour. Find myself always drinking a lot of Negro Modelos in the summertime as well.

Back on topic to things we can enjoy.

Founder's Brewery out of Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Some brewers just seem to get it right every time, every batch. Their vision and skill are such that their beer is pretty close to perfect. Like being born into royalty, enjoying a life of privilege, such it is to be a beer from Founders.
This Grand Rapids, Mich., brewery is one of the few craft beer creators consistently ranked in the Top 10 in the United States. Along with Cigar City Hunapu and Three Floyds Dark Lord, Founders’ Kentucky Breakfast Stout is, arguably, one of the five most anticipated single-day, brewery-sold-only releases on the planet. Folks line up the day before like they were camping out for Rolling Stones tickets ... all for the glory of procuring two bottles of Bourbon barrel-aged nectar. That, my friends, is a good beer.
How is it these guys get it? What separates Founders’ brewers from any other on the planet? How can they take the same ingredients available to everyone else and manage to coax liquid magic out of them?
Short answer: I don’t know. Why was there only one Michelangelo, one John Coltrane ... heck, only one Kurt Vonnegut?

I'm trying this out for Saturday against Cincy. Along with my own homemade version of skyline chili.

Established in 1888, the brewery continued to grow, and by the 1930s, it was one of the state’s largest. It managed to survive the destruction of World War II and resumed a thriving business. To this day, Flensburger is one of Germany’s last breweries not to be owned by a conglomerate — totally independent despite being distributed country-wide. Most breweries in Germany supply only their town or a surrounding region. Flensburger covers the entire country and does it on its own steam.

Nowadays, they access what is — to me, at least — one of its neatest features: a water well drawing from an underground supply of Scandinavian Ice Age water. Imagine … pristine, totally unpolluted, rock-filtered water from more than 10,000 years ago goes into their beer. That’s quality!

Flensburger Dunkel sports a dark amber color and a clunky head that quickly recedes into a white film leaving behind spider web lacing. Scents of wheat bread and hazelnut shells mingle with caramel and tea leaf. Toasty bread crust, light toffee, biscuit, hints of coffee and nuts hold back the faintest trace of hop bitterness without being out of balance on the sweet side. The carbonation is lively with a moderately creamy-slick feel and a nice, clean finish.
