With USC and UCLA, I don't think the B10 is looking to cut travel miles. They're not adding weak additions like Syracuse or BC. UConn is marginal but the only school north of Virginia/Kentucky/Missouri/Kansas/Colorado that makes sense, save Notre Dame.

Northwestern, Stanford, Vanderbilt, Rice and Duke will all eventually decide they don't want to be minor league football programs. They don't need the money, and they will decide at some point that they don't want the baggage.

I don't know what BCU will do when those dominoes start falling, because they aren't really a super-elite school academically.

It depends what’s asked of them. Right now, it’s free money for them. TV money, money from alums, and poaching some kids from similar academic colleagues because they have big time sports. NIL isn’t really a big deal. Their alums will either want to pay, or not. As long as the conferences don’t mandate NIL/salary minimums or something that could taint their academics, I don’t see why they’d walk away. And I don’t think any will be kicked out even if they do nothing with NIL and perform terribly.

You missed my entire point regarding a school having travel mates not a conference cutting miles. BTW, none of the schools you mentioned would pair w/Uconn to enter the B10.

I think some of the elite schools will not want to affiliate with institutions that have renegade programs of "student athletes" that basically have no affiliation with the underlying schools beyond wearing a uniform with the university logo on it. Northwestern, et al, will never be willing to do what it takes to truly compete with an Ohio State or Alabama in football or basketball, and with so much money swirling around, they might be able to make decent money breaking off and doing their own thing.

I would dearly love for BCU to throw in the towel and leave the ACC. Moving to the Big East would be a great opportunity. A great opportunity for UConn to blackball them and let them twist in the wind.

Correct me if I’m wrong but I believe Pitt, Cuse, and BC are losing more money now on athletics than they were prior to joining the ACC. Running a high major athletics department takes a lot of work and it’s insanely expensive.

I can't comment on Cuse or BC, but prior to ACC, Pitt was considering dropping some sports. Now they're not. And their women's sports, which are basically all money-losers are doing quite well. Football posts a decent profit, men's hoops a small windfall - between the two about $8 mill in the black. Their accounting for all athletics shows they broke even, as most non-profits do.
 
Could BC be making noise, because they want a travel partner in the ACC? (UConn)

A 4th Eastern Team, if UConn joins, to pair with Maryland and Rutgers? Why wouldn’t they just invite Penn State?

Besides Michigan and Ohio State, the BIG is sorta trash everywhere. UConn immediately makes them better in basketball and probably in football too cause some of those teams are embarrassing.

Institutionally, BC is a better fit for the Big East than we are. That being said, we're a better fit for the ACC than they ever were.
