BC Post Game Thread

I was popping in and out during the game and AK missed every shot I saw him take.
And yet he shot a better percentage from three than anyone else. 3-10. That's how bad they were from three tonight. Ball isn't going to go 1-8 too often. Or Mullins 2-7. Or Stewart 1-5.

If that is our backup point guard and backup backup point guard, that problem has obviously been fixed. 9 pts. 9 assists, 1 turnover.

I doubt we see many other games where Ball, Karaban and Mullins go 6 - 25 (24%).

Reibe is a lot stronger than I thought and definitely has some BB IQ. Reed and he will be a really solid duo - better than last year.

Definitely need to cut down the fouls - that was the big problem tonight (and last year). That may have something to do with Reed out. Easier to attack the paint.

The depth will definitely challenge some teams.

Calm down on offense and hit those open looks, play that intense defense without fouling and we're going places.

On Reibe, for the first year and a half of Clingans career I hear " you're seven feet tall, dunk the ball" everytime he missed a bunny at the rim from the guy who sits behind me. I can expect to be hearing that again.

I went to a wake tonight so I heard the beginning on the radio. What did they say about Tarris's injury. The radio said Demery was day to day and Reed was out indefinitely with a hamstring injury.

Plus Ross looked very solid and like the player we hoped he would be - at least in flashes.
Reibe solid
Mullins a stud
Back up guard came to play - nice addition to the team!

Minus Colum?

Team stank it up from outside and missed so many shots. Woefully painful to watch at times.

The mojo wasn’t there and offensively - clank, clank, clank and not what I was expecting from this group. Solo was not where I thought he would be in terms of shots going down and seemed to get beat off dribble quite a bit.

Hopefully just them getting the dust off.

No reason to be overly concerned but I didn’t come away thinking this looked like a top 5 team.

But again it doesn’t matter - exhibition game…

Game went as expected.. flashes from Mullins & Reibe & the usually production from Karaban… not bothered by the lack of attacks on the rim on drives bc that will come from Silas & Reed will feast on the post which will get us FT attempts … I was hoping to see some more of the Euro kid seeing that Reed was out & I wanted to see Reibe on a few p&f plays maybe even attempt a 3… Stew looks slot more confident & I love Ross’s energy

All in all good reps for the guys as a tune up

I thought Reibe did not show much hops when he had the ball down low. As a freshman at 7'1" and 260 maybe this is to be expected but a little elevation would help his game inside. Had many lineup combinations tonight and most looked good. We have a very athletic team. The shooting from deep needs to be better. Remember our poor 3 point shooting (Karaban, Solo, and McNeeley) led to the loss against Florida last year. Tonight was a nice start while missing 2 starting players. It gave minutes to players who needed to show their value.

Am i the only one who saw Jim Calhoun ? I saw before the game , but didnt see him seated anywhere

In that 15-1 run where Uconn went from down 3 to up 12 Ross was guarding Hand. He completely shut down BC's best player. Nobody else on UConn was able to do that. The best everyone else could do was foul Hand.
Almost like he has the ability to be our best defender or something.

“Eye test said it was better,” Hurley said. “We have to get better there. It sucked the season last year, just our perimeter defense. Solo wants to be good on defense, he just needs to get back to playing more athletic at that end of the court. But I do think the team’s got the potential with Tarris and Silas in there, with the bench depth and everything that we got, to really be a team that turns people over a lot and pressures people and is more disruptive.”

What we learned from UConn men’s basketball’s exhibition win over Boston College

We’re going 11 maybe 12 deep this year and the 12th man is prob Furphy

Rebounding needs work. Reibe needs to dunk and play stronger. Smith is a very good back up point guard. Our fast break looks better organized. We got lots of good looks but really need to take the ball to the basket more and more effectively when we do. Maybe Demary can be that player. Has Mullins ever missed a free throw? Kid looks pretty good. Lots to feel good about.

The best rebounder on the team wasn't playing. And Demary is no slouch on the boards

I think we see the Furphy dividends next year
Seems like it right now. The “Js” are clearly ahead of him. Maybe we’ll see by the end of the year if he passes either of them.

The healthy 9 are:

Demary/Ball/Mullins/Karaban/Reed

Smith/Ross/Stew/Reibe

Furphy might get some minutes in wide margin situations, nobody else is touching the floor in competitive games.
