I think Koroma gets some run
And Alec
Yup the 10th and 11th guys just not in that order. Koroma is going to play if/when Reed and Reibe are in foul trouble. Smith is going to be more than a sixth man wouldn’t be surprised if he averages more PT than Mullins. Gonna see lots of 2 PG lineups so I see PT available for Millender.

Like the PG depth. Like Reibe backing up this year and his potential over the next few years. Mullins was nervous first half but settled down later and is going to be good. Like Koroma comign off the bench. Boards and plays D and brings energy

Man, good to see this team hit the floor. Could tell both teams were excited to play another opponent and played hard for an exhibition game.

The Good

Reibe looks ready. Staff showing once again they know how to bring along a big and he’s going to make for a great backup behind Reed.

Our guard depth looks fantastic. Smith and Alec off the bench for Demary will pay a lot of dividends.

Solo’s finishing looks much improved and Braylon looks as advertised shooting wise and ability to move off ball.

A lot of transition today which with how good our defense is should be great.

Not So Good

Karaban and Stew look like mostly the same players. Karaban looks inconsistent on high volume again. Stew showed flashes offensively while being treacherous defensively.

Not sure how much Solo’s guard skills improved. His handles still looks kind of shaky today. Didn’t seem to attack comfortably.

Way too many threes. Would like to see us be able to attack more and not settle for the first slightly open look we get.

Ross Thoughts

Played like he didn’t believe he’s a D1 basketball player the first half. 2nd half was much better and he looks great when he’s actually decisive and believes he can be a D1 basketball player. It’s literally just mental. The pull up was so smooth. +26 and looks like our best perimeter defender. Hope he can keep building on this and plays like he thinks he’s a D1 player.

Overall

Getting more shots in the paint that results in fouls should naturally be fixed by getting Demary (could be our best attacker) and Reed back. Outside of that im excited about our depth.

Hoping to see either Mullins improve defensively or Ross to play like he thinks he’s a D1 player. Hurley may just be playing the hot hand in a lot of games between those 2 and Stew this season.

Because when he’s standing out there on the court, he looks like a small unathletic little kid.

But then you watch him at game speed, and it’s clear he’s athletic. Sneaky athleticism. Duh

Billy McCaffery from dook in the 90's vibe.

Dude, he's not playing an 11 man rotation this season. Mullins isn't only playing 20 mpg and Solo isn't only playing 25 mpg.

He never has an 11 man rotation and the strength of this team is their great top 6 players.

Didn’t watch game. Ugly box score. Hope Reed and Demary get healthy soon.

BC has 12 losing seasons in last 15 years didn’t expect them to put up much of a fight.

I discounted all the pre-season hype after we over-glorified the new players last season but I still couldn’t help but be a bit disappointed since this was basement-dweller BC we were playing.

Reibe is legit. Just needs to take his time on the bunnies.
Smith is an excellent solution to the backup point guard problem we had last year.
OK, I’ll say it. Mullins will be McNeeley or better.
The massive leaps I read about for Alex, Stewie and Ross didn’t show last night. Only Ross seemed to improve (in the second half) with his poise, ball handling and drives. Having said that, we are gonna need these big bodies against teams like St. Johns because Furphy isn’t ready yet.
The depth is awesome and even the 4th string center Rrezon had a nice swat at the end.
The reality is Hurley is playing 10 at most this year and I want to see total domination over the likes of BC. Looking forward to Tarris and Silas returning.

Surprised a few here thought Alex didn’t play that well. I thought he was the best player on the court. It took a while for his 3s to drop but he filled up the stat sheet. 17/11/4 with 2 blocks.

Not much to take away from an exhibition against BC especially with Tarris and Demary out. So many missed layups and threes, D looked elite for most of the first half.

Jayden looked totally lost in the first half but may have been our best player in the second half. I really hope the light bulb flicks on for him this season and he becomes a valuable rotation player because Jayden and Braylon are the closest thing we have to elite athletes on this team. I know I keep harping on it but this is not an athletic team by our standards. I do think our defense is going to be way better than last season with Braylon, Silas, and Malachi D'ing up on the perimeter.
Solo was the only one who didnt look elite - maybe serviceable. Ross on the other hand had the best +/- at 26. He looked much better when given extended time in the second half.

And he was a coach out there all game. He made a couple calls before the ref did and was clearly the smartest player on the court.

I went to a wake tonight so I heard the beginning on the radio. What did they say about Tarris's injury. The radio said Demery was day to day and Reed was out indefinitely with a hamstring injury.
They have already said he's out for Mich St and hoping for Nov 3

I would bet any amount of money in the world we're not playing an 11 or 12 man rotation

Felt like I was watching last years film with a few new players. At times defense wasn’t great by Solo or Stew. Too many 3’s but am excited about Reibe. Mullins needs to hit the weight room he will be bullied in conference play.

Anyone being even the least bit critical of Reibe this morning forgets the days of young Travis Knight or Justin Brown. This kids game checks all the boxes.
The young Justin Brown never turned into anything.

.-.
Bunch of people saying we’re over reliant on 3s, but just about every 3 tonight came off good or great ball movement or were just wide open looks.

Those are great shots that we want to get. They will fall at a much higher clip in the regular season.
Not this again

I also think the amount of smart experienced players is going to be a major plus factor for us all season and hopefully post season. It showed last night when BC went up by 3 or 4 about 8 minutes into the half and we couldn't buy a basket, Smith took it to the rim (so easily it seemed that he could have done it all night) followed by an offensive rebound by Koroma leading to a layup. After that we built the lead to 20 points

We’re going 11 maybe 12 deep this year and the 12th man is prob Furphy
Well, if he can make a higher percentage of shots, I mean I think Alex was one for nine at one point we might need him. He looks like he can knock him down but again we’re seeing what happens in games and no knock on Alex but sometimes he does go ice cold. Not saying take Alex off the floor, but we do need people that can come in and score. I thought a back up guy looked phenomenal.

My takeaways. I wouldn't overanalyze a scrimmage as the offense looked like a work in progress, but I thought the defense looked much better than last year. I saw BC play a few times last year and they are better than last year, but I don't think they are good. I think Reed would have eaten BC up inside if he played and it would have opened up shooters even more.

Clearly more depth on this year's team than last year. Reibe looks good for a freshman big and he should be a solid backup C this year. Mullins is as advertised, but he made freshman mistakes on D. Ross had a great defensive game as he was +26 and he will have a role on this team. Karaban played great, but his 3 point shot was off and we need him to be more efficient. Smith is a great addition to the team as he has the ability to start at PG. Pleasantly surprised by Koroma and Millender. Stewart is an athletic energy guy, but it didn't seem like they set him up on offense. Not enough playing time to evaluate Furphy.

I agree. Aside from shooting, he was excellent.

But you can't shoot that many times and miss that often.
Alex, please holster the 25 footers.
Aside from that, he's going to be a magic wand for this team. Leader of the band. Top of the charts. The Maestro.

Post-game analysis that draws any hard conclusions of early preseason scrimmages are why secret ones existed for so long. It's basketball, so that's exciting, and the coaches even admitted some things were good- which is huge for a staff that likes to play up the negative.

Malachi was born to play for UConn. Shout out to the transfer rules!
