Just a wild stat.
The competition in women's basketball is utterly terrible, especially when he started his career. Despite being the best ever, you really only have to worry about a handful of games every year. Here’s another stat that sounds fake but its true. Geno is now 1149-149 in his career. He’s 1000 games above .500
Like…what?!?
First off, I disagree with your statement, womens basketball has seen a lot of parity over the last decade, but per your point, if it’s that easy shouldn’t more teams be able to figure out the formula? La Tech and Tennessee were both dominant for years, but couldn’t sustain. SC seems like they’ve been dominant forever, but yet this is only their second title game in program history. To be a CT basketball fan and not appreciate what Geno has done and basically have the “anyone could do it” mentality doesnt make you a basketball fan.The competition in women's basketball is utterly terrible, especially when he started his career. How easy is it to have huge run streaks and beat almost all opponents game after game without losing focus or just have a bad shooting night? Especially when all of the opponents circle the date and play like it’s their personal Final Four game. The competition in women's basketball is utterly terrible, especially when he started his career. I don’t get this take. If it was terrible, it was terrible for everyone including UConn. He had to separate the school and then hold that advantage for decades with other schools doing everything they could to catch up.The competition in women's basketball is utterly terrible, especially when he started his career. The crazy thing about that 15-0 stat is that all happened over the course of the last 27 years.
Depends on the quality of the opponent, and in this case it is very poor. How easy is it to have huge run streaks and beat almost all opponents game after game without losing focus or just have a bad shooting night? “It’s so easy nobody else has been able to do it” - CTBasketball doing his best Yogi Berra impression.Depends on the quality of the opponent, and in this case it is very poor.
The women had a 111 game win streak. 29 of those games were vs ranked teams, 9 were against top 5 teams.Depends on the quality of the opponent, and in this case it is very poor.
You clearly haven't paid attention to women's college basketball for the last 10-15 years if not longerDepends on the quality of the opponent, and in this case it is very poor.
Geno has won in every decade so even when the competition got better he still winningThe competition in women's basketball is utterly terrible, especially when he started his career. Despite being the best ever, you really only have to worry about a handful of games every year.
He, as is K, was a big time cheater. We've been extremely blessed (both teams) when we get to the biggest stage. Only thing comparable to that is UCLA's run in the Wooden era. (Ten NC game wins in 12 years without a loss)
To win the NC, all they have to do is beat three #1 seeds in a row.Depends on the quality of the opponent, and in this case it is very poor.

I think I recall that Arizona did that in the men's tournament, and at that time it was the only time it had been done.To win the NC, all they have to do is beat three #1 seeds in a row.
That's all.![]()
I think it has been done a few times on the women's side because historically lower seeds didn't have much chance to advance to the final four. Even with today's supposed increased parity in the game, 3 of the 4 #1 seeds still made it.I think I recall that Arizona did that in the men's tournament, and at that time it was the only time it had been done.
The game has improved immensely and the impact of more quality players is leveling the field. Though, there are significant gaps between a handful of teams and the rest. Geno built his own success and he dominates a niche pond. It would have been interesting to see if he could have translated his success Into mens basketball. My guess is he would be one of the better coaches, though he could never have built a dynasty like he has. There is just too much competition and talent in mens basketball. He should be rightly appreciated for his teams’ amazing accomplishments over decades.First off, I disagree with your statement, womens basketball has seen a lot of parity over the last decade, but per your point, if it’s that easy shouldn’t more teams be able to figure out the formula? He said he’d never coach a men’s college team because of 1. The sneaker companies, agents, and posses and 2. Recruiting is a lot harder and 3. The competition was pretty significant, actually. Within 15 years of his first Final Four in 1991 he surpassed several historical powers, most notably Tennessee. He turned back several challengers, e.g. Notre Dame and Stanford. The competition in women's basketball is utterly terrible, especially when he started his career. He created Notre Dame as a challenger. And Louisville after that. Nobody was going to Notre Dame for women’s hoops until they sold it as a chance to play UConn twice a year. Watch the Big East now. Somebody is going to emerge for the same reason. Tennessee yes, was legit as a rival, as Stanford has been and now South Carolina. But it’s nothing like the men’s level of competition. The competition was pretty significant, actually. South Carolina is the latest program that has a chance.
