B1G 25-26

The Terps pretty much don't have a choice since the other two frontcourt players (Williams and Momodu) don't see to be ready right now. The Terps have a light schedule with only one ranked team scheduled and tons of home games. So hopefully they can develop.
Ah. Appreciate the insight. At the same time, this could be good for Garzon as it will show her versatility.

Hate to see a player leave a program but it is understandable. Gopher player (Mallory Heyer) enters the portal. Wishing you all the best, Mallory.

It's a bit of a head scratcher, especially the timing which is peculiar and not great for the team days away from starting the season. She started every game the last three seasons (102 straight games) and played 30 minutes a game last season and announces leaving the team after their scrimmage with Kansas State. Nobody on the Gopher fan forum seems to have a clue why she left other than one "I know but I'm not going to tell" guy (there is always one of those fans).

I think this is a solid list, but confused about Okananwa making the cut. Is it me or did McKeown make an error here?

I'd move Kneepkens up, both of the Huskies should easily be ahead of Londynn Jones. She's not half the player either of them are. Overall decent list but a few of these are bonkers. Jacquez is like the ultimate glue player, but she's too high on this list. Prince should be moved up.

Cripes. I missed Kneepens. How does she make the list when she played for Utah last season? I took returning to be mean players who played in the BIG10 last season.

Well, she is a returning player. Just not for UCLA, and not in the Big 10...

Anyone know why Rice didn't start last night for UCLA?
Close said she was on a minutes restriction just a few days ago and has been trying to catch back up, which made it sound like a temporary arrangement.

I’d be in the second column of that graphic before I listed Rice though. Very solid player but I think both UCLA’s starting guards are more dynamic.

FWIW I also don’t get the Yarden Garzon hype.

Maybe Close is going to be experimenting w/ starting lineups for a while. 4 guards started today, with Dugalic coming off the bench.

Swords and Howell getting some time to train with the National team. With the camp running Nov 9 - Nov 19, my guess is that both players will be back by the end of the first week of camp.

"While the full roster will take part in camp, Delaney Gibb (Raymond, Alta.), Syla Swords (Sudbury, Ont.), Jasmine Bascoe (Milton, Ont.) and Avery Howell (Boise, Idaho) will participate in the opening portion before returning to their NCAA programs as their collegiate seasons begin — a reflection of their ongoing commitment to Canada’s national team pathway."

Maryland is going through Freaky Friday. Saylor P., a career 30% three point shooter is 6-7 from distance after two games and has only missed one shot all season.

Garzon a career 40% shooter is shooting 20% from distance.

Michigan has a nice "Big 3" developing with the Swords, Holloway, and Olson. They looked sharp against Harvard. A good balanced attack by those three. Last season Holloway was not looking to shoot as much. I mean she had moments but nothing like she is showing so far this season for Michigan and Coach KBA. Looking forward to seeing what happens against Notre Dame in a few days.

Had thought Swords and Howell would be in BC with the Canadian national team by now. As both played recently, I wonder if they're even going to attend the training camp. Especially in Michigan's case with the game against Notre Dame.

Another thing to monitor are minutes per game with those three. I know they're going to be relied upon but seeing Swords playing 30 minutes already makes me nervous.

Well, they're definitely in BC now per this Canada Basketball post on IG.

I'm curious why they hold the camp after the college season starts. That's a pretty tough choice to force on the players, and though the college coaches are not likely to complain publicly, I can't imagine they appreciate the disruption to their teams. I suspect there is some logic to it that I'm not grasping.

The camp dates are outside of Canada Basketball's control as they're in line with the FIBA qualifying tournaments.

With respect to forcing players, that's an incorrect assumption. They voluntarily chose to be included in the pool of athletes that would be considered for FIBA qualifications tournaments. From what I understand with people familiar with Canada Basketball's plan was that they were upfront with the athletes as to the expectations and commitment required. Their college coaches had to have been on board for it to happen.

Per the article below when Fortner was hired, you'll notice athletes like Cass Prosper, Toby Fournier and Laeticia Amihere are not listed. Makeer and Lattimore are on the list, however they haven't attended any of the camps to date. Whether they're in college or a professional, they have the choice to decline.

"Force" was a poor choice of words on my part. I just meant the timing is such that the players make a choice whether to leave their teams for the camp or not. Your note that the camp schedule is in line with FIBA's qualifying tournaments is the bit of logic I was missing. FIBA is obviously an international organization with scheduling concerns beyond NCAA basketball. Thanks for the info.

By the way, is Savvy Swords bigger than her sister? She looks considerably bigger in the photo, but it could be just the angle. I haven't seen Savvy play, but Syla is one of my favorite players to watch. Love her game.

Hopefully, Coach can keep Swords minutes under 30, which I am sure will happen given the depth and overall talent on this Michigan roster. There are some DAWGS on this roster that have that competitive fire with some serious talent. We shall see what develops.

Yes she is but not by much. Her style is more of a wing/slasher compared to Syla from what I've seen of her.

I'm more concerned about overall health, especially with how many times she represented Canada over the summer between the Senior and U19 teams. Sure she's young, but it does add to wear and tear.

Just to be safe, I think coach should rest Syla for the January 19 game. Olson, too, for that matter. You can't be too careful. 😇

And this is why I love the General Board.................🥰🥰🥰

Back to basketball. Noticed Marquette visits Minnesota tonight at 8 pm EST. Could be an interesting game on BIG10+ for those who have it.
