Sources: Syracuse is targeting Toledo’s Bryan Blair as the school’s new athletic director, with a deal expected in the near future. Blair has been the AD at Toledo since 2022 and has previous stops at Washington State (Deputy AD/COO), Rice and South Carolina.
They are trying to be more like us.
The problems at Syracuse are not just related to coaching basketball. They need to revamp the whole program, everything from NIL to analytics. Here's a fun fact: How many times has Syracuse played in MSG in the past 8 years? Once! How does the AD at Syracuse let that happen? They should be playing a game at MSG every year.I agree and disagree. If you are Murray or Young, you probably won't do any better than Cuse. They've struggled and everything else, but that's a team that has a major history. Why go and win at a mid-major or something so that you can get a bottom-feeder job at one of the power conferences and get fired in three years? Syracuse basketball still carries some weight, and I think it would be an easier rebuild there than going to a Rutgers-type school.
Bigger name to fans who've been around a long time, but anyone under 30 probably has no idea they once were a power in the best basketball conference during the 80's to the breakup. What bigger name programs are out there that need a coach? How many programs are a bigger name than Syracuse in all of college basketball?
The question would be whether you think you can actually be successful at Syracuse. If you don't believe the pieces are in place to allow you to be successful then why take a high profile failure? If you are Murray or Young, you probably won't do any better than Cuse. That's an interesting question. I'm not 100% convinced that Syracuse is a better job, notwithstanding its history under Beoheim. Rutgers is in the Big Ten, obviously a better conference than the ACC, particularly in conference payout. They've also recently shown decent NIL support. The right coach might be able to make something happen there, though, it's always foolish to underestimate Rutgers ability to find a way to fail.I think it would be an easier rebuild there than going to a Rutgers-type school
Honestly, that's not the worst idea. I've heard floated. Sure, he didn't exactly light the world on fire at Arizona State, but Syracuse isn't all that great a job. It lets Hurley reestablish himself on the East Coast, where he has better connections, albeit in Canada, and let's Syracuse look like they're a desirable job that attracts high profile, or at least well-known, candidates.Good ol Dookie V advocating for Bobby Hurley to get the job on twitter. Would be hilarious to watch the complete meltdown on their board.
It’s a calculated risk, but I’d go Cuse for sure. There’s still a lot you can sell, repair some relationships, etc.The question would be whether you think you can actually be successful at Syracuse. That would be a big win for PC.Jeff Goodman thinks when it's all said and done Gerry McNamara will be Cuse's coach and Bryan Hodgson will be Providence's coach.
I 100% agree. Just was saying Luke and Kimani should take that if offered over purposely looking Mid-Major and bounce to somewhere more “stable,”I can't see Cuse hiring Murray. He would need to be a proven head coach first to get a big job like that. Cuse needs to hire someone that's already proven to be a winning head coach. GMac fits that description.
Murray and young should be looking for high mid major jobs or lower level power school jobs. Syracuse is too big for a first head coaching job. Syracuse needs to get this right, they can't take that chance.
No one should ever take seriously anything said by Jeff Goodman. Ever.Jeff Goodman thinks when it's all said and done Gerry McNamara will be Cuse's coach and Bryan Hodgson will be Providence's coach.
Why, is the EO Smith job open?Is Tyler Olander coaching?
Wasn’t the unlamented Paul Pasqualoni a Cheshire guy? They need to name a new AD before they name a new coach. Rumors of Nick Carparelli taking the job. Cheshire guy. WPI guy then Syracuse grad school
Have to let the new AD make the decision.
The board is all over the place. New AD is thought of as a football first guy. The board goes from Murray to Jay Wright and everyone in between. Whoever SU gets. He will need 8 to 12 new players. Ahh, the black hole of irrelevancy.I think Syracuse is limited to a Luke/GMac type of hire or a retread who got fired somewhere else. Similar to Sampson, Motta or even Hurley. Would Pitino JR be on the list? I would think so as an up and comer type. Is Syracuse>Marquette?
That and a world class facility are advantages but money trumps all. Head coach is a crazy job. Drove icons out early, Bennett, Wight, guys who could get any job they want, are great coaches, not old men and who want no part of the new system.Bigger name to fans who've been around a long time, but anyone under 30 probably has no idea they once were a power in the best basketball conference during the 80's to the breakup.
Lemoyne's in Syracuse and might be a better fit?I wonder what Carmelo and his son are thinking?
You still have to live in Syracuse...![]()
Top candidates to replace Adrian Autry as Syracuse basketball's next head coach
With news breaking on Wednesday morning that SU officials will part ways with Syracuse basketball third-year head coach Adrian Autry, the chatter and speculatioinsidetheloudhouse.com
Bill Murray's net worth as of 2026 is $180 mil. Sounds like Luke and his future don't need to worry about money. What does Syracuse have to attract him. 12 Foot snow drifts? For someone like him even thinking about that job should be enough to send him into a major depression. Stay at Uconn and maybe eventually replace Dan Hurley. He should have at least 3-4 rings by that time. He's probably having the time of his life right now. There is no way to tell. He's never been a head coach. If this were ten years ago, a program like Cuse should not consider him. Now, they have fallen pretty far from being a powerhouse and it would be a good starter job for him.
Kidding aside, he is in an awkward situation where he gets paid well and has a high enough profile to be picky. However, he really doesn't have any full experience as a head coach and teams with high expectations and deep pockets are always going to think they can get someone "more proven"
