Autry out at Syracuse

They need to name a new AD before they name a new coach. Rumors of Nick Carparelli taking the job. Cheshire guy. WPI guy then Syracuse grad school

Have to let the new AD make the decision.
Wasn’t the unlamented Paul Pasqualoni a Cheshire guy?

I think Syracuse is limited to a Luke/GMac type of hire or a retread who got fired somewhere else. Similar to Sampson, Motta or even Hurley. Would Pitino JR be on the list? I would think so as an up and comer type. Is Syracuse>Marquette?
The board is all over the place. New AD is thought of as a football first guy. The board goes from Murray to Jay Wright and everyone in between. Whoever SU gets. He will need 8 to 12 new players. Ahh, the black hole of irrelevancy.

Bigger name to fans who've been around a long time, but anyone under 30 probably has no idea they once were a power in the best basketball conference during the 80's to the breakup.
That and a world class facility are advantages but money trumps all. Head coach is a crazy job. Drove icons out early, Bennett, Wight, guys who could get any job they want, are great coaches, not old men and who want no part of the new system.

I wonder what Carmelo and his son are thinking?

There is no way to tell. He's never been a head coach. If this were ten years ago, a program like Cuse should not consider him. Now, they have fallen pretty far from being a powerhouse and it would be a good starter job for him.

Kidding aside, he is in an awkward situation where he gets paid well and has a high enough profile to be picky. However, he really doesn't have any full experience as a head coach and teams with high expectations and deep pockets are always going to think they can get someone "more proven"
Bill Murray's net worth as of 2026 is $180 mil. Sounds like Luke and his future don't need to worry about money. What does Syracuse have to attract him. 12 Foot snow drifts? For someone like him even thinking about that job should be enough to send him into a major depression. Stay at Uconn and maybe eventually replace Dan Hurley. He should have at least 3-4 rings by that time. He's probably having the time of his life right now.

I'll catch some strays for this. I'd be happy to see Syracuse continue to fail, but I think you guys are underestimating the job. The ACC is a legit P5 conference that I'd slot ahead of the Big East simply because the conference pays out a lot more money. Syracuse is still considered a traditional basketball power that's fallen on some hard times and they still had a lot of fans at the Dome until they became a dumpster fire. This isn't a hard program to turn around. They may not compete for national championships annually, but there's no reason they can't be in the top quarter of the ACC regularly. Luke Murray would be crazy not to take that job if offered (I don't think it'll drop to him).

I agree. He'll make $3 million a year. (just because his dad is worth a couple hundred million doesn't mean that money is immediately trickling down to Luke.). And after Duke and Carolina and maybe Virginia there are a ton off beatable teams in the ACC. If he can bring some talent to Syracuse, he can beat up on Boston College, Pitt, Stanford, Cal, Georgia Tech, Wake Forest, VA Tech. That's a lot of low hanging fruit.

He should probably take it if he gets it, but I do think there is something to be said for happiness. If he is happy now raising his family in CT and keeping things stable for them, he doesn't need it. He makes plenty of money and is the heir to a fortune, so his decision making process might be a bit different than that of most coaches. This staff really seems to enjoy working together and winning titles. The AD has been sure to highly compensate Luke and Kimani and I think they are both well aware they have a good thing going.

I saw on the Syracuse board that Luke Murray is a coach SU is considering. I am not sure if they reached out yet. Question for those in the know, is he a great recruiter, can he motivate and develop players? I understand he built UCONN offense but he works under Hurley who seems to be the great motivator. Can Luke do all of the other parts of a head coaching job or is he best served as an asset like Chris Daley?
That's the big question but if he has aspirations of being a head coach and was holding out for a high major, it would seem hard to pass it up if he is offered the job. Hurley pays him too much for mid majors to be appealing, but I'm sure Syracuse could outbid Hurley.

Agree that the AD (and Dan Hurley) know that having an all world staff creates an environment of unity and excellence from the top down. It allows us to compete with the power conferences and allows us to "outperform". Something bigger than "me" is "we". Uconn. It lives on as a model now. Loved seeing Rip and Clingan last night at the game. Big pictures on the wall. Relentless.
