Long before Ciera Toomey began watching, Scranton Prep graduate Missy (Rose) McTiernan played on the first UConn national championship team in 1995. Two years later, she served as tri-captain on a team that was 33-0 before falling in the Elite Eight.

For the first time since, McTiernan found herself recommending a local player to Auriemma after watching Toomey play with and against her niece, Rachael Rose. Toomey and Rose, who is about to begin a Division I career at the University of South Carolina Upstate, were on opposite sides of the most anticipated local game of the 2020-21 season when Dunmore played Scranton Prep. They were also teammates at NEPA Elite.

Combining what she saw on the court with her niece’s description of Toomey as a good teammate and her brother Tim’s positive words about the Toomey family led McTiernan to reach out to Auriemma.

When she recently heard back from Auriemma, McTiernan knew the interest was growing, but she unaware last week’s scholarship offer was about to be presented.

“Of course, I’m biased,” McTiernan said. “In my mind, Ciera has no other choice.

“She’d be crazy not to take the opportunity.”

The recruiting process did not, however, end with UConn’s official entry into the race.

That step-back three is extra sweet.
For the record...whether it means nothing/a little/a lot...she has said that UConn is her
'dream school'. Not in 8th grade yet! Wonder what Dee/Sue/Paige looked like back in their olde days?
Blake, that's nice, but we all know how much kid's perspective and outlook can change once their junior and senior year rolls around. Four years from now if she's still extolling the virtues of UConn, THEN we may have something. We'll be watching...........

New PBR report from the end of July recapping the AAU circuit.

Props for Liv McGill, Joyce Edwards, and Olivia Olson.

At 47:00 they give names of players who impressed them most this summer.

Jason Key picked Kiki Rice and Olivia Olson among his three.

Shane Laflin named Rice, Olson, McGill, Ciera Toomey, and Chloe Kitts out of 13 total.
