I think many don’t care for Danny and then the program by extension. More of a reaction to the “viral clip” culture than anything. It’s easy to see him “headbutt” a ref with zero context and decide he’s a D. If people took the time to listen to his full interviews and some of the behind the scenes stuff, they’d realize he’s just a passionate guy and someone they’d probably want to sit down and have a cocktail with.

Duke is still by far public enemy #1 though and I support it.

Probably Boston College for me. Fortuitously, that will never happen.

Syracuse would be a close second.

Duke will always hurt the most because of 1990. And because it is Duke. Many reasons. If SJ were to win it all that might be 2nd place. Having to play them every year at MSG would be a tough reminder.

SJ has really owned us the last 2 years, but our phenomenal run this year when it counted gives SJ very minimal bragging rights.

We won more games in the tourney this year as they did in their 2 years of dominating us, but almost double.

Yah, you are right. And we are still their daddy.

But yeah, I had to watch the entire SJ ceremony cutting down their nets for 30+ minutes as I was with a SJ fan. That was brutal. But all good now lol.
 
Thought this summed up their fan base at this point (from their board):

UConn is now responsible for probably 3 of the top 5 most painful Duke losses in my Duke fan lifetime. I'll never hate another team like UNC, but it's a clear, solid second place for me.

1990 is our most painful loss ever, im sure that could be debated. But that near steal and buzzer beater loss still stings to this day.

As far as our wins....

2026 - of course, fresh in our memory.
2004 - 9 point lead with under 3 minutes left, blown lead
1999 - One of the greatest teams of all time had they won, massive -9.5 favorites

Houston 2025 of course will be on their list.

What are the other two? Loss to Arkansas?

I would have to think we own the 1 & 2 spots, maybe first three? They beat us in 2004 they have an easy NC.

Both good calls - still don't know if those have quite the sting that our 3 did. Duke 99 was a 10 pt fav, 2004 required a vicious comeback to a NC, then obviously this year they were on the receiving end of some craziness.

Transferring from Duke to UConn is like a major villain redemption arc. Glad the kid could see the light under that evil shroud of darkness

Actually, this was the East Regional Final. There were fewer rounds back then. Still a heart breaker, but we were way overmatched in size in spite of how good Toby Kimball was.

Imagine being a 1-seed and being heavy favorites and then dropped Calhoun's final game to an 8-seed Syracuse: only you hate them 100x more than us because they have more titles and are more historically prestigious. Those three losses to UConn were tough, but that has to be the worst.

Especially since they beat Duke at Cameron in K's final home game.

The reason so many people hate Dook is because of Dook Vitale literally kissing their asses for 30 years. Every game he did, every show he was part of, every time he even dreamed about MCBB, it was always DOOK DOOK DOOK

PS: OBVIOUSLY IT'S NOT BECAUSE THEY HAVE MORE TITLES. Because they don’t and ours are a lot more current.

Although they probably have 25 titles in November
 
Losing a regular season games is nothing compared to the tournament. Don't care the circumstances

I’ve thought since 1990 that it seemed like we would really, really like to be their most hated rival. I imagine that they think it’s an uncanny coincidence that often their heartbreak losses are against UCONN. Maybe one day they’ll stop trying to swat the fly and spend some time figuring how to exterminate it. Until then haha.
