Fishy, we aren't supposed to talk about any coaching deficiencies we see game after game and year after year.

I'd be happier if the assistant coaches recognized something and spoke up. I've never three bumps on a log pretending to be coaches.

My friend has been betting against us every single game this year and is up a TON. We have been getting generous lines because of our past success, but we are far worse than what the handicappers give us on a game by game basis. I think we're something like 9 - 15 against the spread this year.

I guess that puts it into a little more perspective. Right now our bench consists of 2 bigs and a bunch of walkons unfortunately.
 
Our bench should be able to pound ECU? Ok. Have you watched our bench or lack there of? Just because guys have a recruiting ranking and wear a Uconn jersey, it doesn't give them magical powers to beat even a crappy but fully stocked team. The whole "but we are Uconn" argument is not grounded in reality. We are a lousy team and it is not our birthright to beat even crappy teams because of what happened in the past.

Even the bookies are playing bad UConn basketball. Is it Millers confusing D's that have them messed up? Or the suits that KO wears?

Which in and of itself is an issue. Obviously you can't predict injuries but you should be able to fill a roster with scholarship players. If Noyes' scholarship went to a grad transfer or top 200 kid maybe we wouldn't be as bad off as we are.

Do you have any fans in mind? I haven't seen one fan that wants this team to do anything but win.
Some fans complain more about losses than others. Some fans look at situations differently than others. No one is settling.

You have a point. Hopefully that doesn't happen. Team is experiencing some serious bad luck. Could you imagine if we were in another conference? This team fits this conference..........for now.

It's the coaches job to build the roster. No, you cannot plan for injuries, but you can fill a roster with scholarship players and players that can win against a team with an RPI of 227.

The "we are UConn" argument is that we should be an elite level program, but if you have a few guys injured, you should still be pretty good. You don't think other top programs have that expectation?

None of this is in a vacuum, either. It's not the first bad season we've had under Ollie.

No one is being hysterical. It's just difficult for some folks to understand why other folks - both of whom share a passion for a basketball team that has been among the top 5 in the country for the better part of 20 years - now loses to teams like Wagner, Northeastern, East Carolina, etc. Teams that they would lose to once every... well nope. Didn't lose to many of those ever.

And then pretend everything's going to be fine. People are worrying about the conference and this team can't beat a team with an RPI of 227. Good lord.

That's what I probably find the most troubling. We act like it's absurd we could ever bring in a good coach again. We all love Ollie but he's not the end all be all. If he isn't the guy, other top coaches would be lining up to come here. I can understand if people think Ollie is a top coach and therefore don't ever want to look elsewhere but this idea that we can never attract a great coach again is bunk.

When great programs get too incestuous is when programs fail and flag. I'd at least like to see some shakeup on the coaching staff to bring in some outside blood. What they're doing now isn't working on any level. I'm not in burn the house down mode yet but the justification for this team's failures has gotta be out the window.

I have been baffled by the way this team has been coached for some time now, but at this point, I'm reserving judgement until I see what we look like in the postseason. The last couple games have been bizarre to the point that I question the actual desire to win them.

I don't think one person believes there is a guarantee about anything. That's life. Things can turn around next year or never. Those are the extremes. KO can be a bad coach who the APR disguised or a good coach hurt by the APR. I'm one of those who argue the latter. I can't be 100% sure I'm right and you're wrong or vice versa. I hear the complaints of people after games. I understand their concerns. I just put in my computer parameters that are different than yours. Or maybe similar parameters but come to different conclusions. None of us can see the future so it really comes down to educated guessing.

Of course it's possible that if KO doesn't work out UConn can attract a great coach. And it's possible that a coach replacing KO, should UConn need to make that choice, can make the program worse. How can anyone know things with certainty? If that were the case why hasn't Texas, a university that is far ahead of all other universities when it comes to athletic resources, struggle as much as it does?
