AP Top 25

It's really ridiculous that Arkansas is still ranked and South Dakota isn't.

(Of course, watch SD lose to Missouri State just as I say that.)

The problem with early team rankings is that perception is hard to shake. Teams that are initially ranked high are at an advantage if they lose a game. Voters tend to drop ranked teams more slowly than they will raise unranked team upward. Arizona should have been ranked instead of Arizona St. Had they been they would not have had to work themselves up as they are doing now even at 6-0. Perception often trumps reality.

There would be no shame to SD if they lost to a very good Missouri State team.

The AP Poll is my least favorite of the group of polls. I think the coaches poll is better. I think the Boneyard Poll is even better.

I just ponied up for ESPN+ so I can watch this game today. Also plan on watching the MSU vs Marquette game.

Drake, Missouri State, Gonzaga, and South Dakota should all be ranked before Arkansas, Tennessee, and others. You might even argue for Western Kentucky.

Can I vote in the Boneyard poll?

Too bad you weren't around a few weeks ago...... we could have worked out a deal to get Duke more than 1 vote in the preseason poll.

Too bad I couldn't remember my password!

Sadly a Arkansas Pine Bluff player was shot and killed last night. Here is a pst game quote from tonight's game from the head coach Dawn Brown.
On what it means to her on getting support from the Lady Vols and Vol Nation:
"Last night, we made a phone call to Chris Walker, UT's chaplain. I think I talked to him about 8:54 last night. About 9:35, him and at least 15 other people came out to pray with our young ladies. I told them, 'I don't know if we could have been at a better place to get news like this.' To have people around us that felt like family, just for them to be covering us in prayers and standing with us. And not only last night, this morning they got up and brought us breakfast. That meant a lot. Just the fact that we are so far away from home, it's not like you can just get on the bus and try to go back to be there with the family. So for us, it meant a lot.

And for us to get those cards, it is a really special place. I think that the legacy and foundation that has been laid here just speaks volumes for this program. To have those type of people to continue to grow and to be a part of what you have established here, it just speaks volumes for the type of people that stand to represent Tennessee. Chris checked on us right before the game and all throughout the day. They have also somebody from international studies that reached out to her mom and her grandma. It has been a loving environment from the entire Knoxville family. I guess you guys have Vol Nation. They have reached out to us. It has just been amazing. We have embraced it, and we are thankful for it. I don't think we could have been in a better place to get that type of news with the people that have shared their condolences with us in the last 24 hours."

Not saying LSU is a great team but no clue how quite a few teams are ahead of us. What exactly has Arkansas, Tennessee, and Michigan State done?

Obviously results don’t matter it seems

Whoa, whoa! Don't get greedy now. Just read what you've written here over the past year for your answer....

Wonder if the loss of Cox is main reason voters dropped Baylor to 7th...or is it because of their cupcakes they ate before leaving for tourney?

.-.
Seems strange that Baylor drops 5 spots when they were playing without their most important piece in Cox, while Oregon only drops 2 spots after losing to a lower ranked opponent than Baylor....Baylor actually dropped to below the rank of the team who beat them. Meanwhile South Carolina beat the #2 team, but dropped a spot.
Things that make you go hmm.

UConn is in an Oregon sandwich. Ewww.

SC lost to Indiana by 14 a couple days before beating a short-handed #2 Baylor.

This was a very rough poll to select. Things probably will settle down in a couple of weeks.
