AP Top 25 Week 18: UCLA with 3 #1 votes

I would also rank UConn #1, but I don't get why everyone hates on Close. Yes, UCLA looked BAD in last year's final four, but UConn also dominated SC in the title game (yes, not as bad, but no one was beating UConn last year). UCLA also beat UConn pretty handedly the previous year in the Cayman Islands, so it's not like Close can't win big games.

I think for last year's UCLA team, it was their first ever final four and then felt like the big hurdle to get over (that plus UConn being a bad matchup for them and also playing like crap).

I'm not convinced UCLA has fixed the issues that hurt them last year against UConn, but they basically only play seniors (beyond Little Betts), they pass the ball really well, and everyone can shoot. To beat the Huskies, they will need to be hot from 3, limit turnovers, win the rebounding battle, and hope UConn has an off shooting night.

Tony, UCLA has a far more difficult schedule. They are 18-1 in Quad 1 (the best teams) wins and their record is 31-1 overall while UConn is 8-0, 33-0. UConn is #1 in the NET because it’s undefeated. Lose one game and the Huskies fall back to the pack

BTW, South Carolina is 12-3 in Quad 1 wins and Texas is 14-3.
Interesting that UCLA’s only loss was to Texas back in November.

Not to quibble too much but I’m not certain I would really consider Mohegan Sun a true neutral site.
I'm not sure there are many (or any) true neutral sites in the BE for UConn. Every game I've been to in the BE there's almost always a majority of UConn fans in the seats. The main difference at Gampel is that the student section will be packed there.

UCLA is a really good team but Why now give UCLA 3 1st place votes. They didnt over the past few weeks. I dont like it. What are they trying to do.

A poll is an opinion. Their opinion on the top team changed. In the same way that their opinion on teams 4-25 changed most weeks.

.-.

Exactly. Nothing has changed over the past 6 weeks between UConn and UCLA, a period during which the Huskies got all 31 votes. So why all of a sudden do 3 clowns decide to vote for UCLA?

Yes, but usually something happens to change that opinion: a Big win, a bad loss, something. IMO, as well as Tonyc’s, nothing happened to warrant that change of opinion.

In the grand scheme of things, those 3 votes will have no impact on the Selection Committee’s seeding decisions. But the vote changes were curious to say the least.
