AP Poll Week #13

We beat Creighton on the road and that is a great victory, even though they kind of suck this year. Michigan beat TWO Top ten teams BACK TO BACK. So let's role play here: if Michigan was 2 and beat up on, lets' say, Northwestern, and we, as #3 beat Michigan State and Nebraska on consecutive weeks and stayed behind Michigan, we would be losing our collective brains over the "lack of respect". And by the way, that's exactly who they beat!!!!
What if Michigan's only loss was to #1 Arizona while our loss was to Seton Hall?

Which schools had high ranked portal classes other than StJ?

This list doesn't have much BE on it.

I repeat - no way the BE is turning anything around if it doesn't bring talent in, especially when more is going out. We lost Conwell and Swain.

We might be spending, but we sure aren't getting the best of them. Super thin on top 50 in HS this year (1 top 50 kid other than us) not sure a lot is rolling back if PC kids take off. StJ is going to be losing their top 3 kids due to graduation. The most exciting team going into next year due to talent is likely punting their coach and losing those kid.

The trend is not looking good and it hasn't looked good. Maybe we crush it in the portal this upcoming cycle, but there is absolutely nothing suggesting that is happening. If you ask me, the BE is in the middle of a chronic nosedive. Nova may help pick up some slack with Wllard there.
St. John's #1, Creighton #12, Georgetown #31, UConn #32, Providence #33, Xavier #38.

You need talent to be good at basketball? No way, I've never heard that before.

You're lamenting that a Big East school that's 2-9 in conference and 9-13 overall is going to fire their coach at the end of the season.

I’m lamenting the BE has a chronic talent shortage that isn’t going away. The one BE team with some young talent to return is going kerplewee.

I’d expect the BE to suck next year too. Was almost easy to see this year coming.

Wisky also tied for 5th in the B10 at 8-3. Not a great loss, but not a terrible team.
Same people who criticize UConn for scraping by Villanova might mention that Nova beat Wisconsin.

Again, you're lamenting a coach getting fired and a team with a 2-9 record in conference 9-13 overall not coming back together next season.

In Wisconsin - sadly may be the best OOC win non UConn. That or Butler over UVa neutral.

I'm lamenting that there is little else interesting in the entire league coming back next year. PC has a few kids that are good, and fun to watch. Acadien Lewis perhaps, Nigel J at Marquette, maybe McAndrew.

How many signature NBA players do you see in this league right now? How many do you see next year?

But this league normally did well with teams that stuck together and we ended up playing a bunch of 24 year olds, and not with future NBA players. NIL has changed that now and those old guys move on to play elsewhere.

We had those guys, the last of them left last year. My whole point is the BE isn't recruiting well at the HS, or portal, all that well. We have no stars, NBA talent coming through (other than us). I don't know how that changes.

Meanwhile you tune in for any of the top 6 top Big12 teams and you're seeing future lottery picks & first rounders play each other.

It's an ambiguous thread title.
"Week 13 AP Poll" would clear that up. Even just eliminating the # symbol would help.
This stupidity is entirely on me, not Hooperscooper, the OP ... his thread title is fine. My son texted me that we had surprisingly dropped in the polls, so I logged onto the BY, and what leapt out at me was the AP Poll #13. WTF?!? Obviously, as soon as I clicked the link, a second later, the WTF moment ended.

My stupidity seemed funny to me, in part because I kept imagining the BY meltdown had we actually been knocked from #2 to #13.

They don’t need to lottery picks and the flashiest 5 star recruits, they really need a baseline of talent with guys that will stay around and transfers to fill in the gaps. The former is what worries me now. If the 5 star drought does worry you, Nova’s recruiting should spike back up next year.

PC and Creighton have talented rosters on paper but either have poor coaching or just whiffed in hindsight. There is an obvious ceiling to recruiting at Seton Hall, but they’re good enough to be a Quad 1 road game and they’re coached well.

They don’t need lottery picks, they need competent players
You say that - but then look across the best teams in the sport. Most of these teams have guys NBA talent.

I don't see the confusion but I guess some do. I like to lead with "AP Poll" instead of the week. Maybe next time "AP Poll - Week 13". How's that work?
I apologize HooperScooper ...
This is entirely my stupidity ... I misread the title thread as two ideas instead of one ...
Curse the homonym week and weak, and my previously undiagnosed dyslexia

... I glance-read the title of the thread as “AP Poll Weak” ...
“of course the AP poll is weak, it always is” ... I thought
... #13 ... WTF?!?

My post was only meant to be humorous.

But also to pass along the optimistic thought ... quoting the final line of my post, "Michigan deserves number two at this point ... looking forward to a head-to-head matchup ... as well as the rematch against U of A"
... yet another incredible season, we are so spoiled ... past, present, and future

The Big East has no juice. There seem to be a T25 v T25 matchup every night between either the Big 10, Big 12, or SEC. The Big East has had ONE single T25 vs T25 matchup. It's February.
League is terribly mismanaged by you know who. NBE would devolve into the Patriot League but for UConn. Getting 3 teams in per year is pretty sad.

The BE as it stands has three things going for it. UConn, Pitino/Repole & Nova. The rest of the league is the A10 on steroids, especially once McDermott retires. Shaka is now pulling a Texas.

In the last draft, only Duke had a prominent roster of NBA-level talent. Even for Auburn, only one guy got drafted and in the 2nd round at that. Talent matters, I just think the need for NBA talent is overstated when we just need the Big East teams to be good enough overall.

Besides, guys just appear on board prospects sometimes. Nobody was seriously looking at Keaton Wagler until the season began.

These takes are so tiring. Is no one able to look at the conference situation with any nuance?

That season isn't happening again - was the year of the old players, last COVID year. Auburn may have had the all time oldest college team of all time. It was the same reason the BE had some starpower left.

Having high end talent matters. Sure, someone may find the next Keaton Wagler, but your chances of landing difference making talent usually starts with recruiting in the top 50 or so. Shaka is always sniffing around in the 75-150 range, but he's been missing more than he's been winning lately.

The all time of all time!

Don't ever change

Check in with me next year and the year after for a couple I told you so'.

Or, give me one good reason to think the BE is on the up & up and this is an outlier year.

The same reason the Big East has been good for the last decade. They have a bunch of schools who are financially committed to basketball and bringing in elite recruiting classes. Just because the classes they brought in this year underwhelmed doesn't mean they're gonna give up and stop trying to build good teams

.-.
Well shakeups elsewhere will happen this month.

From 2/7 to 2/23 Houston plays @BYU, @Iowa St, vs Arizona, @Kansas. Gauntlet!

Michigan 2/17 to 2/27 plays @Purdue, vs Duke, @Illinois.

Duke @ UNC 2/7 but outside neutral Michigan game all home vs Clemson, UVA then UNC

Arizona has 6 games remaining vs top 16 B12 foes.
