AP Poll: UConn drops out

Who cares?

You show up to a big game at home against a decent team and play as bad as we did you can't complain.

Who cares? I'd be more concerned with things like if Memphis got a higher seed next month in the tourney. These polls mean squat. We are #26 instead of being 24. .

I'll never understand people who respond "Who cares?" You took the time to care.

Polls matter. They matter for visibility. For one, your games are listed on ESPN's front page scoreboard.

Secondly, UConn is on CBS this weekend. Unranked. It matters for visibility, and anyone who doesn't understand that shouldn't be posting in a thread about polls.

I think the biggest problem with the top 25 right now doesn't have to do with us. How is Villanova 8 and Creighton 9, when Creighton dropped 101 and 96 in two wins over Nova this year?

When it comes to other teams in the poll, what happened prior to their losses is taken into account. There are 7 loss teams in there. Teams lose and drop 1 or 2 spots based on their earlier work. It's not only that UConn beat Memphis twice. It's that UConn has better OOC wins as well.
Uconn has wins over #17 Memphis, #20 Memphis, and #15 Florida. Memphis has wins over #5 Oklahoma State, #12 Louisville, and #25 Gonzaga. Then both teams have their fair share of scrub wins. I'd say Memphis being ranked slightly ahead is correct..

That's too bad.

If we wanted to be ranked, we should have done what every other good team has done this year.

Beaten SMU at home.

Florida is #1 in the nation.

Oklahoma State and Gonzaga are not even ranked.

You could say similar stuff about every single team. Why didn't Memphis beat UConn at home?

I think you are vastly overrating the visibility aspect of this.

It's at the time of play. That's how it works...

What does this even mean?

Everyone knows Florida is #1 and has two losses this year. One to UConn and one to Wisconsin. Absolutely no one remembers what Florida's rank was when UConn played them. No one.

The top 25 get play.

The games are featured in ads. The scores are listed on the first page. Sportscenter actually reports on their games.

Florida was ranked 15th. And we were 12. So technically, it would have been an upset if we lost at home.

Right, because UConn is a better team than Florida.
In December yes. Now? We would lose by 10-15 even at home. Florida has improved greatly over the course of the year. They learned from their losses and adjusted. We have not.

This is the most whiny, pissy board I can possibly imagine. A loss and everyone rushes to downgrade every single thing to do with the program. Even the win over Florida is now meaningless.

My god.

Shabazz Napier sucks, by the way. Remember that one?

Uh, there is only one guy on the board getting whiny and pissy about being ranked #26.

I in no way downgraded the program or downgraded the Florida win. I'm being realistic.

Our board is a nuclear wasteland after L's

St. Louis and Wichita State would get lit up by UConn? C'mon, let's at least try to be a little objective here. Both of those teams are very similar to SMU, whom we've lost to twice. I'm not saying we couldn't win those games, but to say they would get "lit up by UConn" is just being a homer.

WSU also got to the final four last year, with a team that isn't as good as this one. Experience is very undervalued in the college game. Yes, they have close games...and won them all. They also have to keep focus against that weaker schedule, that doesn't mean they can't raise their game when needed.

Whiny and pissy is dominating the board. Every backward argument you can imagine. Just reactionary knee-jerk junk. Put Memphis up against UConn and then make a case. At least that would be substantive.

Do you drop Memphis because UConn lost?

The polls are done on a week to week basis, it is not hard to understand why they are ranked ahead of us

There aren't many things I care less about than polls. I care a lot more about UConn showing consistent, legitimate improvement in February, and that hasn't really happened yet.

That's a lot more worrisome than the order in which a bunch of lazy journalists rate teams.

You look at the body of work. Lots of teams lose and don't move much for precisely these reasons. This is why there are 7 loss teams in the top 25.

Memphis is actually a good example. They dropped 2 slots last week. As did Ohio State after a loss on home court. If you look at the polls, it happens regularly that a team goes 1-1 and drops a slot or two. Heck, 7-loss Iowa lost at home to Ohio st. 2 weeks ago, and they moved UP!

Not to worry we'll be back in soon enough. We are getting back to the dance. If we do reasonably well, I'll be satisfied with season. I wish we had better supporting players for Bazz though.
