No love for Marquette and Gonzaga? Serious mistake.

I mean they're ranked either 13 or 14 in either poll, so they are not being ignored. Good argument for Zags to be ranked higher--their two best wins are Stanford and Rutgers, and only loss to #1 ND. Their RPI is #11 and MAssey is #10.

Just who exactly was supposed to be moved ahead of them?

Well that's the rub. I just didn't expect them to move up in the polls based on the week they've had. Stanford has had some trouble winning in Tempe recently, it's not like you could automatically chalk that up as a W.

Everyone below Gonzaga keeps losing, but not many teams ahead of them have dropped games recently. Oregon and Stanford have been stuck in the same spot for several weeks, they can't seem to move up even when someone ahead of them does lose. Top 4 has been reshuffling but stays the same 4 teams.

Massey does not agree. ND is number one, followed by Baylor and UConn. Given the way UConn has played since the ND game, that seems to make perfect sense.

That's not the way pollsters evaluate teams for ranking. Historically they don't pay much attention to the quality of wins or poor losses from week to week.

If going into the week ND was ranked number 1 and UConn 2, and during the week ND had one point wins against Cupcake University and The University of Never Won A Game, and, UConn had beaten each of the 3rd. 4rth and 5th ranked teams by 50 points....ND would still end the week ranked above them.

Its just the way it is with AP and Coaches Polls.

Which explains why Notre Dame has been ranked as the #1 team in the country for 89 of the past 94 weeks. And why UConn never gets a chance to be ranked 1st.

Oh, but wait. UConn has been ranked 1st almost continuously the past 5 seasons. How did that happen? Maybe because the system works and UConn deserved their ranking. Isn't it possible that they do not deserve the #1 ranking at this point in the present season? Seems like a more parsimonious explanation than some conspiracy theory.

You might consider a class in reading comprehension.

I never said or intimated UConn should be ranked number 1.

I never said the system doesn't work...Its entertainment...and through that lens the system works well. Seeding, on the other hand, which partly reflects the polls, is a more accurate reflection of "best"...but that only happens once a year.

What conspiracy?

And...you might want to look up the definition of parsimonious.

Only Notre Dame should be number 1 in all sports all the time. They do no wrong. They play the hardest schedule. They attend church daily. They help old ladies across the street. It does not matter that UConn beat them up in South Bend. The temporary ranking of UConn at number 1 was obviously an error that has now been corrected.
